Hearts Alive Village Opens the First Nonprofit, Full-Service Veterinary Clinic in Nevada

Hearts Alive Village Animal Rescue Opens the First Nonprofit, Full-Service  Veterinary Clinic in Nevada

Hearts Alive Village Las Vegas (HAVLV) is opening a low-cost, high-quality veterinary clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada this fall. The full-service clinic located at 3250 N Decatur, will provide reasonably priced veterinary care to community animals as well as adoptable animals through the rescue and other nonprofit rescue organizations.

It is estimated roughly 140,000 people living with pets in the Las Vegas area struggle to meet the basic needs of their families. Too often, pet parents are forced to make a difficult decision. Faced with unreasonable veterinary bills, many owners will either have to let their pet suffer or euthanize them for a treatable condition. Some owners will surrender their pets to the shelter in the hopes that they will be cared for. Sadly, the outcome is often tragic for animals entering the shelter with an emergency medical condition.

Since day one, Hearts Alive Village has been focused on keeping pets in their original homes whenever possible. This is a concept called “community sheltering.” Through our pet food pantry, Kendall’s Kupboard, we provide food for approximately 1,000 families struggling financially. Over the last five years, Hearts Alive Village has received roughly 25 calls per week asking for assistance with medical costs. Though several outside veterinary clinics have generously worked with the organization to provide more affordable care, not having our own clinic has seriously limited the number of animals Hearts Alive Village can help. “No animal should ever suffer or be surrendered because of their parent’s inability to afford veterinary care,” said Executive Director Christy Stevens. “Every year, tens of thousands of animals find themselves in our valley’s shelters and rescues. This clinic will allow us to provide a more comprehensive solution for at-risk animals, preventing those pets from entering the system in the first place.”

The Pet Adoption and Wellness center is at the corner of Cheyenne and Decatur, strategically located to serve the population that needs it most. This 8393 square foot building is on .66 acres of land and is comprised of a full-service veterinary clinic, grooming facility, and boarding facility.

The Veterinary Clinic will provide:

  • Examinations
  • Vaccinations and other preventative care
  • Diagnostics including bloodwork, x-ray, and ultrasound
  • Spay and neuter
  • General surgery
  • Dental care
  • Basic dermatology
  • Geriatric care
  • Humane euthanasia
  • A certified fear free environment

The full-service grooming facilities include tables, baths, kennels, and dryers with accommodations for up to 2 groomers.  As an adoption center, 40 living spaces will provide certified fear free sheltering and rehabilitation for homeless dogs and cats and limited boarding for people and their pets experiencing a crisis.

There will be at least one full-time vet on staff along with certified vet technicians, veterinary assistants, animal care attendants, groomers, animal enrichment specialists, and an intake manager. A number of local for-profit veterinarians have offered their services pro-bono to assist at the clinic as well.

The clinic is not meant to be a competitor of for-profit veterinary clinics, but rather a resource for those who cannot afford to patronize them or are unable to qualify for credit. Clients will be pre-screened for financial need and services will be available to those meeting specific criteria. This will allow Hearts Alive Village to be a resource not only to the community, but to veterinary clinics unable to provide services at a discount.

Although our low costs will make care available to a wider population, there will still be pet owners who have no ability to pay. The Village Fund is a program used to provide free veterinary care for owners who are unable to afford even our low-cost services.  This funding will come from grants and community donations.

Community support will be essential to the clinic’s success and we have launched a Veterinary Equipment Drive to stock the clinic with everything from an Ultrasound machine to digital thermometers. Donors can select items to donate at:

“A preventative resource is the best medicine for the crisis animals are facing in our community.” said Stevens. “For us, it has to be about more than rescue.”

