Frizzell is currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma,” a duet with Shelly West which was released in 1980 and reached number one in 1981. Although turned down by countless labels, it was featured in Clint Eastwood’s film “Any Which Way You Can,” providing the boost needed to be heard. Once released, it shot to number one and secured a contract for the duo with Warner Brother Records. The duet was even ranked in CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets in country music, reaching number six.

About David Frizzell:
David Frizzell was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, in 1941. He began touring with his legendary brother, Lefty Frizzell at the age of 12 throughout the 1950s and 60s. After serving in the Air Force, Frizzell signed with Columbia Records in 1970 and charted his first Billboard single with “L.A. International Airport” and then a Top 40 with “I Just Can’t Help Believing.”

During the 1970s, Frizzell appeared regularly on Buck Owens’ All American TV Show and began recording for Capitol Records. In 1981, he recorded his first number-one country hit, “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma,” a duet with Shelly West. The song won the Country Music Association’s Song of the Year and Vocal Duet of the Year awards in 1981, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and was featured in Clint Eastwood’s film ‘Any Which Way You Can.’ Frizzell and West also won the Academy of Country Music award for Vocal Duo of the Year in 1981 and 1982.

In 1982, Frizzell released “I’m Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home,” which made its way to number one.

In recent years, Frizzell created his own label Nashville America Records, and has released several albums including Frizzell & Friends: This Is Our Time which includes a bonus track, written in honor of Lefty Frizzell, Merle Haggard, and traditional music in general. “Lefty, Merle & Me” features David with Marty Haggard.

David Frizzell is a timeless and tireless entertainer who continues to share his many gifts to the delight of fans old and new across the US and throughout the world. In 2020, Frizzell signed a distribution deal with Time Life/Warner Music Group to release his catalog of recordings.

Learning Center Fulfills Dream of Cure 4 The Kids Foundation Patient Janie Bordinhao


Cure 4 The Kids Foundation has announced a first-of-its-kind educational partnership within the State of Nevada to help pediatric cancer patients – and others with catastrophic conditions – advance their educational progress while receiving life-saving treatments.

The Andre Agassi Foundation For Education Learning Center is located in the same building as Cure 4 The Kids Foundation. It will provide patients with direct access to a licensed Clark County School District (CCSD) teacher. CCSD educator Jennifer Morris along with a teacher’s aide will work throughout the school year to assist patients before and after clinic appointments.

Generous funding from the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education will cover the Learning Center’s build-out, operating costs, supplies, educational software and equipment and more.

“The Learning Center is something I’ve dreamed of providing to our patients for years, but we haven’t been in a position to offer it until now,” said Annette Logan-Parker, president and CEO, Cure 4 The Kids Foundation. “Thankfully, some inspired individuals and groups have stepped forward to help us make this happen.”

Through its support of the Learning Center, the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education continues its mission to improve the lives of underserved youth by providing educational opportunities.

“Cure 4 The Kids Foundation does an amazing job of caring for kids with pediatric cancer and other long-term illnesses,” said Julie Pippenger, COO, Andre Agassi Foundation for Education. “The move to add an educational and resource component to their list of priorities while caring for these young patients is just another example of the level of commitment and compassion Cure 4 The Kids Foundation has for these children and their families.  The Andre Agassi Foundation for Education is proud to be a founding partner and supporter of the Learning Center.”

As a CCSD educator, Morris will have access to CCSD curriculum and teaching materials and will offer a full range of educational and support services for Cure 4 The Kids Foundation patients and their families. All educational assistance offered during the Learning Center’s first semester will be provided virtually in recognition of COVID-19 guidelines. Even with those safeguards, Morris will provide virtual one-on-one tutoring, interactive lessons and activities, parental and patient support for the Canvas educational delivery program, and other general education needs.

“At a time when our children are facing so many challenges and hardships in their lives, their schooling shouldn’t be one of them,” said Jennifer Morris, CCSD educator. “Our goal in the Learning Center is to offer our students a balance of educational activities, supports, and a lot of fun so that when they are ready to resume their regular schooling, the transition is smooth and successful.”

Patients will schedule sessions in the Learning Center before or after their clinic visits, as well as during frequent chemotherapy infusions, which can take hours to complete. The Clark County School District is covering the cost of Morris’ salary during the school year.

“This learning center is an important step to ensure normalcy in the lives of our courageous children by providing them and their parents with access to an educator and other resources to assist with their specific education needs,” said CCSD Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara, “CCSD is proud to partner with Cure 4 The Kids Foundation to support our brave students and their families going through this particularly challenging time.”

