RUNNIN’ REBELS HOST UNR ON SATURDAY NIGHT AT 7 PM
Game part of Governor’s Series, presented by NV Energy & Barrick Gold
The very shorthanded UNLV men’s basketball team will look to win its third straight game at home as it hosts Nevada, Reno, on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The game is part of the Governor’s Series, presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold, which is a head-to-head athletic and academic challenge between UNLV and UNR. The winner of the season’s series in men’s basketball will earn three points toward the final score. UNR won this year’s first meeting, 65-63, in Reno on Jan. 23. UNLV, which has won each of the first three years of the competition, leads this year’s contest 7.5-4.5.
The Tark Toy Drive is also being held on Saturday. All fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed toys to the game. The drive is promoting awareness for how strokes can happen at any age and the toys will be donated to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada.
UNLV is coming off a 79-74 loss at Air Force on Tuesday. The Runnin’ Rebels lost junior forward Ben Carter for the season during the San Diego State game on Jan. 30 and freshman forward Stephen Zimmerman Jr. is out indefinitely with a sprained knee that he suffered at Fresno State on Feb. 6. UNLV is 6-5 under Interim Head Coach Todd Simon.
Saturday’s game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network with Carter Blackburn and Pete Gillen calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio broadcast, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM. All internet links along with live stats will be available at UNLVRebels.com.