About:  Hearts Alive Village Las Vegas (HAVLV) is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to secure loving and stable homes for dogs and cats at risk of being lost in the shelter system. The multidimensional organization provides a variety of programs including; Kendall’s Kupboard a pet food pantry, Charlie Mike a program that matches veterans with support animals, and provides access to resources like training, financial assistance for veterinary costs and more, Foster & Adoption Program where strays, animals acquired from shelters, and owner surrenders are placed in foster homes until forever homes are secured, Humane Education to youth groups throughout the valley teaching responsible pet ownership, safety, and empathy, Pet Supplies offers new and gently used pet items such as toys, beds and more, and their newly opened Pet Adoption and Wellness Center. HAVLV’s headquarters is located at  Hearts Alive Village Adoption Center and Pet Supplies, 1750 South Rainbow Unit #4 Las Vegas, NV.

The Iconic Las Vegas Great Santa Run to Support Opportunity Village Will Go Virtual for the 2020 Event

Opportunity Village has taken into consideration recommendations from the CDC, elected officials, and past participants regarding the 2020 Las Vegas Great Santa Run. The decision has been made to make the upcoming event a virtual run for the health and safety of participants.

The Las Vegas Great Santa Run returns for its 16th year in a brand-new format, virtual! Historically the largest single-day fundraising event for Opportunity Village, the organization and Las Vegas Great Santa Run officials took into account recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Governor , and ultimately decided a virtual race would be best for the health and safety of all involved. Mr. Claus penned an open letter to race officials, encouraging folks to stay involved with Opportunity Village and participate in their jolly race — not only to stay on his ‘nice’ list, but to also work off those impending holiday cookies. “Hard to social distance those delicious things with some cold milk,” Santa said.

Those interested in participating can register at for just $30 beginning July 13th. Runners and walkers will receive a medal, downloadable bib, swag bag and Santa suit (while supplies last) and can complete a 5K or 1-mile course of their choosing from December 5 – 26, 2020. Registrants will have the option of picking up their packets as early as November 30th or can elect to have their packets mailed out during registration for a small fee. We encourage those participating to further support Opportunity Village by creating a fundraiser and having friends and family participate in the event with you.

Known as one of Las Vegas’ most jolly fun runs, the internationally recognized Las Vegas Great Santa Run raises funds and awareness for Opportunity Village’s programs and services, which provide unparalleled opportunities, enrichment and support to nearly 2,000 Southern Nevada residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Last year’s 15th annual Las Vegas Great Santa Run registered 6,644 Santa participants from all across the world, including six countries and 43 states. The holiday event is one of the largest of its kind in the world. The 2020 Las Vegas Great Santa Run is presented by Circle K.

We will be announcing some fun contests and prizes over the next few months as we gear up for the 16th annual event. Please follow The Las Vegas Great Santa Run on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to stay in the know. The event will be filled with interactive components that runners and walkers can participate in if they wish.

There will be volunteer help needed leading up to the event, to learn more about these opportunities click here.

Those interested in sponsoring should contact for opportunities available.

Nevada’s Frey Ranch Distillery releases inaugural Straight Rye Whiskey

Nevada’s Frey Ranch Distillery releases inaugural Straight Rye Whiskey

The Bottled-in-Bond, 100% Rye Whiskey launches in its home state this summer

Frey Ranch Distillery is pleased to announce the release of its inaugural Straight Rye Whiskey (50% ABV, $59.99 SRP), available now throughout the distillery’s home state of Nevada. Frey Ranch Straight Rye Whiskey holds the coveted “bottled-in-bond” designation, which requires that a spirit is produced by a single distiller within one season, aged for a minimum of four years in a bonded warehouse and bottled at precisely 100-proof. Batches one and two will be released in extremely limited quantities, with 3,000 and 2,400 bottles available from each batch, respectively. The release of Frey Ranch Straight Rye Whiskey follows the distillery’s debut of its Straight Bourbon Whiskey in December of 2019, an expression that was awarded 90 points by Wine Enthusiast.