One of the principal advocates of the Learning Center is Ellen Bordinhao, a retired teacher who spent 33 years with CCSD. Her daughter, Janie, was a Cure 4 The Kids Foundation patient and a teacher, who dreamed of having a position where she could work with children battling cancer. Through her daughter’s 20-month medical journey, Ellen saw firsthand the difficulty families faced addressing their child’s educational needs while also battling a devastating disease. Sadly, Janie passed away on January 15, 2019, but Ellen and her family are determined to have Janie’s legacy live on and benefit other patients. In honor of Janie, a portion of the Learning Center is named Janie’s Classroom.

“Our family is so grateful for the medical care Janie received at Cure 4 The Kids Foundation,” said Ellen Bordinhao. “It’s my job to pay it forward in memory of my beautiful daughter. I am honored to be doing this work.”

The Andre Agassi Foundation for Education Learning Center is a vital benefit for children undergoing treatment for cancer and other long-term conditions. Pediatric patients are unable to attend class while in treatment because their immune systems are compromised, and a typical classroom environment could be life-threatening. As a result, patients often fall behind in their educational studies during the months and years of treatment.

Founding Member Andrew Farriss Recalls Massive Success of Album 


Singer/Songwriter Andrew Farriss celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the multi-platinum selling album ‘X,’ released on this day 30 years ago from the world-renowned band, INXS. Farriss, a founding member of the band, played keyboard and provided backing vocals and other instrumentation. With INXS, he has sold over 60 million records, received multiple Grammy nominations, and an induction into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 2001. ‘X,’ INXS’s 7th studio album, was released on September 25th in 1990.

“I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since the release of the ‘X’ album,” shares Farriss. “As INXS, we knew we had to have the right songs to follow up on the massive success of our previous album ‘KICK’. I love the energy of the ‘X’ album. Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS, released in 2014, gives fans an inside look at what unique star qualities carried INXS from Australian pubs to sold-out stadium tours around the world. The concert was captured by over a dozen film cameras and the original audio and video were simultaneously remastered from the original 35mm film and re-released in 4K UHD and other digital and disc formats earlier this year. The+Source, an award-winning cannabis company in the Las Vegas Valley with dispensaries at 9480 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson, Nevada and 2550 S. Rainbow Blvd., has opened its third dispensary location at 5270 Longley Ln., Suite 103, in Reno, open for curbside pick-up orders now.

The Neon Museum announces Portrait Hour for guests seeking to book time in the museum’s North Gallery amidst hundreds of vintage Las Vegas signs for a personal photo shoot. Guests who book Portrait Hour tickets share the space with other guests while they have a portrait photo session taken by their own photographer. Portrait Hour dates and times are preselected and available to view here.

The North Gallery sits adjacent to the main collection in the Neon Boneyard and offers visitors an array of world-famous un-restored Las Vegas signs such as Lady Luck and the Golden Nugget. The space is ideal for guests looking for a colorful, one-of-a-kind backdrop for their photos.

“Portrait Hour was created to allow fans of the museum to take photos for special occasions or just for fun in front of their favorite Las Vegas signs,” said Dawn Merritt, vice president and chief marketing officer, The Neon Museum. “While we still offer private photography bookings at the museum, this option offers a more affordable way to shoot personal photos in the museum for those who don’t mind sharing the space with other guests.”

Photos taken during Portrait Hour are for personal use only. No commercial retail, fine art or editorial use is permitted without prior written consent from The Neon Museum. The total number of guests allowed during Portrait Hour is 15, which includes the guest’s photographer, assistants and other guests. Redefining the ideals of a world affected by COVID-19, Patriot Artists Agency took a leap of faith in the right direction to bring fans in Middle Tennessee to Ladies of the ’80s,’ a live socially-distanced concert event held on the beautiful estate of the Governor’s Club in Brentwood, Tennessee, Friday, September 18th.

The show featured ’80s powerhouse headliner Taylor Dayne, delivering her smash hits “Tell It To My Heart,” “Love Will Lead You Back”, and “Prove Your Love.” Tiffany and Lisa Lisa transported fans back to tubular times in true social distancing style with “I Think We’re Alone Now,” “Head To Toe,” “Lost In Emotion,” and “Let The Beat Hit ‘Em.” The night was emceed by a DJ who weaved other throwback favorites into the mix between sets and on into the night.

