RUNNIN’ REBELS AT SAN JOSE STATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON

Game at 2 p.m. will be shown on Mountain West Network

The Runnin’ Rebels will play their second straight game on the road on Saturday, Jan. 28, at San José State at 2 p.m. The Runnin’ Rebels are coming off a one-point loss at Wyoming on Wednesday night. They were down by as many as 20 points, fought all the way back to take the lead late, but couldn’t hold on. Junior guard Jovan Mooring missed a 3-pointer with two seconds left that would have won it.

The game at Wyoming followed UNLV’s thrilling double-overtime 87-85 victory over Air Force last Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Runnin’ Rebels are 10-11 on the year and 3-5 in Mountain West play. The Spartans are 9-10 overall and 2-6 in MW action.

Saturday will mark the first meeting between UNLV and San José State this season. UNLV leads the all-time series 35-4 and has won seven straight over the Spartans overall.

UNLV is led in scoring by sophomore guard Jalen Poyser (12.5 ppg), senior forward Tyrell Green (11.2 ppg), senior forward Christian Jones (11.2 ppg) and Mooring (10.9 ppg). Jones (6.6 rpg), sophomore guard Kris Clyburn (6.1 rpg) and Green (5.4 rpg) are the team’s leading rebounders, while Mooring (3.6 apg) and Poyser (3.3 apg) lead in assists. Mooring is third in the Mountain West in assists and second in conference-only games (4.6 apg). Junior forward Dwayne Morgan was leading the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg), but has missed the last 12 games because of injury. It was announced on Jan. 19 that he will miss the rest of the season.

San José State has lost three straight games: vs. Wyoming (80-70), vs. Boise State (75-65) and at Colorado State (81-72). The Spartans are 6-5 at home this season. Sophomore forward Brandon Clarke (18.4 ppg) and sophomore forward Ryan Welage (11.7 ppg) lead in scoring, while Clarke also leads in rebounding (7.7 rpg). Junior guard Jalen James is the team’s assist leader (2.8 apg).

Saturday’s game will be available online (Mountain West Network) with Justin Allegri calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online (link at UNLVRebels.com).
