Sitting at an elevation of more than 8,000 feet, the comparatively tranquil North Rim gets just one-tenth of the visitation of the South Rim and is known for its recreational activities including hiking trails, mule rides and exploring the local flora and fauna.

As a part of this scenic spot since 1928, the Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, open seasonally from May 15 – Oct. 15, sits just above the canyon with a variety of cabin and motel room choices and dining options.

Cabins at the Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim sit close to the rim, while motel rooms are located within a short walking distance from the lodge. Accommodations offered at the Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim include the following:

All rooms include ceiling fans, standard-view and rim-side views.

The Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim offers several dining choices from quick bites to restaurant options:

  • The Main Lodge Dining Room is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and includes regional dishes as well as cuisine from the 1930s. Offering the freshest and healthiest ingredients, the Main Lodge Dining room serves free-range poultry products, observes the Monterey Seafood Watch program for seafood offerings and serves organic salad greens and pasta.

ABOUT GRAND CANYON LODGE – NORTH RIM
Grand Canyon Lodge – North Rim is the only lodging inside the National Park on the North Rim. Located at Bright Angel Point, the Lodge was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. The original Lodge was constructed in 1928 and burned in 1932. The current Lodge was rebuilt in 1937 using as much of the original structure as possible. Here guests may enjoy the quiet serenity of the North Rim while enjoying comfortable guest rooms and cabins.  Our cabins were constructed in the 1930’s and 1940’s.  While restrooms and showers have since been added, these cabins retain their original rustic charm.  To this day, not one of the cabins has a television or radio. The Lodge Dining Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. It features regional cuisine; all-natural beef and poultry products are antibiotic and hormone free and the wine list showcases American organic selections available by the glass. Meanwhile the Gift Shop purveys Grand Canyon souvenirs, clothing and accessories. Free self-parking, bus, truck and RV parking are available. LEGENDARY ROCK BAND THE WHO ANNOUNCE SIX SHOWS AT THE COLOSSEUM AT CAESARS PALACE IN MAY

LEGENDARY ROCK BAND THE WHO
ANNOUNCE SIX SHOWS AT THE COLOSSEUM
AT CAESARS PALACE MAY 5 – 16, 2020

Legendary rock band The Who have announced they’ll be moving on in 2020 with more tour dates. Not quite ready to close the books on their acclaimed MOVING ON! TOUR, singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist/songwriter Pete Townshend pair with local symphony orchestras across North America for a once-in-a-lifetime rock experience, as hailed by critics. The band will return to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for a series of six shows May 5, 7, 9, 12, 14 and 16, 2020.

Tickets starting at $69 go on sale to the general public starting Friday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. PST at ticketmaster.com or in-person at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace box office. The Who fan club members will have access to a presale beginning Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. PST.

Citi is the official presale credit card for The Who’s MOVING ON! TOUR. As such, Citi cardmembers will have access to purchase presale tickets beginning Monday, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. PST through Citi EntertainmentSM. For complete presale details visit www.citientertainment.com.

In addition, Caesars Rewards members, Caesars Entertainment’s loyalty program, as well as Live Nation and Ticketmaster customers will have access to a presale beginning Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. PST. All presales end Thursday, Dec. 12 at 10 p.m. PST. All shows are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., with the exception of the show on May 16, which will begin at 9:30 p.m.

As always, the upcoming shows will feature The Who’s full live band comprised of guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button, drummer Zak Starkey and backing vocals by Billy Nicholls along with orchestra conductor Keith Levenson, lead violinist Katie Jacoby and lead cellist Audrey Snyder, passionately delivering The Who’s many classics. As well as some songs from The Who’s brand new album, titled WHO, their first full-length album in 13 years, available everywhere this Friday, December 6. The recent single ‘All This Music Must Fade,’ has also drawn praise as “The Who’s defiant post-script” by The New York Times. A recent Rolling Stone feature proclaimed the album a worthy addition to their canon, noting the above-mentioned track and “Street Song,” citing “Daltrey’s anguished vocal” as “among the more moving performances of his career.”

Local symphonies will again be joining The Who for the 2020 shows, putting their indelible stamp on the music’s timelessness in support of Roger and Pete’s trademark emotional power. The 2019 spring and fall legs of the MOVING ON! TOUR generated the most unanimous outpouring of acclaim from critics and fans of any live rock show this year, winning raves across North America for the orchestral dynamic as well as the duo’s cathartic rock firepower and intimate acoustic numbers. “They’re not getting older. They’re getting better. You better, you better, you bet.” hailed the Worcester Telegram, with Pollstar Magazine affirming “Daltrey is in peak form, and so is Townshend, lavishing his trademarked windmill guitar motion.”

