Country Music Hall of Fame, Grand Ole Opry member and southern rock legend Charlie Daniels passed away this morning, Monday, July 6th at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee. Doctors determined the cause of death was a hemorrhagic stroke. Daniels was 83.

Charlie Daniels was a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for his contributions to Southern rock and bluegrass in addition to country. From his Dove Award-winning gospel albums to his genre-defining southern rock anthems and his CMA Award-winning country hits, few artists have left a more indelible mark on America’s musical landscape than Charlie Daniels. An outspoken patriot, beloved mentor, and a true road warrior, Daniels parlayed his passion for music into a multi-platinum career and a spotlight supporting the military, underprivileged children, and others in need. The Charlie Daniels Band has long populated radio with memorable hits such as the signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

Over the course of his career, Daniels received numerous accolades, including becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 2008, inductions into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016. Daniels helped to shine the spotlight on the many causes that are close to his heart. He was a staunch supporter of the military and gave his time and talent to numerous charitable organizations including The Journey Home Project, which he founded in 2014 with his long-time manager, David Corlew, to help veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

Fellow artists mourn the loss of their friend and share fond memories that have left them forever inspired by Charlie Daniels.

It is all so very hard to process right now…We will miss Charlie, but we know where he is… The Everlasting Arms of HIS and OUR Savior hold him now…Until The Day Charlie…Until the DAY…prayers for Hazel.”Joe Bonsall of The Oak Ridge Boys

“One of the best friends, not only a peer, but a true friend. He was one of the most spiritual men. When we got together for a show in Oklahoma, we performed ‘Will The Circle be Unbroken.’ I never will forget that night.”Sam Moore

“What a loss and a shock – we can hardly put this in words. Charlie was such a beloved part of our community! He was a great friend and a fellow patriot. I will always cherish the countless shows we worked together over the decades and our backstage talks. He leaves an immeasurable mark on country and southern rock music. Charlie was a great leader and philanthropist, incredibly humble and one of the biggest supporters of our armed forces and veterans. I loved standing in the wings when he took the stage – he was powerful and magical – he left other artists in awe and every audience on their feet!  We love you Charlie and will forever cherish our friendship.”Lee and Kim Greenwood

“I am very saddened to hear of Charlie Daniels’ passing. I have known and loved Charlie since our early days when he appeared on one of my television specials and l played his Volunteer Jams. Charlie was a strong man who loved his family, fans and country. The music community and the world have lost an old friend.”Crystal Gayle

He cut a wide path in our hearts! We love you Charlie! My prayers are with his family at this time of deep loss. Rest In Peace Charlie.”Deborah Allen

“My heart goes out to Hazel, Charlie Jr. and their family.  I always loved Charlie, and his music.  He was the real deal and one of the great ones.”Lacy J. Dalton

My thoughts and prayers are with Charlie and his family. Rest in peace Charlie and God bless you.“Deana Martin

“What a huge loss not only in the music industry, but in the world. Charlie was simply one of the kindest, most loving patriotic friends I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He loved his friends and country so deeply. I was honored and blessed to perform on his infamous Volunteer Jam. My heart is broken today and I send my prayers of comfort up for his precious family.”Kelly Lang

“It’s hard to imagine country music without Charlie Daniels and the world will never be the same. Thankfully he left a legacy like no other that we can reflect on. You are loved and you will be missed!”Shane Owens

“Charlie Daniels was a music icon, yet every time I played piano for Charlie he made me feel like I was part of the Charlie Daniels’ family.   He loved our country and devoted much of his time to encouraging and performing

for our men and women in uniform.  When my son Torre was in the Army, and he was about to ship out for his first tour in Iraq, Charlie met with Torre before he left, and he prayed with him.  You have no idea what that meant to me.  The devil can stay down in Georgia for all I care, because Charlie Daniels is heaven bound!”  – Tim Atwood

“Rest in Peace to Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie Daniels.  He was one of the true icons in country music and will forever be remembered. Charlie Daniels was a True American.  Country Music has lost one of its finest ambassadors today. Prayers to the family of Charlie Daniels.”J.D. Shelburne

