The Helping a Hero Gala raised more than $1 million to fund its programs including new home construction for severely wounded U.S. military veterans

America’s patriot and Grammy award-winning country music artist Lee Greenwood presented and performed at the 2019 Helping A Hero Gala on Dec. 12, where he sang his signature hit, “God Bless The USA” to approximately 1,500 supporters. The gala raised more than $1 million to build adaptive homes for severely wounded U.S. military veterans while also honoring former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, ‘Lone Survivor’ Marcus Luttrell, and entertainer Kathie Lee Gifford.

Greenwood, an enthusiastic supporter of Helping a Hero and a 2017 recipient of the prestigious Point of Light Award from the late President George H.W. Bush, presented The Lee Greenwood Award to Kathie Lee Gifford. This marks his 8th consecutive year attending and supporting the annual gala.

Helping A Hero.org is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan organization that has awarded more than 100 homes for wounded warriors injured in the global war on terror. Funds raised at the 2019 gala, which was held at the Marriott Marquis Houston, will help fund homes in Louisiana, South Carolina, Nebraska, Florida and throughout Texas. Prominent home builders such as Perry Homes, Chesmar Homes, Lennar Homes and MA Partners donate lots and build these adapted homes at cost. Helping A Hero raises funds and works. with our building partners to design the homes so they are specially adapted to the hero’s needs. Most homes include wider doorways and hallways, roll-in showers, roll under sinks and other adaptations to help our military veterans regain their daily independence after suffering combat related injuries.

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg led the Pledge of Allegiance. Both former home recipients of the charity, Retired Army Specialist J.P. Lane sang the National Anthem and Triple Amputee Retired Marine Sergeant Carlos Evans led the invocation.

This year’s Gala was dedicated to two World War II veterans: Dr. Stewart Morris, Sr. who served in the Navy and recently celebrated his 100th birthday and Rex King, the 96 year old Navy Veteran, former Chairman and CEO of Palletized Trucking, and Chairman Emeritus of Helping a Hero.

Deborah Duncan, host of Great Day Houston on KHOU-TV Channel 11 and a daughter of a U.S. Army veteran, served as Mistress of Ceremonies, along with Staff Sergeant Shilo A. Harris, U.S. Army Retired. Harris, who was burned over 35% of his body when an improvised explosive device (IED), exploded in Iraq in February 2007. Shilo received his Helping a Hero home in partnership with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in 2012 and serves as the Advisory Board Co-Chair of the charity.

Retired Marine Capt. Dan Moran, presented The Defense of Freedom Award to Marcus Luttrell, United States Navy SEAL, Retired. Moran is a former home recipient and serves as the Advisory Board Co-Chair.

Congressman Don Bacon, USAF, Retired, surprised SGT Justin Anderson, USA (Ret) with the news that he would be a 2020 Helping a Hero home recipient. Justin is a single amputee and lost his leg as the result of a gunshot wound sustained while he was deployed to Iraq. His home will be built in Congressman Bacon’s hometown of Omaha, Neb. Chairman Emeritus, Meredith Iler, had the pleasure of surprising Retired Army Corporal Sue Downes, that she too would be a 2020 Helping a Hero home recipient. She was deployed to Afghanistan when her humble hit an anti tank mine, leaving her a double amputee. Her home will be built in Houston, Texas. Both of these heroes received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart among other awards and medals.

David Balat, Helping A Hero Chairman of the Board, presented The Patriot Award to Ambassador Nikki Haley. Ambassador Nikki Haley is a leader, a fierce defender of America and a true patriot. Her passion for our wounded warriors and support for our military made her the perfect recipient of The Patriot Award. Previous Patriot Award Recipients include President George W. Bush, General Tommy Franks, Dr. Robert Gates, and Congressman Dan Crenshaw.

The band will return to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for a series of six shows May 5, 7, 9, 12, 14 and 16, 2020.

