RUNNIN’ REBELS TO CLOSE OUT HOMESTAND TUESDAY NIGHT

UNLV men’s basketball team will conclude four-game, eight-day stretch with Jackson State at 7 p.m. at Thomas & Mack Center

The UNLV men’s basketball team will conclude its four-game, eight-day homestand on Tuesday, Nov. 26, by hosting Jackson State at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. It will mark UNLV’s fourth and final game in the Southwestern Showdown presented by Engage Telehealth, a multiple-team event played in round-robin format.

UNLV (2-5) opened the 2019-20 season with an 86-71 win over Purdue Fort Wayne on Nov. 5 then dropped three straight games vs. Power 5 conference teams (vs. Kansas State in OT, at Cal in OT and at UCLA) before getting back in the win column against Abilene Christian on Nov. 18. The Runnin’ Rebels have now dropped two straight games, both at home, to Texas State and SMU.

Junior guard Amauri Hardy leads three Runnin’ Rebels averaging in double-figure scoring with 18.0 points per game (3rd in MW), while junior forward Mbacke Diong is the team’s leading rebounder with 10.4 per contest (2nd in MW). In the Runnin’ Rebels’ last game, sophomore guard Bryce Hamilton scored a career-high 18 points on 6 of 11 shooting, including 4 of 6 on 3-pointers. UNLV is under new leadership this year in head coach T.J. Otzelberger.

Jackson State (1-5) lost five straight road games to open the season before recording its first victory of the year on Friday, 72-53, over Southern University at New Orleans, which was also its first home game of the year. Tristan Jarrett leads the team in scoring at 16.7 points per game, while Jayveous McKinnis also is in double figures in scoring with 12.0 ppg and leads the team in rebounding (8.5 rpg).

Tuesday’s game will be video streamed live on the Mountain West Network/UNLVRebels.com with Tony Cordasco and Donovan Stewart calling the action. Jon Sandler, former Runnin’ Rebel Curtis Terry and Steve Cofield (sideline) will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 in Las Vegas and online via the UNLVGameday App and TuneIn.

Better Noise Music is an artist development company that creates and markets entertainment content across various media platforms. Of the band’s recent signing to the label, managers Berko Pearce and Scott Sheldon of RM64 say “It’s exciting to partner with a label that’s at the forefront of marketing in the new streaming era, and that has a proven track record of helping their artists reach bigger audiences.  We’ve been enjoying working with the BETTER NOISE team on an integrated strategy across streaming, touring and radio, and we’re eager to launch AWOLNATION’s next projects with them.”

Aaron Bruno, the songwriter and architect behind AWOLNATION, says of the new single, which will also kick off the new album, “I’m always on the journey to improving myself, but all along, knowing it’s close to impossible to really be the best at anything. And what does it mean to be the best? And does that really matter? Or maybe it is more about the journey and acceptance of comfort within one’s own existence”

The music video for “The Best,” directed by Amalia Irons, also helps to tell the beginning of the new album’s story and introduce one of the main characters. “I wanted to make a video that felt like some of my favorite childhood adventure movies and create something that has a magical feeling of the autumn season,” says Bruno of the video.

Aaron Bruno, the songwriter and architect behind AWOLNATION, wrote and recorded one of the most influential songs of the current decade with the chart-topping, record-breaking track “Sail.” The first single off the platinum Megalithic Symphony (2011), “Sail” is certified Diamond (10 million) and holds the record for the most weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart by an independent artist, the second longest for any artist.

The debut album also produced the Gold certified “Not Your Fault” and two other Top 10 US singles.  AWOLNATION released the sophomore album Run in 2015 and 2018’s follow up Here Come The Runts. Across the span of three albums, AWOLNATION has notched seven Top 5 alternative radio hits, including two No. 1s, and has accumulated millions of sales, downloads and more than 1.5 billion streams globally. The music has been used in dozens of films, television shows and commercials around the world, and songs have been the genesis of viral sensations garnering hundreds of millions of streams and views across platforms like Instagram, Vine, TikTok, YouTube, etc.

About Andrew McMahon
Raised on the East Coast and in the Midwest, McMahon began writing songs at age nine, drawing inspiration from singer/songwriter/pianists such as Elton John and Billy Joel. While still in high school, McMahon co-founded an early incarnation of pop-punk band Something Corporate, whose 2002 major-label debut hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers Chart. In 2004, he formed Jack’s Mannequin and then-on the cusp of releasing the band’s 2005 debut-was diagnosed with leukemia at age 22. Eventually fully recovering, McMahon went on to release two more studio albums with Jack’s Mannequin, in addition to composing songs for the NBC series Smash (an endeavor that earned him an Emmy Award nomination in 2013) and established The Dear Jack Foundation, one of the first Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) specific cancer foundations which advocates for and supports initiatives that benefit AYAs diagnosed with cancer. In 2014, he released Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness which featured the gold certified single “Cecilia and the Satellite.” His television appearances include Today Show, Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live. McMahon lives in Los Angeles with his wife of 10 years Kelly and their daughter Cecilia, for whom the hit song was penned. http://www.dearjackfoundation.org/