“It truly breaks my heart to hear of the passing of Mr. Charlie Daniels. As a fellow NC native, he was included in the soundtrack of nearly every road trip, bonfire night, and any other occasion! He was an extraordinary musician and such a joy to watch onstage – his spirit for music and performing was truly incredible! His family are in my thoughts and prayers during this hard time. He will truly be missed by fans all around!” Paige King Johnson

“When I was a kid at boarding school listening to my roommate’s Charlie Daniels albums, I had never been exposed to country music, and I didn’t know what I was hearing, I just knew that it grabbed me.  So I transported the feel of it to my rudimentary songwriting on the grand piano in the common room of that dorm, and it has stayed with me ever since.  Classic songwriting and musical authenticity can reach across a culture like nothing else.  Thanks to Charlie for waking a powerful spirit, all over the world.”Carrington MacDuffie

“A pioneer that stood for so many great things outside of music, a true patriot. He taught us all what a fiddle truly was while never being afraid to voice his opinion. He’s going to be deeply missed but his legacy will no doubt live on. Prayers and thoughts are with his family, friends and fans.”Vonn Kiss

Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.

The Las Vegas Coalition for Zero Fatalities is offering $2 off one Lyft ride over the Fourth of July to promote responsible rideshare options to new and existing users partaking in holiday celebrations around town, while supplies last. Impaired fatalities make up 46.9 percent of Nevada’s total roadway deaths, with 442 of those fatalities occurring in Clark County between 2014-2018. “Distill – a local bar is proud to sponsor the Las Vegas Coalition for Zero Fatalities to help further the collective partners’ mission to eliminate impaired driving fatalities on Nevada’s roads,” said Distill – a local bar Marketing Manager Amy Vandermark “As Las Vegas reopens, we can continue to work together to continue the conversation as a community to educate on responsible driving behaviors, celebrate responsibly, prevent impaired driving crashes and ultimately save lives.”

This Fourth of July, new and existing Lyft users can use code LVCZFJULY4 for $2 off one ride from 12 a.m. Saturday, July 4 through 12 p.m. Sunday, July 5.

“This year 99 fatalities have occurred on Nevada’s roadways, 49 of those in March – May, a time when we should have been staying home for Nevada,” said Zero Fatalities representative Andrew Bennett. “This Independence Day, we encourage everyone to make the choice to drive sober and encourage their peers to make that same decision. By working together with Dignity Health, Lyft and our partners, the Las Vegas Coalition for Zero Fatalities is one step closer to the goal of Zero Fatalities on Nevada’s roadways.”

Co-founded by UNLV alumnus, Homie extends partnership with United Way of Southern Nevada to help those struggling during coronavirus crisis stay in their homes

Co-founded by UNLV alumnus, Homie extends partnership with United Way of Southern Nevada to help those struggling during coronavirus crisis stay in their homes

Real estate tech disruptor, Homie gives customers unprecedented savings, simplicity, service

Homie, the number one listing broker in Utah is revolutionizing the real estate industry in Southern Nevada by offering virtual tech solutions and experienced local agents to provide homebuyers and sellers with unprecedented savings, simplicity, and service. Just as Uber and Lyft transformed transportation, Homie is disrupting the real estate industry by combining technology with full-time, experienced local agents for a fraction of the price. While traditional real estate companies charge percentage-based commissions, Homie breaks the mold by charging a flat fee of just $2,500* and still providing a full-service real estate experience – saving home buyers and sellers thousands of dollars in this challenging and tumultuous economy.

In addition to improving the real estate process for local homebuyers and sellers, Homie partnered with the United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) in April to create the Homie Fund to help Las Vegans most impacted by COVID-19 avoid home foreclosure and pay utility bills. Homie started the fund with a $10,000 cash donation. Homie also committed to provide $500 to the Fund for every home bought or sold with the company in Southern Nevada through June and has now extended that commitment through September.

“Finding out my 5-year-old son Benji had cancer again while we were in the midst of a business shutdown and global pandemic was overwhelming,” said Azalea Sanchez, Benji’s mother and recipient of funding from the Homie Fund. “I am so grateful for the financial assistance the Homie fund provided to the United Way of Southern Nevada to support Ayden’s Army of Angels that has enabled us to stay in our home and give us a bit of hope during this horrible time.”

