REBELS LAND TWO TO MOUNTAIN WEST WEEKLY AWARDS… AGAIN

The UNLV baseball team landed two to the Mountain West’s weekly awards with Joey Walls named Player of the Week and Santino Panaro named Freshman of the Week, for their efforts in the team’s 4-0 showing last week.

This is the first weekly accolade for Walls and the third weekly accolade for Panaro, who was named Freshman of the Week March 14 and March 28. This is the sixth consecutive week the Rebels have had a student-athlete earn the honors.

Walls started in all four games this week for the Rebels in right field, helping the Rebels to a 4-0 record, including a sweep over New Mexico this weekend. The junior batted a .706 over the week with 12 hits, including three home runs, 13 RBIs, 11 runs scored and three walks. During Sunday’s contest, he had a career high six RBIs, four hits and four runs scored for the Rebels. He also posted a 1.588 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage,

The Las Vegas native sits sixth in the nation and leads the MW for batting average (.447), ranks sixth in the nation and is tied for first in the MW for doubles (14), eighth in the nation and first in the MW for slugging percentage (.840), sits 29th in the nation and first in the MW for RBI (34) and leads the conference in OPS (1.354).

Panaro started in all four games over the week as the DH for the Rebels. He hit .357 on the week with five hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. He also recorded a multi-hit effort in two games.

Walls and Panaro are the sixth and seventh Rebels to earn MW Weekly Honors this season. Teammates Giannai Horvat and Braden Murphy earned Freshman weekly honors Feb. 28 and March 21, respectively. Edarian Williams was named Player of the Week March 8, Diego Alarcon was named PotW March 28 and Conner Woods was named Pitcher of the Week March 14.

UP NEXT: The Rebels return to Las Vegas and Earl E. Wilson Stadium for the first game of a 14-game homestand against UC Riverside, Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 p.m.

PURCHASE TICKETS
Single-game ticket prices this season are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, faculty and staff, and $5 to groups of 15 or more. Fans that purchase tickets online before game day can get them for an advanced single-game price of $6.

All high school, middle school and elementary students are free under UNLV’s new admission policy. To receive free admission, high school students must present valid Nevada are school I.D. at the box office on gameday for one (1) complimentary ticket. Current UNLV students will receive free admission with a valid school I.D. All other students will receive a complimentary ticket at the box office (no I.D. required). Kids not yet elementary school age will continue to receive free admission for all UNLV Olympic sports.