Located in northern Nevada’s Lake Tahoe Watershed, Frey Ranch Distillery grows, malts, and distills 100 percent of its whiskey grains on-site for consistent quality as a point of pride. The Frey family has a history of farming in the region that dates back to 1854 which lives on today through Frey Ranch CEO, co-founder, and “Whiskey Farmer,” Colby Frey, who started the distillery in 2006 with his wife and co-founder, Ashley. The Freys work closely alongside Master Distiller and Certified Crop Advisor, Russell Wedlake, to carefully oversee each stage of the production process, “From Ground to Glass™.”

Frey Ranch Straight Rye Whiskey has a mash bill of 100 percent Winter Cereal Rye and maintains a smooth, complex flavor that sets it apart from the pepper-forward flavor profile found in many ryes. This versatility makes for a flavorful whiskey that can be enjoyed on its own or in a cocktail.

“As our rye was aging, we knew we had something special on our hands based on the reactions of those who sampled it,” says Colby Frey. “Nearly everyone commented on its smoothness and how easy it is to sip, which is rare for a 100 percent rye mash bill. We’re very proud of how our first-ever Straight Rye Whiskey turned out and can’t wait to share it with consumers.”

(50% ABV, 750 ml, $59.99 SRP)

Nose: Intense notes of wood and rye spice, vanilla, and caramel lead into a glorious perfume of grapefruit zest, almond, and honey

Palate: Full-bodied and buttery with plenty of black pepper spice and ginger up front; a long, lingering finish brings velvety honey, raisin, and cacao nibs

Frey Ranch Straight Rye Whiskey is available at Total Wine & More and Lee’s Liquor locations throughout Nevada. It is carried in Las Vegas at Liquor World, Liquor Lineup, and Khoury’s Fine Wine & Spirits.

Circa Resort & Casino Reveals New Details For Multi-Level Pool Amphitheater, Stadium Swim

Circa Resort & Casino Reveals New Details For Multi-Level Pool Amphitheater, Stadium Swim

When Circa Resort & Casino opens its doors in Downtown Las Vegas on October 28, it will debut Stadium Swim, a multi-level destination pool amphitheater operating 365 days a year that’s primed to become one of the most exciting pool experiences in the country. For Stadium Swim renderings, click here.

Overlooking both Downtown Las Vegas and The Strip, Stadium Swim’s bold design will house a massive screen for sports fans and sunseekers to catch games and entertainment of all kinds. The venue also will feature state-of-the-art Ultraviolet Light (UVL) sanitation and water-recirculation patterns, providing guests with the cleanest and healthiest public pool experience in Las Vegas.

Stadium Swim reservations are now live at and can be booked using an interactive 3D map.

“We’re building Stadium Swim to be unlike any pool in existence today and to reinvent the Vegas pool party, 365 days a year,” said Circa’s CEO Derek Stevens. “I can promise there will be no better location in the world to watch a big game than at Stadium Swim – even better than at the game itself. Beyond sports, it will be a great place to catch sun and listen to music, and I believe it will be a destination experience that inspires trips to Las Vegas.”

Serving as the backdrop of the multifunctional pool space, a 135 x 41-foot, 14-million-megapixel LED screen will broadcast major games and popular televised events. To keep the party going, local artists will helm Stadium Swim’s DJ booth with a daily roster of upbeat music. Additionally, two swim-up bars on the pool deck’s lower level will enable guests to order a beverage without leaving the water.

Designed by Steelman Partners, the multi-tiered outdoor amphitheater will boast six pools and two spas, with 15,756 square feet of wet space. Each body of water will be a different temperature ranging from 78 to 94 degrees depending on weather conditions. The fifth-level pools will be heated to a temperature of 104 degrees on colder days, providing guests with an après ski-like sensation, all while in the heart of the desert.

A glimpse into Stadium Swim:

Poolside Accommodations

Guests can relax and unwind in an assortment of poolside lounge areas, including 30 cabanas and super cabanas hosting up to 25 guests. Approximately 340 chaise lounges, 38 day beds and eight poolside boxes will be offered for both hotel guests and visitors to rent. Enhanced VIP experiences will be available with tableside services including dedicated servers and towel refreshment, in addition to luxurious spaces with couches.

