The pioneer behind the sport of professional bull riding, Tuff Hedeman, is returning to Las Vegas, and to the South Point Arena and Equestrian Center, on Saturday, March 3 with his signature event, newly titled the “Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding Tour.” Top ranked bull riders and bulls will compete for one night only as four-time World Champion and Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer, Tuff Hedeman, lines up the roster of World Champions and Wrangler National Finals Rodeo athletes to compete for the championship title.

“I have either been competing or producing bull riding events for Las Vegas and rodeo fans for over 25 years, and I look forward every year to providing the community with a top-rated bull riding competition and some great entertainment,” said Tuff Hedeman. “It is amazing to see Las Vegas being recognized as the sports destination that we have always known it to be, and it’s an honor to bring our event back in March alongside NASCAR, USA Sevens Rugby, Vegas Golden Knights and UFC. It will be an amazing sport filled weekend.”

The Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding Las Vegas event is the highlight of the industry that pits man verses bull in a two-hour long bull riding competition that promises to captivate and entertain fans. Throughout the event, 24 bull riders and 40 bulls will compete in a three-round tournament-style sudden death format that keeps fans on the edge of their seat as their favorite riders challenge up to three bulls in one performance. The event concludes in a final four man round where the competitor must ride to win the lion’s share of the prize money. Las Vegas will be the third stop on the Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding Tour in 2018. The competition in Las Vegas follows previous events held in Hobbs, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas where bull riders earned points towards a World Finals bonus and World title.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the competition will get underway at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at www.tuffhedemanbullriding.com. Follow Tuff Hedeman on Facebook and Instagram @TuffHedemanOfficial. Schedule, roster of competitors and appearances will be released at a later date.

DETAILS: For the seventh consecutive year, USA Sevens Rugby partners with Clark County School District (CCSD) to bring the HSBC USA Sevens Adopt A Country Program to Clark County schools. The program, which has seen a considerable increase in participation following the success of rugby sevens in the Rio Olympics, kicks off Thursday evening with an introduction for new teachers and a refresher for returning teachers.

Trainers will teach the Rookie Rugby flag rugby curriculum, instructing teachers on rugby skills, match rules, player safety and coaching techniques to implement into their physical education curriculum and after school flag rugby programs. In addition to physical drills, instructors will share best practices for coaching and how to encourage students to have fun and play safely.

Throughout the evening, program instructors, teachers, coaches and staff will incorporate World Rugby’s five core values into the curriculum: Integrity, Passion, Solidarity, Discipline and Respect.

Each participating CCSD school is paired with one nation competing in the 2017 USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament, March 3 – 5, at Sam Boyd Stadium. The schools will incorporate their adopted countries into the classroom curriculum to promote ambassadorship, bringing international cultures, traditions, customs and languages to life. In the months leading up to the tournament, students will learn about their adopted nations through interactive lesson plans, including geography, history, language, art and physical education.

The premier rugby tournament in North America, USA Sevens brings the best rugby players in the world, representing 16 nations, to Las Vegas to compete in 44 matches during the three-day tournament.

USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament Returns
to Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas with Exhilarating Matchups
and an International Extravaganza

Tickets now on sale for North America’s premier rugby event
Jan. 24-26, 2014

Following a hugely successful 2013 tournament, USA Sevens Rugby is set to once again invade Las Vegas with tens of thousands of international fans and nonstop professional sports action during North America’s premier rugby tournament at Sam Boyd Stadium Jan. 24-26, 2014.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2014 USA Sevens Rugby tournament, which has seen attendance growth of nearly 100 percent since the event moved to Las Vegas in 2010. As the tournament prepares for its fifth consecutive year at Sam Boyd Stadium, fans will have the opportunity to see 16 of the top international rugby sevens teams play 45 matches over three days as teams attempt to gain points in the 2013-2014 HSBC Sevens World Series standings. Rugby sevens offers a fast-paced, thrilling variation on traditional rugby with two seven-player teams battling in 14-minute matches where the action never stops.

“The USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament is one of the most unique sporting events in the United States, and we are dedicated to driving the continued growth and popularity of rugby,” said Jonathan First, president of United World Sports. “Without the support of NBC Sports and Las Vegas Events, this event would not be where it is today, and we are extremely grateful to continue working with these leaders in their respective fields.”

The event’s signature high-energy atmosphere will once again be brought to life with a fusion of international culture and pride, live entertainment and costumed fans at the USA Sevens International Fan Festival. In addition to fueling the tournament’s energy, the Fan Festival will also feature family-friendly activities such as live musical performances, international cuisine and rugby clinics for children. Located just outside of Sam Boyd Stadium, ticket holders will be free to move back-and-forth from the festival to the games inside the stadium during the three-day tournament.

“The definitive rugby experience is ultimately about crowd engagement,” said Dan Lyle, USA Sevens tournament director. “The players will guarantee explosive action on the field, and our goal is to encourage our fans to wear their favorite and most outrageous costumes while cheering on their teams throughout all three days of the tournament to provide an electrifying atmosphere rivaling any in North American sports.”

