RUNNIN’ REBELS HOST NEW MEXICO TUESDAY NIGHT

UNLV looking for first Mountain West win at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center

After an 0-3 start to the Mountain West season and a change at the head coaching position, the UNLV men’s basketball team will be back on the court at the Thomas & Mack Center on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. to host New Mexico.

The Runnin’ Rebels have dropped their first three conference games by a combined six points and have lost five of their last six games overall. Tuesday night’s game will be the first for Interim Head Coach Todd Simon leading a team at the collegiate level. Simon was named to the position on Sunday night, replacing former head coach Dave Rice, who was in his fifth season leading the program.

UNLV (9-7, 0-3 MW) went 9-4 during its non-conference season, playing three top-15 teams. The Runnin’ Rebels went 2-1 in such games recording wins vs. then-No. 13/14 Indiana at the Maui Invitational and vs. then-No. 15/16 Oregon at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The loss was at then-No. 13/12 Arizona.

New Mexico (10-6, 3-0 MW) is tied for first place in the MW after defeating Nevada, Reno (88-76) at home, Fresno State (77-62) on the road and Utah State (77-59) at home. The Lobos went 7-6 during the non-conference season.

Tuesday’s game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network with Andrew Catalon and Steve Lappas calling the action, while Taylor Rooks will report from the sideline. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio broadcast, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM.