Under the light of the stars and tucked in between rolling hills, the stage was set with temperature check stations and food trucks lining the venue. VIP pods lined the hills with safe distance and passageways between each row. Each entertainer performed their hit singles as fans sang along under face masks and grooved to the beat of the night in their designated areas, separated 8 feet apart.

“I decided it was time to create and adapt and get on with living! I want artists, crew, and of course, my colleagues working again,” shares Patriot Artists Agency Owner, Stephen Brush. Ladies of the ’80s has offered that feel-good social distanced experience that brings people to a happy place safely. Based on this proof of concept being so successful, we are looking to produce 15-20 of these driving range concerts throughout the US for the remainder of the year and then look to produce 50-75 of them next year.”

“When Stephen approached me about the event, I saw an opportunity to demonstrate that live events can return in a safe manner,” said production manager Mark Kocourek. “We were able to implement the CDC guidelines and Event Safety Alliance best practices. We brought in a COVID Compliance Officer to oversee the implementation of temp checks, mandatory masks, and social distancing.  Our detailed plan allowed the audience to safely enjoy a high-quality performance for the first time since March. It was a pleasure to have a great event and prove that our industry can evolve during these trying times.”

This blast from the past experience, masterfully presented by Patriot Artists Agency, stands as a light at the end of the tunnel for the music and entertainment industry. ‘Ladies of the 80s,’ allowed fans to relive simpler times and was designed with strict but easily adhered safety precautions, making future events possible in a similar fashion. New Downtown Las Vegas Pan-Asian Concept to Feature Creative Cuisine, Hip Energy and Rare Spirits

Chef Dan Coughlin will open his highly anticipated pan-Asian eatery 8 East at Circa Resort & Casino  two months ahead of schedule on October 28. Inspired by metropolitan Asian food markets, the dining destination will span Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean and Thai dishes in a hip, high-energy atmosphere punctuated by great music and rare spirits.

“We’ve been working on 8 East’s menu and concept for the past two years, and I couldn’t be more excited to finally introduce it to everyone,” said Coughlin. “When you come to 8 East, you’ll taste a collection of ideas and ingredients I gathered in my travels through Asia that I’ve been testing non-stop over the past several months. 8 East is going to be all about friends, family and fun and we can’t wait to welcome everyone next month.”

A key player in sparking the Downtown food movement with hotspot Le Thai, Coughlin will introduce new fusion dishes and techniques at 8 East that he’s been keeping in “the vault” – previously tested both at his Thai restaurant and at home for family and friends. His menu will be full of shareable dishes that radiate originality and personality such as Coughlin’s Salt & Szechuan Pepper Chicken Wings, Cumin Lamb Lollipops, Brisket Fried Rice and slow-roasted Crispy Pork Belly Bacon. Each will be served with signature Chinese, Szechuan, Chengdu and Thai sauces, amongst others, offering unique flavor combinations for guests to explore.

Boasting an urban contemporary vibe, 8 East’s design will be reminiscent of a modern metropolis, accented with organic and natural design elements. At its entrance, visitors will want to snap a photo of a whimsical wall art installation filled with traditional Maneki-neko waving cats, symbolizing good luck in the Japanese culture.

A Glimpse into 8 East’s Menu:

  • Sharable Small Plates – 8 East will primarily focus on sharable plates with offerings such as the indulgent Crispy Pork Belly Bacon, slow cooked 10 hours before it’s lightly fried and served with a side of tamarind sauce. After a successful test run at Le Thai, 8 East’s Beef Skewers and Chicken Skewers with green sauce will quickly become a guest favorite. The Tokyo Crepe will feature sauteed wild enoki, oyster and shitake mushrooms, fried tofu, cilantro chimichurri, kewpie mayo and soy glaze; while the Pork Belly Bao will include a rich, smoked porchetta paired with pickled cabbage slaw, fresh cucumber, topped with a sweet and sour marmalade.
  • Family Style Dishes – Continuing the theme of social dining, 8 East’s family style dishes will include an array of heartier options for groups. This will include a Five Spice Ribeye seasoned with star anise, cloves, Chinese cinnamon, Szechuan peppercorns and fennel seeds served with butterfall sauce; Brisket Fried Rice and Whole Lobster Fried Rice, both cooked with fresh ginger, garlic, fish sauce, crab paste, green onions and white pepper.
  • Diverse Entrées – Taking a page from Chinese Szechuan cuisine, 8 East’s authentic Dan Dan Noodles will be cooked with ground pork and tossed with Szechuan sesame sauce. The signature 8 East Ramen will combine Osso-Bucco wild mushrooms, a soft-boiled egg, shredded bok choy, Nori and a spicy kimchee mirepoix, topped with a slow-cooked broth.
  • Desserts – To round out the meal, 8 East will serve a selection of desserts ranging from classic creations to creative twists, including Thai Coffee Crème Brûlée, a refreshing Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream and an Asian Tiramisu.

