Thomas helped Rebels to 2-1 start to the season with consecutive sweeps in Provo
After starting the season 2-1 at the dōTERRA Classic in Provo, Utah, UNLV volleyball’s Chloe Thomas was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Thomas, a 6-1 middle blocker from Allen, Texas, helped the Rebels to consecutive sweeps over Long Island and Southern Utah in their first two matches of the Fall 2021 campaign. She recorded 12 kills in three matches over the weekend, recording a team-high hitting percentage of .435. She also added nine block assists.
Against LIU, Thomas tallied five kills with just one error for a hitting percentage of .500 with five block assists. Against SUU, she also killed the ball five times with no errors for a match-high hitting percentage of .714. She also assisted on two blocks against the Thunderbirds. In the tournament’s finale against No. 15 BYU, she contributed two kills and a team-high-tying two block assists.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV, which is receiving votes in the national rankings, will open its home season with the Rebel Challenge, Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 2-4. The Rebels will host No. 8 Purdue on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Cox Pavilion, the Boilermakers will face No. 18 Washington State on Friday at 4 p.m. and UNLV will then face the Cougars on Saturday at 4 p.m.
