Cure 4 The Kids Foundation Debuts New Arts in Medicine Program

Cure 4 The Kids Foundation Debuts New Arts in Medicine Program

The Former Project Imagine Merging Into Cure 4 The Kids Foundation

Project Imagine, an Arts in Medicine program which has enhanced the lives of thousands of Southern Nevada pediatric patients, will continue its inspirational work by becoming a program of Cure 4 The Kids Foundation.

Under the mutually approved agreement, Project Imagine will disband its own 501(c)(3) designation and become a full-fledged Arts in Medicine Program within Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, also a 501(c)(3) organization. The merger will benefit the arts initiative in several ways, including the ability to strengthen and expand the program, seek additional sources of revenue through Cure 4 The Kids Foundation donors, and provide the program with a permanent location.

“I started this organization 12 years ago after cancer took the life of a little girl I knew and deeply loved,” said Diane Mifsud, Founder of Project Imagine. “The loss propelled me to look at how I could use my artistic talents to benefit other children facing similar and difficult medical journeys. Through Project Imagine, I have had the pleasure to work side-by-side with the staff at Cure 4 The Kids Foundation. I see their excellence at work and the incredible care they have for these patients. Their focus and dedication to patients are why I chose to join Cure 4 The Kids Foundation,” she said.

Mifsud will bring her artistic interventions to patients at the clinic, including before and after medical appointments and during lengthy treatments in the clinic’s infusion suite. Cure 4 The Kids patients admitted into Summerlin Hospital’s Pediatric Hematology Oncology Unit will interact with Mifsud via virtual online visits.

In the past, Mifsud utilized additional local artists in music, theater, art, and photography to provide one-on-one enrichment sessions with patients, and to help them cope with feelings of isolation that can accompany a prolonged illness. Due to pandemic health safeguards, these additional artistic experiences will remain on hold until further notice.

“I am so very proud that Diane Mifsud chose to bring this successful Arts in Medicine program into the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation family where it will continue to enhance the lives of patients, and also benefit from our shared vision to provide the best treatment and related services to patients and their families,” said Annette Logan-Parker, president & CEO, Cure 4 The Kids Foundation.

As part of the transition, Mifsud will become director of the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation Arts in Medicine program and a member of the organization’s Behavioral Health Team.

“I know the impact our artists have on these children, which is why I continue to be so passionate about art working alongside medicine,” said Mifsud. “One of our artists played guitar for a boy in isolation – at a medically approved and safe distance – and the musician was able to change the energy in that room in seconds. It makes me cry when I think about it. Everybody started dancing, and then I looked around near the nurse’s station, and they’re dancing too. It just permeates whatever space we’re in, and the effect blows me away every single time,” she said.

Last year, approximately 1,000 patients or “little people” as Mifsud calls them, were directly served by the Arts in Medicine program. Since 2010, Mifsud has worked with patients at Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, Summerlin Hospital Medical Center and Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center.

The iconic Plaza Hotel & Casino located in the heart of downtown Las Vegas will reopen to hotel and casino guests on Thursday, June 4 in accordance with all federal, state and local government guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“The last three months have been a difficult time for the Plaza, Las Vegas, and our country as a whole,” said Plaza Hotel & Casino CEO Jonathan Jossel. “People are yearning to get back to living their lives, including relaxing by the pool and playing on the casino floor. While we recognize the experience will be different than before, it is the start of bringing back fun and entertainment to people’s lives – now, during these stressful times, when they need it most. So, we are very excited to welcome guests back to the Plaza and bring back the vintage Vegas vibe that our guests deserve and have come to expect.”

As part of the Plaza’s reopening plan submitted to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, the property will require all staff to wear masks, have their temperature taken before starting work, enter via a designated location, and observe social distancing. Guests will also be encouraged to wear masks (although not required) and receive an amenity kit at check-in with a complimentary mask for their use.

All hotel and casino guests can now self-park for free, and valet parking has been closed. Curbside check-in has been added to minimize contact, and guests will enter the property through a limited number of doors that will operate automatically or be set open manually. Quick-serve dining outlets, such as Pop Up Pizza and Coffee Bar will also reopen.

Elevators will be limited to four people at a time, and social distancing will be observed in all public spaces, including on the rooftop pool deck and casino floor through the removal of chairs at table games and reconfiguring of slot machines.

