The Manhattans Featuring Gerald Aston and Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes Come to Cannery Casino Hotel Oct. 21

The Manhattans featuring Gerald Aston and Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes will bring their classic R&B hits to Cannery Casino Hotel’s The Club on Saturday, Oct. 21.

Formed in 1962, The Manhattans began writing and singing their doo-wop-influenced hits, releasing their first single “For the Very First Time” in 1964. The Manhattans went on to reinvent their sound, creating smooth R&B and soul ballads in the ‘70s. After lead singer Smith became ill, the band recruited Gerald Alston as the new lead vocalist of the group. Together, the band released several top-charting songs, including their Platinum-selling No. 1 hit “Kiss and Say Goodbye.”

The Manhattans continued their success with the release of their hit ballads “There’s No Me Without You,” “Don’t Take Your Love,” “I Kinda Miss You” and “Hurt,” as well as with the songs “Feels So Good,” and “You’re My Life.” In 1980, the group won a Grammy Award for their hit single “Shining Star,” and were also inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame in 1999. The group’s current members Winfred “Blue” Lovett, Gerald Alston, David Tyson and Troy May continue to perform their best-loved hits across the United States.

Best known for their hits “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” and “The Love I Lost,” Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes have been bringing Philadelphia soul to the music world since 1954. With hits like “Wake Up Everybody (Part 1),” “Bad Luck (Part 1)” and “Satisfaction Guaranteed (Or Take Your Love Back),” the group has won over countless fans performing their soul, R&B, doo-wop and disco songs. In 1986, the group was one of the three original featured bands on the ‘70s Soul Jam Tour.

Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes have released nine albums, as well as nine compilation albums to date. The group has also released the No. 1 R&B hit “Hope That We Can Be Together Soon,” the No. 15 Billboard pop song “Bad Luck” and three Top 40 R&B singles from their album “Where Are All My Friends.” Although the late Harold Melvin passed away in 1997, the group continues to keep his memory alive performing their greatest hits from coast to coast.

The group’s current lineup consists of Donnell Gillespie, Rufus Thorn, Anthony Brooks, John Morris and features Sharon Paige.

Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets start at $34.95 plus taxes and convenience fees, and are available online at www.ticketmaster.com. For more information, visit www.CanneryCasino.com.