In addition to the UWSN partnership, for those in Las Vegas who were directly impacted by the economic crisis stemming from the government shutdown and need to now sell their homes, Homie will rebate the entire $2,500 listing fee back to the seller at closing.

“Many home buyers and sellers are strapped for cash due to the current economic downtown,” said Homie co-founder Mike Peregrina, who grew up in Las Vegas, attended University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) and has diverse experience in the local real estate market. “Thanks to our streamlined, less complicated real estate process with a single flat fee instead of percentage-based commission, buyers and sellers can save thousands of dollars – now when they need it most.”

“Homie’s tech capabilities and commitment to providing customers with unparalleled service and savings are critically important now,” added Peregrina. “Due to social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus, there is an increased demand for virtual interactions, including virtual home tours and open houses, but people also want to have the expertise of a real estate agent to guide them through the process. Homie can meet both these needs.”

About Homie

Homie is a real estate technology company changing the way real estate is bought and sold by eliminating high fees and commissions. The company simplified an outdated and overcomplicated process through a combination of technology and full-service real estate agent support. Homie is the #1 listing brokerage office in the state of Utah and is growing quickly in Arizona and Nevada. With real estate, home loans, closing services, and insurance, the Homie Tech family is making every aspect of buying and selling a home simple, affordable, and enjoyable. UFC® today announced that former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier has been named the inaugural recipient of the Forrest Griffin Community Award, presented by Toyo Tires®. Named in honor of UFC Hall of Famer Forrest Griffin, the award will recognize a UFC athlete for their exceptional volunteer and charity work and the meaningful impact their efforts have on the community.

Announced earlier this year, the Forrest Griffin Community Award is presented annually as part of UFC Honors President’s Choice category, as the award recipient is personally selected by UFC President Dana White. UFC Honors, presented by Toyo Tires® is the company’s annual awards program recognizing UFC athletes, performances, and moments throughout each year.

As the inaugural recipient of the Forrest Griffin Community Award, Dustin will receive a $25,000 donation to the charity of his choice. All donations are courtesy of Toyo Tires. Dustin will be honored for this award later this year during the 2020 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Toyo Tires®, which will be streamed live on UFC FIGHT PASS®.

“Dustin is a great athlete, but more importantly he’s a great human being,” UFC President Dana White said. “He is a kid who works hard and is passionate about giving back to not only his community, but to those who are less fortunate.”

“We would like to congratulate Dustin on being selected as the first-ever Forrest Griffin Community Award recipient,” Toyo Tires Vice President of Marketing Tim Chaney said. We admire and commend Dustin for his efforts to support his local community and are pleased to donate $25,000 to the charity of his choice.”

In April 2018, Dustin and his wife, Jolie, established The Good Fight Foundation, with the mission of being committed to helping those in need and to fighting to change the world by doing positive things in the community.

Throughout the first two years of the foundation’s existence, the Poiriers have launched a series of initiatives for those in need throughout their hometown of Lafayette and neighboring Acadiana, Louisiana. These programs include annual Thanksgiving food drives, back to school campaigns, and fundraisers to help purchase necessity kits for hundreds of women experiencing homelessness, as well as furniture for local shelters.

Dustin has also utilized his fight-worn UFC Fight Kits, auctioning off his inventory of apparel to raise donations for families of fallen law enforcement officers, and building a local playground for Aaron Hill, a terminally ill seven-year old of Lafayette. Hill, diagnosed with a genetic brain disorder, requested to have a special needs playground built for his friends who attend Prairie Elementary School.

In May 2019, he was awarded with the key to the city of Lafayette by Mayor Joel Robideaux for his work with The Good Fight Foundation and his contributions to the community. Following his most recent fight in September 2019 against UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in Abu Dhabi, Nurmagomedov and Poirier each raffled off their fight-worn UFC Legacy Series Walkout Jerseys, raising more than $100,000 with a direct match from UFC, totaling $200,000 donated directly to the foundation.

The funds generated from this global auction helped purchase hundreds of car seats, which were donated to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital of Lafayette. Later that year, Poirier and his foundation also partnered with former UFC heavyweight Justin Wren’s “Fight For The Forgotten” organization. As part of this joint partnership, Poirier and Wren were able to use the funds raised and the platform to combat the water crisis in Uganda. During the campaign, they exceeded their fundraising goal of purchasing new water wells, and also secured 43.21 acres of land and a solar powered water well to create a more self-sustainable living environment for the Batwa Pygmy Tribe.

