Monte Carlo Resort & Casino has completed a multi-million-dollar reinvention of its Strip-facing facade, debuting a lively open-air plaza with six unique dining concepts, vibrant community spaces and dynamic live entertainment.

Monte Carlo’s new plaza delivers a cool, high-energy atmosphere making it the ideal setting to enjoy Vegas’ sultry summer nights. The destination includes Diablo’s Cantina, a festive, two-story Mexican restaurant from leading development and management company The Light Group, and introduces five indoor-outdoor restaurants new to The Strip: Yusho, featuring inventive Japanese-inspired street food by celebrated chef Matthias Merges; Double Barrel, the first authentic roadhouse from renowned hospitality group sbe; 800 Degrees, a pizzeria from the California-based restaurateurs behind Umami Burger; BLVD Creamery, a contemporary ice cream shop with innovative flavors and unexpected dessert offerings; and Sambalatte, a Vegas-grown premium coffee experience.

An experiential social gathering place, Monte Carlo’s new plaza offers:

  • Live entertainment: A rotating roster of live bands of all genres, solo musicians, artists and street performers take over the plaza daily. From 3 p.m. until late night, guests will be surprised and delighted by the skilled entertainers that complete the upbeat, interactive setting.

  • Yusho Japanese Grill & Noodle House: Renowned Chicago chef Matthias Merges brings his imaginative take on Japanese street food to Las Vegas with Yusho. Merges’ cuisine showcases varieties of steamed buns, unique ramens, house-made pickles, fresh meats and surprising desserts. Signature menu items include the Logan Poser Ramen, made with crispy pork, egg, nori and cucumber; as well as 2X Fried Chicken, created with spicy kanzuri, green tea and lime zest. Yusho’s innovative beverage program features six cocktails on tap as well as an immense selection of Japanese craft beers and road-ready sakes.

  • Double Barrel Roadhouse: This high-energy entertainment and dining venue complements an array of craft cocktails, frozen libations and beers with its creative Southern-inspired menu. Roadhouse Sliders, BBQ Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and Deep Fried S’Mores are just some of early the favorites. The 12,000-square-foot, indoor-outdoor space, envisioned by award-winning designer Mark Zeff, welcomes visitors with live performances by the lively “DB girls” on the elevated catwalks surrounding the bars.
  • 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria: From the masterminds behind Los Angeles’ Umami Burger, 800 Degrees offers guests the experience of creating their ultimate, gourmet personal pizzas baked at lightning speed. After selecting a sauce and toppings from an assortment of vegetables, meats, cheeses and spices, the Neapolitan pizza is baked in an 800-degree wood-burning oven. For those who prefer a chef’s recommendation, specialty pizzas and side dishes include the Bianca, Sausage & Peppers, Tartufo and Marinara pizzas along with small bites such as Meatballs, Truffle Cheese Bread and Antipasti. The 3,000-square-foot indoor dining room and 1,000-square-foot outdoor patio seat approximately 120 pizza lovers.

  • BLVD Creamery: Childhood favorites and cutting-edge flavors come together at this vibrant ice cream shop that features organic ice creams along with sorbets, cereal-flavored milks and other dessert novelties including flavors such as watermelon-jalapeno, avocado and pinot noir. Monte Carlo’s skilled pastry team churns each creation to silky smooth perfection daily, ensuring each treat is fresh and delicious. Pops of pastel colors set against bright white walls and an upbeat soundtrack of indie alternative and post-punk new wave tunes welcome guests of all ages into a whimsical world of sweet treats.

  • Sambalatte Coffee Lounge & Espresso Bar: This Las Vegas-based, award-winning coffee shop exclusively features a Coffee Bean Roaster and a state-of-the-art coffee lab, providing “The Theatre of Coffee,” where guests can watch the experts as they undergo the roasting process. Of course, no entertainment experience would be complete without a beverage in hand, so guests may indulge in signature house blends or creative creations, such as the Nutella Latte, while they watch live entertainment on Sambalatte’s outdoor patio. The venue also serves tea, sandwiches, muffins, scones, cookies, pastries and more.