Cleanliness and Sanitation

As water cleanliness is a key priority for Stadium Swim, Circa’s team conducted in-depth research on the development of a pool that can self-clean several times a day. As a result, Stadium Swim’s water will be fully recirculated four to six times faster than required by codes. While typical pool filters are filled with sand, Stadium Swim’s will use an activated material that is 100 percent bio-resistant and self-sterilizing glass material. This will allow for a greater surface cleaning area, resulting in clearer and healthier water that is two times more effective than if sand was used.

All eight water bodies will have UVL sanitizers, which are technologically advanced devices designed to destroy pathogens, bacteria, viruses, organic and inorganic contaminants, and greatly reduce chlorine use. Additionally, the pools will have highly sophisticated and real-time chemical monitoring controllers in place to continuously analyze the composition of all pool and spa water, second by second. Automated chlorine and chemical-dispensing systems will instantaneously adjust water chemistry throughout the day.

STO Design Group, Inc., Circa’s pool consultant, stated, ”Circa has adopted by far the fastest recirculation times of any pool in Las Vegas, and hasnvested in the most effective filter, continuous UV light treatment of all systems, top-of-the-line water chemistry analyzers and chemical feed systems. Together, this will deliver the cleanest and most sustainable pool water in the city.”

Food & Drink

Stadium Swim will serve up poolside fare through a collaboration between famed Michigan restaurateurs Paul Saginaw, Chris Sotiropoulos and Grace Keros.

Together, Paul, Chris and Grace will bring pool-goers a selection of elevated poolside bites, with menu highlights such as lobster corndogs with yuzu dipping sauce, fruit nachos, the Stadium Dog (Circa’s twist to a Sonoran Dog), and classic favorites.  Table service will be top notch, with faster delivery times thanks to the use of mobile tablets that send orders immediately to the kitchen or bar.

Saginaw is known worldwide for Zingerman’s Deli, which is consistently ranked among the world’s best sandwich joints. Keros and Sotiropoulos are the third-generation owners of Detroit’s iconic 103-year-old American Coney Island, which made its mark on American history when it invented the Coney Dog. Both will open original concepts at Circa this fall – Saginaw’s Delicatessen and Victory Burger & Wings Co., respectively.

Along with Circa, guests 21 and older staying at Stevens’ sister properties – the D Las Vegas and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino – will be able to access Stadium Swim for free and can enjoy the venue one hour before it opens to the public.

Stadium Swim will be open seven days a week, excluding closures for special or private events. For guests not staying at the hotel, there will be a fee for entrance. Lounge chairs will be available to rent in two- or four-hour increments. Daybeds/cabanas will be sold with a food and beverage minimum and can be reserved all day. The pool deck also can be rented out for private events, meetings, parties and more.

Circa Resort & Casino will be Downtown Las Vegas’ first ground-up casino resort since 1980. The 1.25-million-square-foot integrated resort will feature the world’s largest sportsbook, stylish rooms and suites, a selection of original restaurant concepts and more.

The Restaurant Is The Only Orthodox Union Kosher Certification Holder In Nevada

Burnt Offerings, Nevada’s only Orthodox Union (OU) Kosher Certified Restaurant, is bringing a fresh approach to Kosher dining to the greater Las Vegas Valley. This distinct certification brings a whole new level to mindful eating with a 24-hour surveillance of the restaurant’s kitchen and an on-site, full-time kosher supervisor to maintain the restaurant’s status.

“We felt that it was necessary to achieve the highest level of Kosher certification to bring peace of mind to our patrons,” said Executive Chef Jennifer Eckmann. “Not only is this important for our Jewish guests with strict Kosher dietary restrictions, but the certification is also appealing to our vegan customers, guests with allergies as well as those who may be focusing on mindful eating as we are able to ensure that there is no cross-contamination with animal products. There’s something for everyone on our menu.”