USA Sevens also presents the only opportunity for U.S. fans to see future rugby sevens Olympians in person as the players prepare for the 2016 summer games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

International teams competing in the 2014 USA Sevens tournament tentatively include: Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Kenya, New Zealand, Portugal, Samoa, Scotland, Spain, Uruguay, United States and Wales.

The Monte Carlo Resort and Casino has been named the 2014 Official Team Hotel and will serve as host to the professional players and thousands of fans from around the world. In addition, Monte Carlo and other MGM properties, including Aria, Luxor and Excalibur, will feature a series of rugby-themed events throughout the tournament week beginning Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014.

Rugby fans can take advantage of several pricing options for the 2014 tournament, starting at $35 for one-day tickets. Fans are encouraged to buy before Dec. 1, 2013 to take advantage of discounts as high as 33 percent off full-priced tickets. Full-price ticket pricing options include:

  • Field Level: $35 for Friday, $64 for Saturday or Sunday, $127 for Saturday and Sunday, and $154 for a three-day package

This weekend’s record-breaking attendance figures prove that vision has become a reality.”

That’s exactly what we delivered. The atmosphere was unbeatable throughout the weekend, and the passion each nation’s fans showed for their teams proved that rugby crowds are some of the best in sports today. Once someone attends a USA Sevens rugby event, they truly become a fan for life.”

About Rí Rá Las Vegas

Crafted in the warm pub style of 19th century Ireland, Rí Rá Las Vegas is located inside The Shoppes at Mandalay Place. The authentic Irish pub features a multitude of artifacts that were carefully restored in Wicklow, Ireland and shipped to their new home in Las Vegas. Rí Rá Las Vegas contains an authentic Victorian Shop bar that began its life in Ireland in the 1880s, a whiskey bar adorned with an original glazed jewelry cabinet from 1900, an oak floor from a whiskey distillery and an 8-foot-tall, 500-pound carved plaster statue of St. Patrick dating back to 1850. The pub hosts live entertainment seven nights a week in a music room constructed with artifacts dating back to 1890 from the Olympia Theater in Dublin, Ireland. On the weekends, guests can kick back at Rí Rá Live, where every Friday and Saturday at 9:30 p.m. the best bands in town take the pub’s stage. Born and raised in Dublin, Rí Rá Las Vegas owners David Kelly and Ciaran Sheehan have been close friends since they were 14-years-old. Kelly and Sheehan later partnered with Jay Luther, whom Kelly met while working for Guinness. Rí Rá Las Vegas is the 12th pub the trio has opened in the U.S.

USA Sevens Rugby Teams with Clark County School District for Adopt-a-Country Program for Second Consecutive Year
Sixteen CCSD schools will be paired with countries competing in USA Sevens

For the second consecutive year, USA Sevens Rugby is teaming with Clark County School District (CCSD) for the Adopt-a-Country program in which sixteen schools around the Las Vegas Valley are matched with a nation competing in the USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament Feb. 10-12 at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Students will study their school’s adopted nation in the weeks leading up to the tournament, learning about that country’s geography, culture and people. A variety of additional events will accompany the Adopt-a-Country program, including T-shirt design and critical thinking essay competitions.

“We were thrilled with the success of the Adopt-a-Country program during last year’s USA Sevens,” said Dan Lyle, USA Sevens Tournament Director.  “Each participating school showed great enthusiasm for all aspects of the program, and the students’ desire to learn about international cultures was inspiring for our management team.”

“There was no debate on whether to continue this partnership with CCSD,” continued Lyle.  “We look forward to seeing the great results from the 2012 Adopt-a-Country program. After conversations with some of the players, we aren’t sure who’s more excited – the players or the students.”

The program provides Las Vegas students with the chance to participate in creative, hands-on activities while learning about international geography, world cultures and the newest Olympic sport, Rugby Sevens.  Students will have the opportunity to meet players from their chosen country’s team during onsite pep-rallies the week of the USA Sevens Tournament, participate in youth rugby clinics directed by certified USA Rugby instructors and attend the tournament on Saturday, Feb. 11 as a class field trip.

Students will also have the chance to participate in the student T-shirt contest and critical thinking essay competition as a part of the program.  The T-shirt contest challenges children to design a shirt that captures the essence and culture of their competing nation.  Each school will select one T-shirt design to represent their entire student body against the 15 other participating schools. An overall winner of the T-shirt contest will be selected by a panel of judges.  USA Sevens will produce 200 T-shirts with the winning design and distribute to the winning school.

For the essay contest, students are asked to compare and contrast their nation with Clark County.  Each school will determine their own timeline for submission, word minimums and maximums and a contest winner. The essay winner from each school will represent their adopted nation and class in the 2012 USA Sevens Opening Ceremony, taking placed on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. on Fremont Street.

“We had a great time partnering with USA Sevens Rugby to bring our students the Adopt-a-Country program last year, and the teachers’ and students’ enthusiasm for the program’s return was very high this year,” said Judy Myers of the Clark County School District School-Community Partnership Program.  “It’s an enriching program benefitting both the students and the event.”
