UNLV’S BAILEY THOMAS NAMED TO GOOGLE CLOUD CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
Sophomore guard was a second-team selection
UNLV’s Bailey Thomas was voted to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Women’s Basketball Second Team, the organization of sports information directors (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday. Thomas is the first Lady Rebel to earn academic all-district honors since Brittany Halberg was a first-team selection in the 2008-09 season.
Thomas, a sophomore guard and native of Las Vegas, is in her first year on the court with the Lady Rebels after playing at West Virginia before transferring to UNLV in the summer of 2017. She received her first career start in a road game at Duke on Dec. 6, and has been in the starting lineup ever since. Her defensive play has been a big key to the Lady Rebels ranking second in the Mountain West in field goal percentage defense in league play. Her 25 steals is ranked third on the team, and she recently set a new career-high with nine points in UNLV’s 74-70 victory over San Jose State Feb. 16.
A three-time member of the Dean’s Honor List at UNLV, Thomas carries a cumulative GPA of 3.96 while majoring in accounting. Student-athletes must be in at least their second season, hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be a starter or important reserve to be eligible for the Google Cloud Academic All-District teams. District VIII is made up of schools in California, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Utah.
NEXT TIME OUT: UNLV will face the San Diego State Aztecs in a key road contest Saturday afternoon at 1 pm. There will be both a live video stream and radio broadcast of the contest, available on UNLVRebels.com.