As always, the upcoming shows will feature The Who’s full live band comprised of guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button, drummer Zak Starkey and backing vocals by Billy Nicholls along with orchestra conductor Keith Levenson, lead violinist Katie Jacoby and lead cellist Audrey Snyder, passionately delivering The Who’s many classics. As well as some songs from The Who’s brand new album, titled WHO, their first full-length album in 13 years, available everywhere this Friday, December 6. The recent single ‘All This Music Must Fade,’ has also drawn praise as “The Who’s defiant post-script” by The New York Times. A recent Rolling Stone feature proclaimed the album a worthy addition to their canon, noting the above-mentioned track and “Street Song,” citing “Daltrey’s anguished vocal” as “among the more moving performances of his career.”

Local symphonies will again be joining The Who for the 2020 shows, putting their indelible stamp on the music’s timelessness in support of Roger and Pete’s trademark emotional power. The 2019 spring and fall legs of the MOVING ON! TOUR generated the most unanimous outpouring of acclaim from critics and fans of any live rock show this year, winning raves across North America for the orchestral dynamic as well as the duo’s cathartic rock firepower and intimate acoustic numbers. “They’re not getting older. They’re getting better. You better, you better, you bet.” hailed the Worcester Telegram, with Pollstar Magazine affirming “Daltrey is in peak form, and so is Townshend, lavishing his trademarked windmill guitar motion.”

Produced by Live Nation, The Who’s North American MOVING ON! TOUR brought the band’s iconic brand of incomparable rock through 29 cities, including a rollicking sold-out barn-burner in Boston’s famed Fenway Park, and a memorable Seattle show where Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder joined them onstage for a rousing version of “The Punk And the Godfather,” with Eddie’s wife and daughter in attendance.  The tour also wound down in grand style, with a series of October shows at LA’s historic Hollywood Bowl, the first time the band played three dates at the landmark venue during one touring cycle.

For more information about The Who’s 2020 dates, visit LiveNation.com or thewho.com.

$1 from each ticket sold for the MOVING ON! TOUR will benefit Teen Cancer America .

THE WHO

The Who are one of the top three greatest rock legacies in music history. Their music provoked explosive change and spanned what many critics declare is rock’s most elastic creative spectrum, with Pete Townshend’s songwriting moving between raw, prosaic, conceptual, and expressively literate. Their visionary sense of stagecraft headed by Roger Daltrey’s soaring vocal prowess is topped off by the band’s blistering rhythm section. With both Roger and Pete delivering their memoirs in recent years (Pete’s Who I Am was released to much acclaim in 2012, and Roger’s autobiography, Thanks A Lot Mr. Kibblewhite; My Story, was embraced by critics in 2018) it’s fitting that the two remaining WHO members have shared their incredible legacy in literary fashion, for few bands have had a more lasting impact on the rock era and the reverberating pop culture than The Who.

Emerging in the mid-1960s as a new and incendiary force in rock n’ roll, their brash style and poignant storytelling garnered them one of music’s most passionate followings, with the legendary foursome blazing a searing new template for rock, punk, and everything after. Inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990, the band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, placing 27 top-forty singles in the United States and United Kingdom and earning 17 Top Ten albums, including the 1969 groundbreaking rock opera Tommy, 1971’s pummeling Live At Leeds, 1973’s Quadrophenia and 1978’s Who Are You.  The Who debuted in 1964 with a trio of anthems “I Can’t Explain,” “The Kids Are Alright” and “My Generation.” Since then they have delivered to the world hits such as “Baba O’Riley,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Pinball Wizard,” Who Are You,” and,” You Better You Bet.”

In 2008, they became the first rock band ever to be awarded the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors. The Who has performed all over the world including global music events for the Super Bowl XLIV Halftime Show in 2010 and closing the London 2012 Summer Olympics. The Who continued their charity work by playing a concert in January 2011 to raise money for trials of a new cancer treatment called PDT. In December 2012 they performed at the Hurricane Sandy Benefit in New York. In January 2014 they played a set on the U.S. television special to support the charity Stand Up To Cancer. In November 2012 Daltrey, with Townshend at his side, launched Teen Cancer America. The charity is now established in the USA, with offices in Los Angeles and devoted Teen Cancer units being opened in hospitals all over the U.S. TCA’s work has impacted over 5,000 young people and their families nationwide during the last six years.

