RUNNIN’ REBELS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY WEDNESDAY NIGHT

UNLV will host Fresno State at 8 p.m. at Thomas & Mack Center

For the first time in UNLV head coach Dave Rice’s five years leading the Runnin’ Rebel program, the team will open Mountain West play at home. UNLV will host Fresno State on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 8 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center in both team’s league lid-lifter.

The Runnin’ Rebels (9-4) closed out their non-conference schedule with a 103-68 victory over South Dakota on Tuesday, Dec. 22. Wednesday’s game will mark the first for the Runnin’ Rebels in eight days. UNLV made 18 3-pointers against the Coyotes, which was the most it has made in a game since also making 18 on Dec. 28, 2011 in a home game vs. Central Arkansas. The 35-point margin of victory against USD marked the largest over a Division I team since defeating Northern Arizona by 38 at home on Nov. 12, 2012.

During the non-conference season, UNLV played three top-15 teams going 2-1 (wins vs. then-No. 13/14 Indiana at the Maui Invitational and vs. then-No. 15/16 Oregon at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas; loss at then-No. 13/12 Arizona).

Fresno State (9-4) is coming off an 89-46 home win over Pacific Union on Sunday. Prior to that, the Bulldogs lost at home to Evansville (85-77) on Dec. 20. Fresno State comes to Las Vegas having won three of its last four games (other wins: home games vs. Pacific and CSU Bakersfield).

Wednesday’s game will be televised nationally on ESPNU with Steve Quis and Julianne Viani calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio broadcast, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM. All internet links along with live stats will be available at UNLVRebels.com.
