One year. One thousand hires. A celebration of how a one-of-a-kind collaboration of government, non-profit and educational partners can give job seekers wings to become skilled employees.

Workforce Connections, along with its non-profit and educational partners, will celebrate the one-year anniversary of the only comprehensive One-Stop Career Center in Nevada, located at 6330 W. Charleston Blvd., Suite 190 (Charleston & Torrey Pines) on Wednesday, June 25 at 10 a.m.

The celebration will include a brief ceremony and a butterfly release to symbolize how job training can transform a job seeker into an employee by providing the wings to succeed.

“This one-year anniversary is a testament to teamwork and shows how we can effectively put tax dollars to work,” said Ardell Galbreth, executive director of Workforce Connections. “The One-Stop Career Center allows job seekers and employers to come to one place for help to receive a variety of services. Background

Workforce Connections’ One-Stop Career Center opened to the public in June 2013 with the goal of providing job seekers and employers a true one-stop environment for in-demand job training, and education initiatives. The 8,000 square foot facility includes a comprehensive resource center with computers, printers, fax machine, phone access and notary services. Additional computer labs and conference rooms are used for regular training and hiring events.

More than two dozen non-profit and public agency employment programs that receive federal funds for job placement initiatives each have a full-time representative at the One-Stop Career Center. Workforce Connections also has a business engagement team to actively recruit and cater to employers who are looking to grow their workforce or train employees.

Because of the no cost training and services, more than 650 people have found employment since One-Stop opened its doors last year. Training and hiring events, like the Nevada Day Super Hiring Event in October 2013, have helped an additional 350 individuals become employed.

Workforce Connections’ One-Stop Career Center is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Phone: (702) 822-4200.