This year, Dustin and his team have stayed active in the community with relief efforts associated with COVID-19 by donating more than 1,000 meals to frontline healthcare workers at local hospitals and clinics.  Currently ranked no. 3 in the lightweight division, Dustin is a veteran of 32 fights and has compiled a record of 25-6, 1 NC (18-6, 1 NC UFC) while competing in both the featherweight and lightweight divisions since his debut in 2009.

During his tenure inside the Octagon®, Dustin has become a notable fan favorite by defeating former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway (2), former UFC lightweight champions Eddie Alvarez and Anthony Pettis, as well as winner of season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter® Diego Brandao and winner of season 12 of The Ultimate Fighter® Jonathan Brookins.

Art Island to be Free to Visit When AREA15 Opens to the Public
in September 2020

AREA15, the immersive art and entertainment complex opening this September, introduces Art Island, a first-ever permanent gallery for the exhibition of large-scale, commercially available, festival-style artwork. Featuring original pieces by international art stars such as Michael Benisty, Davis McCarty, and Ivan McLean. Art Island will be free to visit when AREA15 opens to the public.

For urban planners, corporate art buyers and private collectors, Art Island will function as not only a physical showroom, but also a curatorial resource, where prospective clients from anywhere in the world can connect with talented artists. Buyers can purchase work on display at Art Island or commission an original work from one of the represented artists.

“With many popular desert festivals being postponed this summer, the public will soon have a brand-new, ongoing opportunity to engage with the theatrical, interactive artwork synonymous with these events,” said Winston Fisher, chief executive officer, AREA15. “At Art Island, we intentionally created a permanent showcase for these extraordinary pieces. After all, what seems a more fitting, organic home for this sort of spectacle than AREA15—in the shadow of the over-the-top Las Vegas Strip?”

Michael Beneville, chief creative officer, AREA15, and founder and CEO, Beneville Studios, curated Art Island in collaboration with Josh Levine, founder, Fired Up Management. All artwork on view is three-dimensional, monumental in scale and may be viewed as sculpture-in-the-round by visitors, who will discover countless photo opportunities as they explore the individual creations.

“Art Island acknowledges the growing audience for this burgeoning, outdoor art form distinctive for its accessibility and ability to create new art enthusiasts,” said Beneville. “Here, for the first time in an urban setting, will be a place where collectors and lovers of visual culture alike can walk among this monumental artwork in a setting unlike anywhere else.”

Artwork at Art Island includes:

“In Every Lifetime I Will Find You” by Michael Benisty
Through 14 vertical feet of mirrored polished steel, Michael Benisty explores the love between people and across humankind. The couple in this piece stand together, radiating strength and connection, through everything the world – and the weather – throws their way. Their mirrored surface invites you to see the strength of your own love within them, infinitely reflected from your soul to theirs and into the heavens.

About the artist:
Belgian artist Michael Benisty debuted an eight-foot, mirror-polished skull entitled “Die to Live” at Art Basel in Miami in 2012, and has since followed up with pieces that turned a literal mirror on the crowds at Art Basel, Burning Man, and other art festivals.

“Infinity Ship” (No. 1) “Perception” by Matt Elson
Step inside Infinity Ship (No. 1) “Perception” to alter your perception of reality and change the way you see the world. A shipping container reimagined as a kaleidoscopic glimpse into the infinite, this is more than just a killer photo opp. Conceived as a series of mirror-worlds that can traverse the globe by road, rail, and sea, the Infinity Ships will sometimes come together to create full villages of art and reflection, and other times will be mere ships passing in the night.

About the artist:
Matt Elson’s Infinity Box project creates highly imaginative worlds where viewers become the center of a psychedelic kaleidoscope. His work has been displayed across the United States and Europe and featured everywhere from Google headquarters to the Science Museum of London.