NF Hope Concert Celebrates 10 Years with Virtual Event on Oct. 18


2020 Event Goes Completely Virtual with Performances, Virtual Auction Prizes and “At Home” VIP Packages

Las Vegas’ most prominent entertainers, music lovers and philanthropists will once again join forces against neurofibromatosis at the 10th Annual NF Hope Concert.  In store for 2020, benefit organizers Jeff Leibow, formerly of “Jersey Boys,” and his wife Melody, have decided to embrace the needed trend of bringing their event to supporters virtually.  For the first time, people from all across the US can “attend” the Las Vegas NF Hope Concert on Sunday, Oct. 18 5-7 p.m. pacific time.  The concert can be viewed for free on the NF Hope Concert’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.    For 2020, guests can upgrade their experience with an “NF Hope Concert Watch Party” package, giving them a VIP experience in their living room with access to the show and dinner delivered from a popular local restaurant. Watch Party packages start at $125. The event benefits Neurofibromatosis Network, an organization dedicated to families and individuals suffering from Neurofibromatosis (NF).

Since the inaugural event in 2011, the “NF Hope Concert” has grown by leaps and bounds, with more than $900,000 raised for Neurofibromatosis research and advocacy and growing to three cities – Las Vegas, New York City and Chicago. 2020 hopes to bring the benefit show to more than $1 million raised in 10 years. “We know times in 2020 are challenging, but we owe it to our Neurofibromatosis warriors to keep raising awareness and much needed funds for research and advocacy,” said Melody Leibow.  Hosted by consummate emcee and top radio personality, Chet Buchanan, 2020’s NF Hope Concert features Clint Holmes, Ashley Fuller, John Bayless, Daniel Emmet, Elly Brown and more, along with Jeff and Melody Leibow with a special guest appearance by daughter Emma.

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder of the nervous system characterized by tumors that can grow on any nerve in the body without warning. Leibow’s young daughter, Emma, was diagnosed with this condition in 2010 when she was just nine months old. As Leibow and his wife, Melody, learned more about the disorder’s devastating effects, they conceived the idea for the concert with the realization that they had an obligation to both their family and the 128,000 people living with NF to educate others about the disorder. 2019 was a difficult year for the family with Emma undergoing the second of what will likely be five surgeries necessitated by a tumor in her leg.  Emma’s subsequent surgery was postponed due to travel concerns as a result of COVID. Although it is a common genetic disorder, most people are not aware that one in 2,500 people are born with it making it more common than cystic fibrosis, hereditary muscular dystrophy, Huntington’s disease, and Tay Sachs combined.

Every year, Emma supplies endless optimism and encouragement for Leibow and his wife, filling them with the inspiration needed to make this event a success. “Emma’s resiliency, especially during this pandemic, has been an incredible reminder that any challenge can be overcome,” said Jeff Leibow.  “And as we continue to face the challenges NF lays in our path, Emma’s strength and resiliency and the generosity of this community  not only fills us with hope, but also leaves us truly without words.”   Earlier this year, Emma was supposed to travel to LA for her next MRI (No. 20 in only 11 years of life) to monitor the growth of the massive tumor in her leg and the new brain tumor doctors discovered in 2018, but concerns about COVID (especially in LA) has postponed these necessary scans. “This year has brought a new layer to our concerns to Emma’s NF journey,” said Leibow, “and it is why we will reinvent and adapt however necessary to continue fighting for her and the NF community, and we won’t stop until there is a cure.”

Museums for All to Increase Accessibility of High-Quality Museum Learning Resources

 The Neon Museum announces it has joined Museums for All, a signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM), to encourage people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits. The program supports those receiving food assistance (SNAP) benefits to visit The Neon Museum for a minimal fee of $3 per person, up to four people per party, with the presentation of a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. Similar free and reduced admission is available to eligible members of the public at more than 500 museums across the country.

Museums for All is part of The Neon Museum’s broad commitment to seek, include, and welcome all audiences. Museums for All helps expand access to museums and also raise public awareness about how museums in the U.S. are reaching their entire communities.