Crystal Gayle Digitally Reissues ‘A Crystal Christmas’

Crystal Gayle Digitally Reissues
‘A Crystal Christmas’

Grammy®, AMA, ACM and CMA award winning country music singer and Grand Ole Opry member Crystal Gayle has digitally reissued her 1986 holiday album, A Crystal Christmas, for the first time ever. Like he did on You Don’t Know Me, Crystal’s son Christos Gatzimos, returned to the studio and remastered his mother’s collection of traditional Christmas compositions for digital release. The newly remastered album is now available at Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play and Amazon.

“I recorded A Crystal Christmas with my producer Jim Ed Norman in the early summer of 1986 for Warner Bros. Records,” Crystal recalled. “To help us get in the spirit we decorated the studio with candy canes and ornaments. This album is filled with my favorite traditional Christmas songs that we all grew up loving and singing. I’m excited that A Crystal Christmas is now available digitally for the first time.”

“When I was a little girl I always looked forward to Christmas. Being the last of 8 children, I loved it when all my brothers and sisters came home to visit. I saved my money all year long so I could buy presents for them. One Christmas I went to Woolworths and bought all my sisters hair nets. The only problem was I bought gray hair nets. I didn’t know you were supposed to match their hair color. I just picked the prettiest ones. I even had money left over for candy!”

A Crystal Christmas Track Listing:
1. “White Christmas” (Irving Berlin)
2.”Oh Holy Night” (Public Domain)
3.”Winter Wonderland” (Felix Bernard, Richard Smith)
4.”I’ll Be Home for Christmas” (Kim Gannon, Walter Kent)

8.”The Christmas Song” (Robert Wells, Mel Tormé)

About Crystal Gayle:
Grammy®-winning singer Crystal Gayle is an award-winning country music icon whose reign in the music business includes 20 No. 1 country hits, six albums certified Gold by the RIAA and the first female artist in country music history to reach platinum sales with her 1977 album, We Must Believe in Magic. Her list of platinum and gold was to be matched only by her awards and accolades. CMA’s “Female Vocalist of the Year,” for two consecutive years, she became a Grammy® Award Winner for “Best Female Vocal Performance,” thanks to her beloved “Brown Eyes” – a song that she today admits she has never grown tired of singing. Crystal swept the Academy of Country Music Awards for three of their “Top Female Vocalist” statuettes. She is the recipient of three “American Music Awards,” voted by the nation as America’s “Favorite Female Artist.” Perhaps nothing sums up Crystal’s career achievements as well as being awarded with a star on the fabled Hollywood Walk of Fame in October 2009. Also famous for her nearly floor-length hair, she was voted one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world by People Magazine in 1983. Gayle also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame near Lynn’s star. In August 2016, the Academy of Country Music honored Crystal with the Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award during the 10th Annual ACM Honors. Gayle was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in January 2017 by her sister and Opry legend Loretta Lynn. In 2019, Crystal released her first new studio album in 16 years, You Don’t Know Me, which was recorded, produced and mastered by Crystal’s son, Christos Gatzimos.

Originally released in 1986 by Warner Brothers Records, the digitally reissued album was remastered by Crystal’s son, Christos Gatzimos

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Announces 2020 Exhibition Schedule

COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME® AND MUSEUM ANNOUNCES
2020 EXHIBITION SCHEDULE

The museum’s 2020 exhibitions will feature Country Music Hall of Fame member Bill Anderson, Martina McBride and Chris Stapleton.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has set its 2020 roster of new exhibitions, aimed at entertaining and enlightening country music audiences and interpreting the ever-evolving story of the music and the people who make it.

The annual exhibition American Currents: State of the Music will return in 2020, to offer insight into the latest chapter of country’s ongoing evolution as a popular art form. In addition, the museum will devote separate exhibits to the lives and careers of Country Music Hall of Fame member Bill Anderson, award-winning powerhouse vocalist Martina McBride and acclaimed artist Chris Stapleton.

“Each of these artists achieved country music stardom in a different era, and each has a compelling story to tell about early exposure to music, about the decision to pursue music as a career and about the struggle to overcome the challenges created by such a decision,” said Museum CEO Kyle Young. “In 2020, we will offer our visitors insight into the life of a Country Music Hall of Fame member who has been writing hits for more than 60 years; a magnificent singer who owns four CMA Female Vocalist of the Year awards; and a singer-songwriter who made his way from small clubs to sold-out arenas and four CMA Male Vocalist of the Year awards.”