“Mechan 9” by Tyler Fuqua Creations (TFC)
A massive robot half-buried in the desert floor, Mechan 9 is a relic from another era—but is it the past or the future? Close examination of its surface reveals secret hatches and mysterious text, heretofore unknown to any scholar. Are they pure decoration, or clues into its mysterious origins? Find the special sticker within AREA15 to decode the text and unlock one of the great secrets of the ages.

About the artist:
TFC is a Portland, Oregon-based collective spearheaded by Tyler Fuqua, who began his artistic career by making giant puppets out of things lying around his house. Alongside fellow builder Jason Hutchinson, he has created interactive pieces including a 21-foot whale puppet, a flaming kinetic phoenix, and a tricycle-powered space worm.

“OMAH” by Alchemy Arts:
OMAH is a wise owl poised to soar above the crowds at AREA15, omniscient in its wisdom and elegant in its pattern of flight. A neon-lit installation on an impressive scale, it serves as an ambassador between the avian and human worlds and reminds us all to connect with our inner bird of prey.

About the artist:
Based in Portland, Oregon, Alchemy Arts has provided design and fabrication services for corporate clients such as Google and Home Depot, and art and music festivals. OMAH is a collaboration between Alchemy artists Fez and Heather B. Gaetz.

“Pulse Portal” by Davis McCarty
Pulse Portal is a 20-foot archway of iridescent light that changes depending on your perspective. The fully modular piece can be put together in twenty different ways and is made from dichroic filters which transform depending on how the light hits them and their position in space.

About the artist:
Davis McCarty’s functionally-integrated architectural sculptures have been installed and exhibited at museums, iconic buildings, and art festivals around the globe including: the Wright Museum of Art, Sears Tower, Union Station, Zhou B Art Center, Burning Man, and Symbiosis. His work is held in the Illinois State Museum public collection.

“El Scorcho” by Ivan McLean:
El Scorcho is a 15-foot tall, fire-breathing dragon said to have emerged from the fires of Mordor in an era sometime between Middle Earth and the distant future. Made from fireproof stainless steel and structural tubing, it is equipped with the latest propane technology and always ready to blast its enemies with scorching balls of molten flame.

“Giant Disco” by Ivan McLean:

The World’s Leading Helicopter Company Unveils New “Family Flight” Tours
and New Health and Safety Protocols.

Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters returns to the sky, accepting reservations for flights over the Las Vegas Strip and to the Grand Canyon – all with enhanced health and safety protocols, including temperature checks, social distancing, face coverings and more. The world’s leading helicopter company is now accepting reservations and will resume flights starting this Thursday, June 11.

“We are thrilled to welcome visitors back to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. In addition to our existing tour experiences, we are launching new ‘Family & Friends’ flights, ideal for guests who would like to fly exclusively with their immediate travel companions,” states Irit Langness, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Papillon. “As with all Papillon tours, ‘Family Flights‘ feature spectacular aerial views of the Las Vegas Strip and the Grand Canyon, while offering a more intimate experience.”

For those guests who elect to drive to Grand Canyon West, Papillon is offering a free Skywalk ticket with the purchase of any helicopter tour. This combination provides a unique opportunity to see the Grand Canyon from different angles, from landing on the Canyon floor to experiencing the world-famous Grand Canyon Skywalk, a 10-foot wide, horseshoe-shaped glass bridge extending 70 feet over the Rim. New “Family Flights” include:

Las Vegas Strip Highlights Family Flight
Guests will begin their experience with a Champagne toast before boarding an EC130 “ECO-Star” helicopter. The adventure continues with a 10 to 12-minute helicopter flight soaring high above the twinkling lights of the city with stunning views of famous landmarks along Las Vegas Boulevard such as the fountains at Bellagio Resort & Casino and attractions which include High Roller at The LINQ Promenade, T-Mobile Arena and Allegiant Stadium. Tours will be available with transportation options for hotel pick-up and drop off.

Golden Eagle with Strip Family Flight
This helicopter tour is perfect for guests in Las Vegas who are pressed for time and desire to see as much of the Grand Canyon as possible. Guests will be picked up from their hotel by limousine and taken to Papillon’s private heliport for departure. The tour includes aerial views of the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, as well as the spectacular West Rim of the Grand Canyon. Guests will be amazed by the majesty, brilliant palette of colors and rugged beauty as they pass through millions of years of geological time. Upon returning from the Canyon, the tour concludes with flight over the beautiful Las Vegas Strip.

