UNLV WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HOSTS SAN JOSE STATE ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Lady Rebels are 16-0 all-time against the Spartans in Las Vegas

The UNLV women’s basketball team is looking to both stay near the top of the Mountain West standings and start a new winning streak when it hosts the San Jose State Spartans on Wednesday night at 7 pm in the Cox Pavilion. The Lady Rebels recently had their five-game win streak snapped in a loss at Fresno State, which dropped them into a tie for third overall. UNLV is only one game behind first place Colorado State, who makes the visit to Las Vegas on Feb. 5.

Due to the league’s new 11-team, 18-game schedule this season, UNLV will play two of the schools only once, leaving Wednesday’s contest as the lone one of the season with the Spartans. That’s a positive for the Lady Rebels, who are 16-0 all-time against SJSU in Las Vegas, though this will be the first meeting as Mountain West opponents. In the last contest between two, UNLV cruised in an 80-48 victory on Nov. 19, 2011 in the Cox Pavilion.

UNLV will be facing a unique offense on Wednesday, as the Spartans are a very fast paced team under first-year head coach Jamie Craighhead, looking to shoot early and often. They are second in the MW in scoring at 78 points per game, but also are last in points allowed, giving up 87.9 ppg, and have allowed over 100 points twice already in conference action.

There will be a live webcast of the game, thanks to the UNLV-TV student production group, that will be featured on the Mountain West Network at UNLVRebels.com. while the UNLV radio broadcast, featuring the call from Adam Candee, Dominique Harris and Jesse Vineyard, is available on KSHP 1400 AM and also off a link at UNLVRebels.com.
