Food Festival Starts Strong with Sold-Out Event at ARIA Resort & Casino

Culinary superstars took over ARIA Resort & Casino last night for the 4th Annual FOOD & WINE All-Star Weekend’s sold out “First Course” kick-off event. 

View Bar, the AAA Five Diamond resort’s main lobby bar, was swarmed with award-winning chefs, sommeliers and mixologists including ARIA’s Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Masa Takayama, Julian Serrano, Shawn McClain, Sirio Maccioni, Marco Maccioni, Anthony Amaroso, Craig Schoettler and Kim Wood; MGM Grand Chefs Joël Robuchon, Steve Benjamin, Claude Le-Tohic, Heather Zheng, Scott Irestone, Steve Barr, Vincenzo Scarmiglia, Heath Cicerelli, Ho Chee Boon and Anthony Schutz; and Bellagio’s Akira Back, Jason Smith, Hiew Gun Khong, Ricardo Murcia and Patrick Lee.

The gastronomic icons took photos and mingled with the guests, while nibbling on delicious selections from ARIA’s extraordinary restaurants. Shawn McClain’s ASage served up Kushi Oyster with aged tequila Mignonette and tobacco pearls; Crispy Meyer Lemon Risotto with whipped triple crème; Braised Veal Cheeks with bone marrow flan and smoked polenta and Absinthe Macaroons for dessert.

Guests raved over the offerings from Julian Serrano’s eponymous ARIA restaurant, including Bomba, a spicy meatball made with Veal & Pork tenderloin; Rabo de Toro, created with Oxtail, Iberian pork and creamy mashed potatoes; and Coca Vegetarian, a Spanish Pizza with aioli, tomato, onion and pisto.

Masa Takayama wowed the crowd with his incredible Sushi Canape made with truffles, Tuna Toro Caviar and Oyster Shooters soaked in cucumber cilantro vinaigrette.

Champagne glasses were filled with 2004 Moet & Chamdon, 2004 Veuve Cliquot Rose and 2004 Dom Perignon. Guests could also try a selection of ARIA’s signature cocktails, including “A Vegas Sunset,” mixed with Grey Goose Cherry Noir, house made grenadine and orange, or a Martini created with Bombay Sapphire, Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth and house orange bitters.

FOOD & WINE All-Star Weekend festivities continue today with Burger Bash at MGM Grand’s Pool, Syrah that Will Change Your Life at Jasmine in Bellagio, Far Niente Dinner with Michael Mina at Bellagio’s Grand Patio and Six-Course Bliss with Joël Robuchon at his eponymous MGM Grand restaurant. The event concludes tomorrow with an incredible brunch at Jasmine, hosted by Bellagio’s vast array of Asian Chefs.

Epicurean dreams can come true with FOOD & WINE All-Star Weekend’s first-ever #VegasFoodie social media contest. World-renowned chefs Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Michael Mina and Julian Serrano will determine the winner of an unforgettable getaway to the fourth annual Las Vegas culinary festival hosted by Bellagio,ARIA Resort & CasinoMGM Grand> Oct. 4 – 6.

Contestants must demonstrate their culinary passion by submitting testimonials as to why they are the ultimate foodie via their favorite social media platform with the official sweepstakes hashtag #VegasFoodie. Entries are welcomed beginning Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 and the contest will run through Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013. The winner will be notified Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 by MGM Resorts International.

Submissions can range from a six-second cooking demonstration on Vine; an incredible food collage on Instagram; a unique Twitter campaign rallying recommendations from followers; or even a work of culinary art posted to Facebook. Entries will be reviewed by the esteemed panel of award-winning chefs, who will select the most creative and innovative testimonial.

The winner will receive a two-night stay Oct. 4 – 6 at the iconic Bellagio or MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He or she will then get to experience true gastronomical excellence with a pair of tickets to three of FOOD & WINE All-Star Weekend’s premier events, including:

ARIA: First Course Kick-Off
Guests are invited to sample delectable appetizers from ARIA restaurants barMASA, Julian Serrano and Sage at the weekend’s official kick-off party at ARIA’s View Bar. Overlooking the resort’s luxurious pool, this memorable event will be a highlight of the weekend.

MGM Grand: Burger Bash
Guests will need a big appetite at FOOD & WINE All-Star Weekend’s newest event, Burger Bash. Hosted poolside at MGM Grand, 10 of the resort’s restaurants will serve delicious burgers and unique sides as upbeat tunes play throughout the evening. Attendees are encouraged to try a burger from all participating chefs to see which suits their palate. Celebrity judges, including Chef Joël Robuchon and Chef Michael Mina, will determine the ultimate Burger Bash winner.

An Executive Chef’s Culinary Classroom is a series of interactive cooking classes led by Bellagio Executive Chef Edmund Wong. During each two-hour session held in Tuscany Kitchen, the AAA Five Diamond resort’s state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen, Wong and his talented team guide students through the preparation of a three-course meal including an appetizer, entrée and dessert. Beer & BBQ Secrets: Saturday, July 6 at noon
Beer & BBQ Secrets is an intimate beer pairing luncheon hosted by Smith and held in Tuscany Kitchen. The upbeat and interactive event invites guests to relax and enjoy the fresh, smoky flavors of the season with a three-course meal prepared by Wong and beer pairings presented by Bellagio Assistant Director of Beverage Ricardo Murcia. Louis Roederer Champagne and Le Cirque: Saturday, Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m