Grand Celebration with Strip Family Flight
For this flight to Grand Canyon West, guests will step aboard an EC130 helicopter, designed specifically to enhance sightseeing with fitted floor-to-ceiling windows, headset narration and air-conditioning for ultimate comfort. They will enjoy unparalleled bird’s-eye views of Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, extinct volcanoes and the Colorado River en route to the Grand Canyon.

As the aircraft enters the West Rim, it will begin a breathtaking 4,000-foot descent to the Grand Canyon floor. After landing on Papillon’s private plateau, guests have ample time to explore the surrounding scenery and enjoy a Champagne toast with refreshments. The gorgeous views do not end at the canyon — the return flight to the Las Vegas terminal includes a trip over the glittering lights of the Strip resorts.

These tours require a minimum of four passengers and feature the state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly ECO-Star EC130 aircraft. These helicopters are designed from the ground up with air tourism in mind and feature quiet-technology, a nearly 180-degree field of view and forward-facing, stadium raised seating.

To ensure the safest experience possible for its guests, employees and pilots, Papillon is implementing enhanced cleaning procedures and sanitization for aircraft, transportation shuttles and terminals. Health safety efforts exceed the latest guidance from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and local government agencies and include the following procedures:

  • All guests will be screened for mandatory temperature checks upon arriving at the terminal and prior to entering shuttles at pickup locations. They also must wear masks; they may either provide their own mask or complimentary masks will be available on-site for those who do not have one.
  • All employees and flight crews will wear masks; each employee has undergone extensive training on COVID-19 safety and sanitization protocols.
  • Every morning and evening and before and after each flight or shuttle pickup or drop-off, ground transportation and aircraft will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized using EPA-approved, hospital-grade disinfectant. Extra care will be taken to thoroughly disinfect high-touch surfaces including seating, headsets and seatbelts.
  • Ample ground time between flights will be scheduled to ensure adequate time to thoroughly sanitize and clean cabins. All aircraft are equipped with pre-packaged cleaning supplies to maintain the required standards during the flight. Kits will include gloves, disinfectant and cleaning wipes.
  • Multiple hand sanitizing stations may be accessible inside the terminals.
  • The staff will enforce social distancing practices in common areas and mark queue lines with six feet of distance as recommended by the CDC.
  • Employees will practice contactless introductions during all interactions with guests. Pilots will provide tour narration through headsets, however, the use of passenger microphones during the tour will be restricted at this time. Employees and pilots will regularly wash their hands as directed by the CDC throughout the day.
  • High contact surfaces within our terminals and aircraft, including lobby areas, check-in counters, restrooms, seating, headsets, and seat belts will be cleaned and sanitized continuously throughout the day by trained staff.
  • For tours that include food or beverage service, these will be limited to packaged items and distributed by employees with gloves and appropriate protective equipment.

The Taco Stand – Las Vegas Grand Opening – June 15th

The Taco Stand Takes on Las Vegas

Southern California-grown taqueria brings a taste of Tijuana to Chinatown

San Diego’s staple taqueria, The Taco Stand, will open its first Las Vegas location on June 15, adding to its four existing locations in San Diego, one in Orange County and one in Miami to date. Best known for slinging authentic, Tijuana-style tacos, this family-owned taco haven is a welcome addition to the Las Vegas culinary scene. Housed in a 1,778 square-foot space along Spring Mountain Road in Chinatown, the new outpost will feature the same popular menu items showcased at its other locations.

Co-Owners Julian Hakim and Aram Baloyan are well-versed in what it takes to deliver authentic Mexican food. Both originally from Tijuana, the two restaurateurs grew up eating at a dozen local taco stands on a weekly basis, enjoying fresh grilled carne asada with spicy salsas on homemade tortillas. Hakim says, “In Tijuana, tacos were always the go-to option when someone wanted a quick, but well-made meal.” After moving to San Diego, they quickly realized that finding the type of tacos they grew up enjoying was a challenge that inspired the opening of their first San Diego location in 2013.

“We created The Taco Stand out of a personal need to enjoy a place that served delicious tacos in San Diego,” says Hakim.  “It didn’t have to be anything fancy or flashy, just a fun spot to enjoy some awesome food. The model seems to have worked, and we’re thrilled by the response.”

