THE VENETIAN AND THE PALAZZO LAS VEGAS
CELEBRATE THE YEAR OF THE DOG WITH ART INSTALLATION AND LION DANCE
Chinese New Year celebrations include a lion dance to kick off Lunar New Year, performances by Hacken Lee alongside special guests, and more

The Venetian® and The Palazzo® Las Vegas will celebrate Chinese New Year with extravagant décor, entertainment, retail, and food and beverage offerings beginning Jan. 12, with special festivities scheduled for Feb. 16.

ON JAN. 12 THE WATERFALL ATRIUM AND GARDENS TRANSFORM FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR

To commemorate the Year of the Dog, the eleventh position in the Chinese zodiac, The Venetian and The Palazzo’s floral and horticulture team worked with a team of artisans and consulted a feng shui master to create an installation that features a Chinese Shar-Pei, named Vincenzo Li that sits 16 feet tall.

“Throughout the last 10 months, 86 artisans worked to create this installation,” said Dana Beatty, executive director of floral and horticulture at The Venetian and The Palazzo. “The Chinese New Year holiday is an important one for our guests, and we aim to create something that is not only memorable, but culturally accurate.”

The Shar-Pei existed in China since ancient times and was chosen as the featured canine for the display because it symbolizes good fortune and protection. The feature Shar-Pei was hand-sculpted and covered in artificial fur to achieve his robust appearance. There are nine additional Shar-Peis positioned throughout the resort, as well as a three-foot hare, the secret friend of the dog.

EYE CEREMONY AND LION DANCE CELEBRATION ON FEB. 16

A highlight of Chinese New Year celebrations, the lion dance, is said to bring good luck and prosperity, with which The Venetian and The Palazzo will officially kick off Lunar New Year at 3:00 p.m. on Feb. 16. The ceremonial lion dance will begin with an eye ceremony at The Venetian porte cochere. The dance will wind its way through The Venetian lobby and casino before stopping in The Palazzo Waterfall Atrium, then continuing through The Palazzo casino, lobby, and ending at The Palazzo porte cochere. This exciting event features firecrackers, and a parade of dancers and drummers in authentic clothing.