Monte Carlo’s plaza is the first completed element of an interactive neighborhood in development by MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM). In addition to the plaza, the indoor-outdoor district includes an energetic patio culture at New York-New York and The Park, a highly social dining and entertainment space leading up to a 20,000-seat world-class Las Vegas arena by MGM Resorts and AEG. The Park and arena will be completed in spring 2016. The project draws inspiration from historic promenades and squares while focusing on creating unique memories for today’s spontaneous, experience-driven guests.

BLVD CREAMERY CHURNS CUSTOM ICE CREAM
AND CONTEMPORARY COLD TREATS AT MONTE CARLO

Coolest Cone Dealer in Las Vegas Now Open

Creamy slow-churned ice cream and trendy treats blend together to create a sweetly indulgent experience at BLVD Creamery, the contemporary ice cream shop now open at Monte Carlo Resort and Casino. Pops of vibrant pastel colors set against bright white walls and an upbeat soundtrack of indie alternative and post-punk new wave tunes welcome guests of all ages into a dreamy world of imaginative ice cream flavors, sundaes, popsicles, shakes, flavored milks, floats and ice cream sandwiches. Monte Carlo’s skilled pastry team flavors and churns each creation to silky smooth perfection daily, but cows deserve some of the credit too. Every delectable treat is made from all-natural milk and cream.

Twenty-four ice cream and sorbet flavors from a rotating roster of quirky combinations are available each day. Guests can stick with traditional vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, of course, or excite their taste buds with flavors such as #WTJ, watermelon sorbet infused with jalapeño; Suds Sorbet, made with Shock Top beer; or B.T.A., ice cream created with avocado, oven-roasted tomatoes and bacon. Ice cream sandwiches may be made to order and catered to each guest’s preference whether they enjoy their ice cream sandwiched between cookies, waffles, brownies or donuts. Cereal flavored milks (Cocoa Puffs anyone?) get straight to the point giving guests what they’ve wished for since childhood: sweet flavored milk without the formality of eating an entire bowl of cereal. These are just a few of the unexpected delights that lace the menu at this lively creamery.

“BLVD Creamery offers inventive ice cream and sorbet flavor combinations along with attention-grabbing desserts that will appeal to a wide variety of guests,” said Monte Carlo General Manager Patrick Miller. “I only hope that our guests have as much fun savoring these treats as we did dreaming them up.”

BLVD Creamery is the final venue to open as part of the major transformation that took place at the resort. The entire front facade has been recreated into a gathering place where visitors can take in the city’s robust sights, sounds and flavors. In addition to BLVD Creamery, the new plaza features Yusho, a Japanese-inspired grill and noodle house; Double Barrel, a casual roadhouse restaurant and bar concept by leading hospitality experts at sbe; Sambalatte, the ultimate coffee experience; and 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria, serving build-your-own personal pizzas in an 800-degree wood-burning oven.

BLVD Creamery is open 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Retail items are available for purchase for those wishing to commemorate their cool experience.

Chicago Hotspot Yusho to make Las Vegas Debut at Monte Carlo

MONTE CARLO RESORT AND CASINOUSHO

CHICAGO HOTSPOT YUSHO TO MAKE
LAS VEGAS DEBUT AT MONTE CARLO

Restaurant to Feature Japanese-Inspired Street Food in a Fun and Approachable Setting

Yusho, the Japanese-inspired grill and noodle house by renowned Chicago chef Matthias Merges will make its Las Vegas debut at Monte Carlo in April 2014.

The approachable menu will include varieties of fresh seafood, poultry, meats and vegetables, cooked-to-order over a chattering fire, along with house-made pickled vegetables, noodles and steamed buns. The high-energy venue will offer guests a variety of social experiences positioned right in the heart of The Strip.