The Plaza will utilize enhanced disinfecting protocols for all public touchpoints, including doors, tables, chairs, kiosks, room keys, and gaming equipment. Vending machines, including ice machines, will be turned off until all restrictions have been lifted.

During the closure, the Plaza completed a deep cleaning of the entire property and fully renovated the casino bathrooms. Physical modifications were also made including the installation of plexiglass barrier at the registration desk and numerous touchless hand sanitizer stations for use by staff and guests.

On June 4, the Plaza’s Bingo room, the only one in downtown Las Vegas will again offer six daily bingo sessions. Popular with locals and tourists alike, the Bingo room at the Plaza is uniquely located two floors above the main casino. By parking on the third floor of the Plaza’s self-parking garage, guests have convenient and direct access to the Plaza’s bingo room without having to walk through the casino floor.

The Bingo room at the Plaza will reopen with a special offer: Blue Packs pay $75 and the Blue Coverall pays $300. The Plaza will also continue to offer the Bingo Millions Megaprogressive games, electronic specials, Hotball Jackpot and Cashball Bonus. BLVD Coffee reopens this week and Pawn Plaza installs PURE ZONE, anantimicrobial film laminate, for better hygiene and safety at the Plaza

The excitement of opening their new business, BLVD Coffee, in early March had the Carter family optimistic but the coronavirus had other plans for them.  Just two weeks later they closed for the safety of their new downtown community as well as everyone in Las Vegas.  That excitement is back as they reopen this week and return to normal hours of 8 am to 4 pm  and share their gratitude with frontline workers by offering them a free coffee through the end of the month.

The new Pawn Plaza tenant joins Good Pie, Rick’s Rollin Smoke BBQ & Tavern, Chumlee’s Candy on the Blvd., Chapels at the Pawn, Highway Radio, Pawn Plaza Visitors Center, Master Barbering Galo Shop and Elite Motorsports to round out the dining and shopping opportunities across the parking lot from the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop.

The reopened BLVD Coffee will now specialize on to go orders aimed at offices in the area.  “We felt like with all the businesses around our downtown location these offerings might be better suited to their needs and appetites and we know that adjusting to the current times will be instrumental to our success moving forward,” said Tim Carter.

The Carter family are Vegas basketball tradition and have called Las Vegas home for over a quarter century.  Dad “Big Mike” coaches at Bishop Gorman and has for more than two decades.  Younger son Ben is a professional basketball player overseas and mom Hadar, a former Israeli Army Lieutenant, is the heart of the family and the coffee operation.  Oldest son Tim will oversee operations after playing collegiate basketball.  The family has always bonded over coffee and thus BLVD Coffee was born.  “BLVD Coffee will support local businesses and to that end our coffee will come from Boulder City’s Colorado River Coffee Roasters,” said Tim Carter.

In addition to celebrating the reopening of BLVD Coffee, Pawn Plaza installed last week an antimicrobial film laminate, PURE ZONE, to make the location even safer for visitors, tenants and employees.  This innovative technology which is being installed by local company Purple Flare will have laminates at all touch zones at Pawn Plaza.  The biofilm used keeps germs from collecting on surfaces and lasts for several years.  The reduction in germs is 99.99% over surfaces not laminated by the product.  Purple Flare can be reached at or 702 677 4200 for more information on the PURE ZONE product.

Pawn Plaza is located at 725 Las Vegas Boulevard South, just south of the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, home to HISTORY’s “Pawn Stars.” For the latest news and information on Pawn Plaza, visit or Like Pawn Plaza on Facebook.

Each Taste & Learn offers a tour through some of Italy’s most intriguing wineries. June’s event spotlights Paitin from Piedmont, Italy. Paitin is known for its old-vine parcel of Sori Paitin within the Serraboella cru; Serraboella represents one of the more structured crus in Barbaresco, like Montestefano or Albeisa.

As always, Ferraro’s award-winning chef will prepare imaginative dishes to accompany each wine. The full menu follows:

Guerrieri Rizzardi, Soave Classico, 2018
Giant squid, spring vegetables, tomato relish

Paitin Nebbiolo Ca Veja, 2016
Bagna Cauda
Traditional garlic-anchovy dip, polenta, rice chips, vegetables

Paitin Barbaresco Serra, 2016
Raviolini Al Gorgonzola
Small pocket Gorgonzola cheese ravioli, mushroom ragout

Paitin Barbaresco “Sori Paitin” Serraboella, 2015
Roasted quail, artichokes, pistachio, foie gras sauce