Now an annual offering, American Currents: State of the Music will open March 6, 2020. The exhibition represents the ongoing research, analysis, vigorous debate, and yes, even argument, among curators and museum staff to determine the most important developments in country music over the previous year.

The Chris Stapleton exhibition will open June 26, 2020. Before he achieved solo success with the 2015 release of triple-platinum album Traveller and the hits “Tennessee Whiskey” and “Parachute,” Stapleton proved his musical mettle as a songwriter, with more than 150 songs recorded by a diverse roster of artists including Adele, Luke Bryan, Alison Krauss and George Strait. This exhibit will explore Stapleton’s personal and musical influences and his climb to stardom, including his time in the SteelDrivers.

“I’m proud to get to share pieces of our musical journey at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum,” said Stapleton.

An exhibit exploring Martina McBride’s legacy opens Aug. 21, 2020. For more than 25 years, McBride – known for hits including “Independence Day” and “A Broken Wing” – has ranked as one of country music’s most powerful voices. The Kansas native released her major label debut in 1992, and had her first Top Ten single in 1993 with “My Baby Loves Me.” Inspired by forerunners such as Linda Ronstadt and Country Music Hall of Fame members Reba McEntire and Connie Smith, McBride brought a powerful voice and style that set her apart from her peers. In 2019, the Academy of Country Music presented her with the Cliffie Stone Icon Award for her contributions to country music.

“Having an exhibit in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is something I’ve had on my dream list for a long, long time,” said McBride. “Being able to share moments and mementos from my life and career with my fans and country music fans from all over the world is both humbling and exciting. I’m so grateful to be a part of country music.”

On Nov. 20, 2020, the museum will open a special exhibition looking at the life of Country Music Hall of Fame member Bill Anderson. Known for his breathy, conversational vocal style, “Whisperin’ Bill” Anderson has logged 37 Top Ten hits as a recording artist. Anderson has earned more than 50 BMI awards for songwriting. His first success came in 1958, when he wrote “City Lights,” a #1 single for Country Music Hall of Fame member Ray Price. Anderson’s songs have been recorded by James Brown, Kenny Chesney, Jerry Lee Lewis, Dean Martin, and hundreds of others, among them Hall of Fame members the Louvin Brothers, Roger Miller, Jim Reeves, Connie Smith, George Strait, Porter Wagoner and Kitty Wells. In 2005, Anderson and Jon Randall Stewart wrote “Whiskey Lullaby,” recorded by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss. It was CMA Song of the Year, and in 2007, Anderson won the CMA and ACM Song of the Year awards for “Give It Away,” written with Buddy Cannon and Jamey Johnson and recorded by Strait. A Grand Ole Opry member since 1961, Anderson entered the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1975, the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2002 and the New York-based Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018.

“I grew up dreaming of the day they’d put my ball glove into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, but realized many years ago that wasn’t going to happen. But now, knowing that my guitar and maybe a rhinestone suit or two will be put into an exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, more than makes up for it. When our Hall does an exhibit, they really do it up right. I am thrilled to know that I am about to be a small part of their incredible legacy,” Anderson shared.

The museum’s continuing exhibition Outlaws & Armadillos: Country’s Roaring ‘70s, looks at the relationship between Austin, Texas, and Nashville during the 1970s, an era of freewheeling cultural and artistic exchange that skirted the status quo and changed country music. The exhibition opened in May 2018 and continues through Feb. 14, 2021.

Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum and Keith Urban Announce Initial Lineup for All for the Hall Benefit Concert

THE COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME® AND MUSEUM AND KEITH URBAN

ANNOUNCE INITIAL LINEUP FOR ALL FOR THE HALL BENEFIT CONCERT

On Feb. 10, 2020, Urban will bring together a who’s who of performers for a one-night-only Bridgestone Arena concert to support the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s
education programs.