Staying true to their vision, Hakim and Baloyan have maintained the same street taco stand vibe at all locations, now bringing those coveted taco creations to Las Vegas locals and visitors alike. Popular menu items include their specialty taco; Al Pastor, packed with rotisserie-marinated pork, cilantro, onions, cilantro sauce and pineapple, as well as their Nopal Taco, a vegetarian option crafted from flame-grilled cactus, melted cheese, cilantro sauce, tomato and avocado, both of which are served on made-to-order corn tortillas. Complete with a salsa bar brimming with daily-made salsas, there is a reason The Taco Stand continues to draw lines out-the-door on a daily basis.

The Taco Stand Las Vegas will be located at 3616 Spring Mountain Road, Las Vegas, NV 89102. http://letstaco.com/

Fellow Artists and Friends Remember and Mourn The Loss of Musical Legend Jimmy Capps

Fellow Artists and Friends Remember and Mourn The Loss of Musical Legend Jimmy Capps

Musicians Hall of Fame member and Grand Ole Opry veteran Jimmy Capps has passed away at age 81 due to health complications. After getting his start with The Louvin Brothers, Jimmy went on to become one of the most sought after session players in Nashville. Some of the incredible recordings you can hear Capps on are The Oak Ridge Boys’ “Elvira,” “Sail Away,” Tammy Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man,” Barbara Mandrell’s “Sleeping Single In A Double Bed,” “I was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool,” George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” Ronnie Milsap’s “Smokey Mountain Rain,” and “Legend In My Time,” as well as other artists such as Janie Fricke, Lacy J. Dalton, Andy Williams, Ray Charles, Mac Davis, Moe Bandy, Joe Stampley, Johnny Paycheck, John Conlee and countless more. As a staff member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1967, Capps has remained a solid foundation in Music City and can be seen on Country’s Family Reunion and as “Sheriff” Jimmy Capps on Larry’s Country Diner. Jimmy was not only a musical prodigy, but a friend to many in the music and entertainment industry.

Fellow artists mourn the loss of their friend and share fond memories that have left them forever inspired by the timeless, Jimmy Capps.

“I’m deeply saddened by the news of the passing of my dear friend, Jimmy Capps. Jimmy was maybe the kindest and most considerate person I knew in the music business. A pro’s pro, he played an important role in many of my recordings and every Opry performance we ever played together. Rozene and I send our sympathy and heartfelt prayers to Michele and all of Jimmy’s family.” – Charley Pride

“The NEWS this morning about the passing of our dear friend Jimmy Capps has been devastating. In a time of darkness Jimmy was always a light. Like everyone else in Nashville Jimmy was a part of our music and our career and our lives!!! This will take a while to process… the Oak Ridge Boys will sure miss The Man In Back … Until the DAY” – Joe Bonsall / Oak Ridge Boys

“I have been singing professionally since I graduated from the university over 55 years ago. Jimmy Capps has been a part of my career from the beginning with The Oak Ridge Boys, starting with our gospel days and all the way through to some of our biggest hits. When you hear the guitar intro to “You’re The One In A Million,” that is Jimmy Capps playing. Recently, I went to the Musicians Hall of Fame and saw a display honoring Jimmy Capps. In that display was the guitar that Jimmy played on “Elvira.” My wife, Norah Lee, has sung on the Grand Ole Opry for over 40 years. For most of those years, especially when the Opry was at the Ryman, Norah Lee has ridden with Jimmy and Michelle Capps to work. This is another gut punch for me personally, losing one of my very best friends. I ask that you remember Michelle and Jimmy’s sons in your prayers. Today, there is a hole in the music industry, but Jimmy Capps’ contributions will stand the test of time. Rest in peace, Jimmy, in the arms of Jesus.” – Duane Allen / The Oak Ridge Boys

“When I first came to Nashville Jimmy Capps was already a fixture as one of the great guitar players. I worked with Jimmy many times and I got to know him and his wonderful wife Michele even better these last several years at the Opry. Jimmy was always ready with a smile, a kind word and a great guitar lick. I can’t imagine the Opry without Jimmy Capps. These crazy times are much sadder this morning.” – Crystal Gayle

