The UNLV men’s golf team will be the No. 6 seed at the NCAA’s Columbus Regional, which will be played at The Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, beginning Thursday, May 16, the NCAA announced Monday.

The invitation marks UNLV’s 25th straight appearance in a NCAA Regional, which is the NCAA record for most consecutive appearances.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 16-18. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals, while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals to make up the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals not on those teams that will compete for the NCAA title.

The other five regional sites are Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash., University Club of Baton Rouge in Baton Rouge, La., ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz., The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark., and Golden Eagle Golf & Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla.

The 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship finals will be conducted May 28-June 2 at The Capital City Club’s Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga. Georgia Tech is the host institution for this year’s championship.

In its last outing, UNLV tied for second place at the Mountain West Championship, which was held this past weekend in Tucson, Ariz. Senior Kevin Penner earned medalist honors by a shot at 7-under, while sophomores Kurt Kitayama (T8th) and Carl Jonson (T10th) each recorded top-10 finishes.

On the season as a team, UNLV has competed in 11 tournaments and has recorded six top-four showings. The Rebels have had two runner-up finishes and one victory (ASU Thunderbird Invitational in April).