The restaurant features a dairy-free and shellfish-free menu with only the highest quality Kosher meats available. Guests won’t find any sort of shellfish on the menu. Instead, Chef Jennifer Eckmann has created a new-yiddish, pan-fusion menu including modern Jewish dishes, American classics, Italian staples and Polish imports. The eclectic menu can be enjoyed for brunch, lunch or dinner. Kosher wines are available by the glass or by the bottle, and domestic, draught beers, specialty cocktails and mocktails make for the perfect pairing with any dish.

With less than 60 Orthodox Union Kosher Restaurants in the United States, this is the most internationally accepted certification when it comes to achieving a kosher kitchen. The certification is a true testament to providing an incredible and safe dining experience each and every time. This certification is especially important during these times of uncertainty due to the high-standard of cleanliness that the kitchen is held.

Reservations are highly suggested by calling 702-848-2876. Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and closed Saturday.

An original, foodie-conscious concept collaboration between Executive Chef Jennifer Eckmann (a 25-year Foodservice industry veteran), and entrepreneur Alexandra Emtsova (a 10-year luxury industry veteran), Burnt Offerings offers the Las Vegas community a unique, fun & highly creative Kosher menu, designed to peak curiosity and satisfy the senses. With the use of highest quality ingredients, knowledge of the traditional, and the creativity to progress & evolve Kosher cuisine, Burnt Offerings aims to revive, rejuvenate, and re-imagine the possibilities of Kosher food, while infusing the fundamentals, and paying homage to the cuisine’s origins. The OU (Orthodox Union) Kosher is the world’s largest and most widely recognized kosher certification agency, certifying over 1,201,950 products produced in more than 9,715 plants located in 104 countries around the world. The OU, termed a “coveted seal of approval” by The New York Times, is one of the world’s best-known trademarks. Comparing it to the UL®, Forbes magazine wrote, “If you want to know your food is kosher, you can look for the Orthodox Union’s OU symbol.” It immediately and universally enhances your product, raising the perception of its quality, and increasing its marketability. Their 900 Rabbinic Field Representatives, located across North America and throughout the world – from Europe to Australia, from China to South Africa—are proficient in modern food production techniques and chemical and biological processes, no less than the intricacies of Jewish law. Their New York headquarters staff consists of over 60 Rabbinic Coordinators who serve as account executives for OU certified companies, supplemented by a roster of ingredient specialists, flavor analysts and other support staff. A state-of-the-art computer system stores and tracks product information and ingredients. The Orthodox Union database contains information on more than 2,613,415 food ingredients. Many of the food industry’s most recognized brands, large and small, choose the OU for their kosher certification. These include: ADM, Avebe, Cargill, Coca Cola, Peter Cremer, Danisco, Dean Foods, DSM, General Mills, Chr. Hansen, Hebei Welcome Pharmaceutical, H.J. Heinz, Hershey’s, Kraft/Nabisco, McCormick & Co., Nestlé, Novartis, Procter & Gamble, Quest, Reynolds Aluminum, Rhodia, Unilever, and thousands more. The OU does much more than ensure the highest standards of kosher certification. OU Kosher is unique among all the major kosher certification agencies, as it is part of a non-profit communal organization (founded in 1898), so that it can maintain the highest levels of integrity without any possible conflict of interest. The Orthodox Union, now in its second century of service to the Jewish community of North America and beyond, is a world leader in community and synagogue services, adult education, youth work through NCSY, political action through the IPA, and advocacy for persons with disabilities through Yachad and Our Way. The annual St. Jude Heart of Fashion event, benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, transitioned to a virtual experience on Friday, June 19, streaming live on Facebook and featured St. Jude mission moments, guest speakers, live auction and more.

Leading up to the virtual experience, local influencers, including Michael Godard, Bark-Andre Furry, Ricardo Laguna, amongst others, “walked the runway” in their homes for a virtual fashion week, encouraging their followers to become supporters of St. Jude.

