RUNNIN’ REBELS BACK AT THOMAS & MACK CENTER TO HOST INCARNATE WORD
Wednesday’s 7 p.m. game will be UNLV’s first at home since November
After being out of the Thomas & Mack Center for the last 17 days as the facility hosted the National Finals Rodeo, the UNLV men’s basketball team (5-4) will return home to host Incarnate Word (5-3) on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m.
UNLV has lost two straight games since winning its first road game of the year on Nov. 30 at Southern Utah (89-81). The two losses were at Arizona State (97-73) on Dec. 3, and vs. No. 5/4 Duke (94-45) on Saturday at the new T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip.
UNLV will be back at the Thomas & Mack Center this week for the first time since opening the season with six straight home games. The Runnin’ Rebels went 4-2 in those contests.
UNLV sophomore guard Jalen Poyser led the Runnin’ Rebels in scoring against Duke with 16 points, which included 4 of 8 on 3-pointers. He has scored in double figures in all nine games this season and has had at least 20 points in three contests, while leading the team in scoring average at 17.3 ppg, which ranks fourth in the Mountain West.
Incarnate Word comes to Las Vegas having won its last three games: over LIU Brooklyn (90-79) on Dec. 3, vs. Texas Lutheran (78-71) on Dec. 7 and vs. Texas A&M International (83-68) on Saturday. The Cardinals are 0-2 in road games this season, falling 78-73 at then-No. 21 Texas on Nov. 11 and 69-48 at Texas Tech on Nov. 30. UIW is led by Shawn Johnson, who is second in the Southland Conference with 19.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. His shooting percentage of 54.4, ranks third.
Wednesday’s game will not be televised, but will be available via free video stream on the Mountain West Network/UNLVRebels.com with Tony Cordasco and Jevon Banks calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online (link at UNLVRebels.com).