Produced by Live Nation, The Who’s North American MOVING ON! TOUR brought the band’s iconic brand of incomparable rock through 29 cities, including a rollicking sold-out barn-burner in Boston’s famed Fenway Park, and a memorable Seattle show where Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder joined them onstage for a rousing version of “The Punk And the Godfather,” with Eddie’s wife and daughter in attendance.  The tour also wound down in grand style, with a series of October shows at LA’s historic Hollywood Bowl, the first time the band played three dates at the landmark venue during one touring cycle.

For more information about The Who’s 2020 dates, visit LiveNation.com or thewho.com.

$1 from each ticket sold for the MOVING ON! TOUR will benefit Teen Cancer America .

THE WHO

The Who are one of the top three greatest rock legacies in music history. Their music provoked explosive change and spanned what many critics declare is rock’s most elastic creative spectrum, with Pete Townshend’s songwriting moving between raw, prosaic, conceptual, and expressively literate. Their visionary sense of stagecraft headed by Roger Daltrey’s soaring vocal prowess is topped off by the band’s blistering rhythm section. With both Roger and Pete delivering their memoirs in recent years (Pete’s Who I Am was released to much acclaim in 2012, and Roger’s autobiography, Thanks A Lot Mr. Kibblewhite; My Story, was embraced by critics in 2018) it’s fitting that the two remaining WHO members have shared their incredible legacy in literary fashion, for few bands have had a more lasting impact on the rock era and the reverberating pop culture than The Who.

Emerging in the mid-1960s as a new and incendiary force in rock n’ roll, their brash style and poignant storytelling garnered them one of music’s most passionate followings, with the legendary foursome blazing a searing new template for rock, punk, and everything after. Inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990, the band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, placing 27 top-forty singles in the United States and United Kingdom and earning 17 Top Ten albums, including the 1969 groundbreaking rock opera Tommy, 1971’s pummeling Live At Leeds, 1973’s Quadrophenia and 1978’s Who Are You.  The Who debuted in 1964 with a trio of anthems “I Can’t Explain,” “The Kids Are Alright” and “My Generation.” Since then they have delivered to the world hits such as “Baba O’Riley,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Pinball Wizard,” Who Are You,” and,” You Better You Bet.”

In 2008, they became the first rock band ever to be awarded the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors. The Who has performed all over the world including global music events for the Super Bowl XLIV Halftime Show in 2010 and closing the London 2012 Summer Olympics. The Who continued their charity work by playing a concert in January 2011 to raise money for trials of a new cancer treatment called PDT. In December 2012 they performed at the Hurricane Sandy Benefit in New York. In January 2014 they played a set on the U.S. television special to support the charity Stand Up To Cancer. In November 2012 Daltrey, with Townshend at his side, launched Teen Cancer America. The charity is now established in the USA, with offices in Los Angeles and devoted Teen Cancer units being opened in hospitals all over the U.S. TCA’s work has impacted over 5,000 young people and their families nationwide during the last six years.

Upon arrival, parents will receive complimentary treats for their canine with a map of relief areas as well as information on doggie concierge services and other amenities such as dog bowls and dog mats.

When Fido’s human companions are ready to enjoy the many experiences throughout MGM Resorts’ properties, they need not worry about leaving their pooch behind, with a selection of services including:

  • Check In and Check Up: A doggie concierge will check in on pups while guests are away and send a text message with photo confirmation. The cost for this service is $25.
  • Dog Walking: Each resort’s concierge is happy to arrange dog-walking services for Fido through a preferred service provider.

The MGM Resorts dog program is limited to two dogs per room with a maximum combined weight of less than 100 pounds. Dogs cannot be left unattended in rooms at any time unless placed in a kennel or carrier and must be fully housetrained. Outside of rooms or suites, dogs must always be kept on a leash.

Dog-friendly rooms and suites at MGM Resorts properties are available for an upgrade of $50-$175 per day, per dog, depending on the property and can be reserved by going to MGMResorts.com/dog or by calling 1.855.788.6775.

SAHARA Las Vegas officially debuts on the Las Vegas Strip

SAHARA Las Vegas officially debuts
on the Las Vegas Strip

$150 million transformation of iconic resort continues under new name

SAHARA Las Vegas has officially returned to the Las Vegas Strip.