“I am shocked and very saddened to hear that Jimmy Capps has passed away. He was on 90% of the songs that I’ve recorded and he can never be replaced. He was always one of the most authentic and genuine guys I’ve ever known and has accomplished so much in life. We are all so much better for knowing him. One thing that people will miss is looking over their shoulder and seeing Jimmy there. We will all miss you, Jimmy. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Michele.” – B.J. Thomas

“I will cherish the memories of working so many shows and concerts with Jimmy Capps. I will miss his smiling face. Blessings and prayers to his family.” – Janie Fricke

“I have been blessed to work with Jimmy down through the years. He was a universally loved, Godly man, a double-super cool Nashville cat and you couldn’t ask for a better friend. Sheila and I pray for Michelle and the rest of his family at this time. Rest in peace, pal.” – T. Graham Brown

“Sending our love and prayers to Michele Capps. Just heard of the passing of Nashville musician Jimmy Capps. His musicianship was heard at the Grand Ole Opry, Country’s Family Reunion, and as The Sheriff on Larry’s Country Diner. I’ve sailed many music cruises with Jimmy, and I know he was so honored to be inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame. He was always humble and kind, and will be missed by many. Rest In Sweet Peace Jimmy Capps.” – Rhonda Vincent

“I am heartbroken over the loss of our great friend Jimmy Capps. He was and always will be a country music icon. It was an honor and privilege to work with him and call him my friend. He was such an amazingly gifted musician, sweet spirit, tender-hearted and beautiful soul! I know Jesus has welcomed Jimmy with open arms into his Heavenly home. My prayers are with Michele & the family. Rest In Peace Jimmy. We love you.” – Deborah Allen

“What a way to wake up this morning. I just got the message that Jimmy Capps passed away last night. I lost my sister last week and this feels like I lost another family member now. I can’t believe he’s gone. Sending prayers for Michele and their family.” – Johnny Lee

“Jimmy, was so incredibly talented; his playing came from endless experiences – he always knew “what to play” and always elevated the music – just having him in the room made the music sound better. A sweet, sensitive soul who will be greatly missed.” – Michael Bonagura / Baillie & The Boys

“I loved Jimmy Capps. He was one of my mentors. I played alongside him in the studio and at the Grand Ole Opry for over four decades. Even now, when I close my eyes, I can see him walking through the Opry artist entrance, guitar case in hand. He walked slowly–with purpose. He was there to put on the best show he could. He loved the music. It was his life. He was the best rhythm guitar player I have EVER worked with. He was a perfectionist. As good as he was, he continued to practice and hone. That’s what made him so damn good. You could always count on him to know what to play and where to play it. We shared stories and secrets. There were times he treated me like a brother. There were times he treated me like a son. But every time we were together, he treated me like a friend. R.I.P, James D. Thank you for being such a great teacher. I learned from the best–Timbo.” – Tim Atwood

“I’ll always cherish the memories of any time that I was blessed to share the stage with Jimmy Capps. He is the epitome of a classic country music guitarist and one of the nicest people I ever met. RIP Jimmy Capps – we all love you dearly!” – Shane Owens

“My thoughts are with the family of Opry Legend/guitarist Mr Jimmy Capps. What an incredible legacy he will leave behind. One of Nashville’s most well respected guitarists. I had the honor of meeting him backstage at the Opry last year. He was soft-spoken and so humble. I will never forget asking him “How many times have you played the Opry in your career?” He looked at me and grinned and said “way too many to count ha ha!” – Treasured memory of Jimmy. God bless him.” – J.D. Shelburne

“It absolutely breaks my heart to hear of the passing of Mr. Jimmy Capps. Not only was he a legendary musician, giving so much of his life to country music, but he had a heart of gold. His creativity and talent reached far into so many homes all around the world, from his time spent in the studio to his time spent playing on the Grand Ole Opry. Not only that, but being born in North Carolina towns that were only 20 miles from each other, Mr. Jimmy has always been such an inspiration to me. From the time I was a little girl just starting to get into music, I believed someone like me from a small town in North Carolina could make it because of how successful he was. He will truly be missed, and my thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this hard time.” – Paige King Johnson