Between periods of the Nashville Predators’ nationally televised home opener against the Minnesota Wild, Keith Urban took to the ice to perform and announce that the All for the Hall benefit concert, presented by City National Bank, will return to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Monday, Feb. 10, 2020. Ingrid Andress, Luke Combs, Lauren Daigle, Brothers OsborneBlake Shelton, Chris Stapleton, Tenille Townes and Tanya Tucker will join Urban for his seventh All For The Hall benefit concert, which to date has raised $3.4 million in support of the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum’s education programs. Additional artists are expected to be named later. Tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at 10 a.m. central time, and can be purchased at LiveNation.com and the Bridgestone Arena box office. VIP ticketing packages, which include premium seating, meet-and-greet opportunities and more, will also be made available.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, through its exhibits and educational programs, shares the ever-evolving country music story, from its folk roots to the present day. Throughout this narrative, the inspiration that artists draw from their musical forbearers is tangible. This exploration of how music inspires and influences later generations of artists led directly to the concert’s theme, All for the Hall: Under the Influence. During the concert, each participating artist will perform a song that was recorded by an artist who strongly influences them, in addition to one of their own hits.

“Ken Burns’ documentary has shown us that we are all very much influenced by our heroes,” said Urban. “So this year’s All for the Hall benefit is our chance to acknowledge those that have been an influence on us and helped shape the artists that we are today. Somehow these shows always seem to take on a life of their own. They’re incredibly fun to do, and you never quite really know what’s gonna happen. So we’ll roll with it and turn Bridgestone (Arena) into one huge club!”

This All for the Hall concert is presented by City National Bank. Ford Motor Company and Mid-South Ford Dealers are the lead sponsors. Contributing sponsors are the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association; Urban is both organizations’ reigning Entertainer of the Year.

This All for the Hall show is produced by Live Nation.

More information about this All for the Hall show and the All for the Hall benefit concert series can be found at www.CountryMusicHallofFame.org

Catch the Legendary TV Host in Action One Last Time
at The Smith Center on Oct. 20

Following more than three decades at the helm of Double Dare’s slime-soaked shenanigans, Charlie Blum Entertainment / CB Entertainment and Red Tail Productions LLC, in partnership with Nickelodeon are happy – and a bit sad – to announce that the show’s legendary host, Marc Summers, will be saying goodbye to Double Dare and its live tour at the end of this year, marking the conclusion of thousands of pies, numerous chocolate-covered chickens and of course, tons of slime!

Double Dare Live! will play The Smith Center in Las Vegas on Sunday, Oct. 20. For tickets and more information, visit TheSmithCenter.com.

Marc Summers summed it up by saying, “Going out on top has always been my goal. I was able to revive the program, both on television and in theaters across the country. ‘Double Dare’ has been a once in a lifetime experience. For over 30 years, I have had an amazing time entertaining a couple of generations. It’s always been important to me to know when to say farewell, and I believe now is that time. But this is not retirement!  I have a new show launching on Discovery, a live one many show, a documentary on my life, and a few other tricks up my sleeve!”

“I want to thank my extremely loyal fan base who first discovered me on ‘Double Dare,’ followed me over to ‘What Would You Do?,’ and continue to follow me in my career and on social media.”

“Double Dare premiered on Oct. 6, 1986, on Nickelodeon, and ran from 1986-1993, making it the network’s longest running game show. Marc Summers served as the show’s original host from 1986-1993. Shortly after its debut, “Double Dare” became one of the most popular original daily programs on cable television. The series went into syndication in 1988 and was later revived as “Super Sloppy Double Dare” in 1989.  The show also ran on broadcast television as “Family Double Dare” in 1988, followed by new versions on Nick, including “Double Dare 2000.”   Nickelodeon launched a successful revival of the show in the summer of 2018 to the great acclaim of the original super fans and a whole new generation of kids.  All new “Double Dare” episodes will air on Nickelodeon in October and December of this year.

The Double Dare Live! national tour launched with the TV revival and has announced tour dates currently through the end of 2019.  Inspired by the iconic TV game show, Double Dare Live! features two teams comprised of selected audience members competing to win prizes by answering brain-bending trivia questions, completing messy physical challenges and ultimately facing the legendary obstacle course.

One of the tour producers Charlie Blum said, “It has been a total joy connecting our live audiences across the country with their TV hero Marc Summers while touring Double Dare Live.  His command of the audience and the messiest game show on tour is mind-boggling and he will be sorely missed.”

Double Dare Live is produced by CB Entertainment and Red Tail Productions, LLC.