The former SLS Las Vegas will now operate under the resort’s original, iconic brand name – SAHARA Las Vegas. Since Alex Meruelo purchased the property in April of last year, significant strides have been made in transforming the resort experience. Completed renovations within the $150 million resort overhaul include an updated casino floor featuring the stylish 24-hour CASBAR Lounge and the recently unveiled Infinity premium gaming lounge, renovated hotel rooms, suites and corridors, an upgraded spa and a soon-to-debut new hotel lobby. Major updates to the resort exterior continue as remodeling of the main porte cochère began earlier this week while a full renovation of the resort’s main pool is slated for later this fall. Additional updates include a refresh and new paint color for the building’s exterior along with soon-to-be installed marquee signage and lettering signaling the name change.

“The return of SAHARA Las Vegas to The Strip is significant for the city,” said Alex Meruelo, SAHARA Las Vegas owner. “The reimagining of this iconic resort will enable an enhanced guest experience that runs contrary to the megaresorts that have recently dominated the Las Vegas landscape. At SAHARA Las Vegas, guests will be greeted with a warm, customized experience set within a fully modern, dynamic resort. We know guests come to Las Vegas to create memories, and we plan to help them do just that in a beautifully curated, intimate resort experience with personalized services that make everyone feel special.”

Now, nearly a year into the resort’s more than $150 million transformation, guests can expect even further additions and upgrades to the property’s physical structure and guest amenities. Anticipated enhancements to the resort’s award-winning culinary program include the addition of the popular Philadelphia Eagles restaurant partner Chickie’s and Pete’s as well as soon-to-be-announced, new-to-Las Vegas fine dining concepts. Further additions will be made to the property’s entertainment and nightlife lineup. Announcements regarding these changes will be made in the coming months.

Hotel
Debuting this fall, the new hotel lobby will offer top-tier guest amenities featuring state-of-the-art hotel registration systems and a well-appointed lounge. The exquisite modern design, with just a touch of nostalgia, includes floor inlays inspired by lamps from the original Sahara Hotel and Casino. A Starbucks will also open near registration this fall offering guests an assortment of specialty coffees and pastries.
Additional hotel enhancements include the redesign of the Blanca and Marra towers, which offer guests fully remodeled rooms as well as updated elevator lobbies and room corridors. Upgrades to the AAA Four Diamond Alexandria Tower include room enhancements and new services at the Amina Spa. The Alexandria Tower also offers a private valet entrance and dedicated hotel check-in.

Casino
The 60,000 square-foot casino floor received a remodeled design creating a bright, modern atmosphere with glamorous touches, a finished ceiling with upgraded lighting and new carpeting along with a new slot and table game layout. The addition of the stylish, 24-hour CASBAR lounge offers guests a selection of craft cocktails and inviting seating areas right off the casino floor, while Infinity, a sophisticated premium gaming lounge, appeals to the resort’s more serious gamers seeking a luxurious high-limit gaming experience. A new poker room, off the main casino floor, is expected to open later next year.

Pool & Nightclub
Following the end of the summer season, the main resort pool will close this fall. Nothing will be left untouched as the entire pool deck will receive a complete overhaul to create a new and compelling pool experience. The year-long project will also include the addition of a two-story 18,500 square-foot combination nightclub, lounge and theatrical space which will sit adjacent to the main pool.

“We could not be more excited to begin operating as SAHARA Las Vegas,” said Paul Hobson, senior vice president and general manager of SAHARA Las Vegas. “We have been busy making changes to enhance the guest experience and create a resort that our guests and team members can all enjoy. It feels good to debut our efforts under a name that is beloved by so many.”

These changes and more are encapsulated in a series of renovations to the boutique Strip resort that will continue well into 2020. SAHARA Las Vegas features 1,615 guest rooms, more than 95,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and a collection of entertainment venues, lounges, three distinctive pools, the luxurious Amina Spa and acclaimed restaurants, including the award-winning BAZAAR Meat by José Andrés. This tranquil, tropical attraction contains a variety of fascinating animals that are carefully maintained. More than 50 species can be found as they frolic on islands and streams surrounded by sparkling waterfalls and foliage. Spot hummingbirds zipping to their feeders, snap a few pictures of signature flamingos and watch the water animals at feeding time. The habitat is home to 10 namesake Chilean flamingos, 60 exotic birds, 20 turtles and more than 300 large fish residing throughout the islands and within the streams. A number of these captivating animals were rescued from harmful environments and brought to the habitat where they continue to thrive. The Flamingo Wildlife Habitat spans approximately four acres with 400,000 gallons of fresh water filling the nine ponds.

This free attraction is open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. The Flamingo Wildlife Habitat is accredited by the Zoological Association of America and is a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Association. Pelican feedings are daily at 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