The virtual experience included an exclusive fashion show by luxury retailer Chloe, remarks by Wayne Sermon, lead guitarist with the Imagine Dragons and local St. Jude patient families. The event raised over $135,000 for St. Jude, which is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Las Vegas Natural History Museum Opens Summer Traveling Exhibit, In the Dark

The Las Vegas Natural History Museum (LVNHM), located at 900 Las Vegas Boulevard in the downtown Las Vegas cultural corridor, announces the opening of a new traveling exhibit, In the Dark.

Darkness beckons exploration and represents the unknown, but it’s also a natural evolutionary pressure that caused plants and animals to adapt. This exhibit invites visitors to discover the dark, often unseen, ecosystems of the world like caves, the deep sea, the forest at night, and underneath the ground. Guests explore these mysteries via electronic, mechanical and computer interactives, immersive dioramas, and lifelike models.

“In the heat of the summer, this is the perfect exhibit to immerse our guests into the dark, cool places of the world while showcasing the amazing adaptations of the plants and animals who live there,” said Marilyn Gillespie, Executive Director of the Las Vegas Natural History Museum.

In the Dark is included with Museum Admission or Membership.

The Las Vegas Natural History Museum reopened on June 1st with new protocols for guests to safely and comfortably experience exhibits and educational programming, following CDC guidelines.

The Las Vegas Natural History Museum began in 1989 with a small group of citizens who knew the community would benefit from the educational resources it could provide. After very humble beginnings, this private non-profit museum is now a Smithsonian Affiliate, accredited with the American Alliance of Museums, and is a federal and state repository for fossils and artifacts. Hearts Alive Village Pet Food Pantry

Hearts Alive Village Animal Rescue has expanded their Kendall’s Kupboard food pantry to become the Pet Food Disaster Distribution Center for the State of Nevada, thanks to food donations from and a grant for space and equipment from the Dave and Cheryl Duffield Foundation.

With the Las Vegas unemployment rate surpassing 33% and Nevada’s unemployment rate above 28%, many pet owners are finding it difficult to feed their pets, leading many to consider surrendering their beloved pet to the shelter. In an effort to keep pets in their original homes, Hearts Alive Village Animal Rescue provides pet food to families in Nevada struggling to feed their animals. Since its expansion, Kendall’s Kupboard has gone from feeding 200-300 pets a month, to over 915 households including 1,894 dogs and 1,021 cats.

In addition, the pet food bank is supplying food to fellow rescue and welfare organizations throughout the state including Path 4 Paws, Street Dogz, Southern Nevada Animal Rescue League, Vegas Pet Rescue Project, Project 4 Humanity, A Home 4 Spot, and Wend Rover Pet Connection. This equates to over 17,000 lbs. of food distributed to individuals and organizations.

This local distribution of pet food is part of a multi-million-dollar nationwide donation effort that is executing to help the pet communities across the U.S. impacted most by the coronavirus outbreak. “The COVID-19 pandemic is creating an unprecedented animal sheltering crisis, while also affecting pet parents,” said Liz Baker, CEO for “It is our duty to step in and offer assistance on a national level by creating a network of relief distribution centers with our local animal shelter partners while also supporting them.”

Thanks to a grant from the Dave and Cheryl Duffield Foundation, in early May, Hearts Alive Village signed a 12-month lease on a warehouse to house and distribute the pet food.

“No pet owner should ever have to make the decision between feeding themselves and feeding their pets,” said Christy Stevens, Executive Director of Hearts Alive Village. “This distribution center allows us to be a resource for the community, ensuring that no pet is ever surrendered due to a lack of food.”

Individuals can enroll to receive pet food through the program at An appointment will be scheduled and “drive thru” distribution will protect staff, volunteers, and recipients. The website will also include information for those Individuals and businesses that would like to support the program with a food or monetary donation.