Visitors can choose which scene they want to focus on at Yusho – the prime location for people watching on the outdoor patio, panoramic views of the open kitchen as chefs create delicious dishes or comfortable seats at the bar as skillful bartenders serve handcrafted cocktails, Japanese beers or a refreshing sake selection. Whichever they select, the Yusho experience will be unlike any other on the Las Vegas Strip.

The restaurant is part of a major transformation taking place at the resort as the entire front facade is recreated into a gathering place where visitors can take in the city’s robust sights, sounds and flavors. In addition to Yusho, the new plaza will feature a variety of casual restaurants, bars and eateries all opening this spring.

Yusho’s playful 250-seat venue, designed by Rachel Crowl of FC Studio, was inspired by vintage industrial spaces, anime and Japanese ramen shacks making it a vibrant setting suited for any outing. Tables strategically placed around the exposed kitchen area will provide guests a front row seat to the culinary action while cozy corners throughout the main dining room are available for those that desire a more intimate dining experience. Yusho will be open daily for dinner.

“Yusho exemplifies the energy we will bring to the new venues at the front of Monte Carlo,” said Monte Carlo General Manager Patrick Miller. “Unexpected yet flavorful combinations in each dish at Yusho, paired with an electric restaurant atmosphere that delivers great food and drinks will make Yusho a dining destination for visitors from around the world.”

Chef Merges added, “My travels throughout Japan, Singapore and mainland China inspired me to create a concept that expresses my personal interpretation of traditional Japanese cuisine. I am delighted to introduce Yusho to the Las Vegas market and I believe the restaurant will fit in seamlessly with the culinary experiences in development at Monte Carlo as well as appeal to guests and tourists from all over the world that visit the city.”

Merges first gained national recognition for his work at Chicago’s Charlie Trotter’s, a AAA Five Diamond Award-winning restaurant. During Merges’ tenure, the restaurant was a recipient of 11 James Beard Association awards. FOOD & WINE magazine named the Chicago outpost of Yusho among its “Best Restaurants” for 2012 and Eater National acknowledged the Las Vegas location as one of the “Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings of 2014.”

Menu

The menu is broken down into five categories: Pickles and Relish, Noodles, Grilled + Fried, Steam Buns and Sweets each offering delicious selections sure to satisfy a variety of palates. Items include:

  • 2x Fried Chicken, made with fermented chili, green tea and seasoned with a sprinkling of lime zest;
  • Logan Poser Ramen, a robust soup featuring crispy pork shoulder croquette, poached egg, nori and cucumber created in response to a critique that anyone making ramen outside of Japan was a “poser”;
  • Charred Octopus, grilled to perfection over an open flame and served with green beans, crisp enoki mushrooms and topped with a light ponzu vinaigrette;
  • Marinated Eggplant Steam Bun, filled with Japanese mint, plums and broccoli;
  • Doughnuts, sweet treats made with tofu, sweet potato and a hint of rosemary.

Décor

Yusho’s design balances texture and color through the use of exposed brick walls, natural wood surfaces, stained concrete floors and warm-hued upholstery, used to highlight the restaurant’s open-flame cooking style. Whimsical comic book-themed watercolor paintings by Chicago artist Sarah Beacon as well as bright barstools and chairs adorn the space adding eye-catching pops of color. The vibrant restaurant’s four unique dining environments will include:

  • Kitchen area: Tables located around the exposed kitchen present prime views of the skilled chef team grilling and preparing menus items. Guests seated in this area will get a behind-the-scenes look at the culinary magic.
  • Bar: Guests may score insider tips as they watch knowledgeable bartenders mix handcrafted libations and serve a variety of Japanese sakes and beer at this interactive, high-energy space.
  • Main Dining Room: Those looking to dine in a quieter, more intimate environment can take refuge in the cozy corners of the central portion of the venue. Others may opt for seating in the open area, ideal for surveying the action taking place in all quarters of the restaurant.
  • Patio: The spacious outdoor patio located right in the heart of the bustling Strip will provide the ideal spot for enjoying the beautiful Las Vegas weather. Shaded areas protect from sun and rain, creating a comfortable and enjoyable al fresco dining experience year-round.
