Tropicana Las Vegas will Light the Exterior of the Resort Pink to Kick Off
a Month-Long Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
Benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure® of Southern Nevada

The all new Tropicana Las Vegas has partnered with Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to launch ‘Pink October,’ its first ever breast cancer awareness campaign, in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Friday, September 30, Tropicana will ‘flip the switch,’ lighting the resort pink in celebration of the month-long campaign to raise awareness and funds for the non-profit organization, marking the first time a property on the Strip has committed to the non-profit for the entire month of October.
 
“When Tropicana Las Vegas approached us, we were amazed by the enthusiasm, creativity and willingness to get involved,” said Stephanie Kirby, executive director of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. “To light an entire building on the Strip pink is an amazing gesture and will be a great way to kick off the month. We are grateful for Tropicana’s generosity and hope that the community will come out to support us.”

Komen for the Cure®. Tropicana will also host an array of special events to raise funds for the foundation’s breast health programs and breast cancer research including ‘Fashionably Pink,’ which will feature an evening of shopping, sweets, and pink cocktails at Nikki Beach Club, and ‘Wine and Dine for the Cure’ at Bacio by Carla Pellegrino which will present a night of delicious food, specialty cocktails, and acoustic guitar at the resort’s Italian ristorante, to name a few.

The 11th Annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational (MJCI), hosted by ARIA Resort &Casinoat Shadow Creek, returns to Las Vegas for the second consecutive year March 29-April 1, 2012. Tickets are now on sale for one of celebrity golf’s most popular events, giving fans the opportunity to watch four days of competition with some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment.

The first of two rounds of the Celebrity-Amateur tournament, which pairs one celebrity with four amateur participants, will take place Thursday, March 29 at Shadow Creek. The final round of the Celebrity-Amateur will take place Friday, March 30.

The MJCI two-person, 36-hole scramble format tournament begins Saturday, March 31 and includes only the competing celebrities. The second and final round of the MJCI will be played Sunday, April 1. Additional festivities and special events surrounding the Saturday and Sunday competition, as well as celebrity participants, will be announced in the near future.

 The 3rd Annual Cards for Kids Under the Stars Casino Night is set for Sunday, September 18th from 5p.m. – 10 p.m. at the Artisan Hotel Boutique in
support of the Nevada-based, Children’s Heart Foundation.
Cards for Kids Under the Stars Casino Night is an exciting evening of gaming,
music, food, drinks, and a silent auction. A $20 buy-in receives $100 in gaming

Fundraising Opportunity with Home Game Tickets

The two-time defending United Football League (UFL) champion Las Vegas Locomotives (Locos) continue to reach out to the Las Vegas community by offering local nonprofit groups a fundraising opportunity with home game tickets during the 2011 season.

All nonprofit organizations can now buy $20, $15 or $10 home game tickets at half price, plus a $1 facility fee, and the groups can then resell the tickets at face value to raise proceeds for their organizations. To purchase tickets, nonprofit members can call 702.877.LOCO.

The Locos will play three home games at Sam Boyd Stadium during the 2011 season. The home opener is against the Omaha Nighthawks on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. The Locos next home game will come on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. when they face the Sacramento Mountain Lions. Finally, they will close out the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. against the Virginia Destroyers.

Each home game will be a fun-filled experience both on and off the football field. A team-sponsored Fan Fest will be held before every home game where fans will have the opportunity to enjoy food and games and interact with the Locomotion dance team. During each game, there will be on-field activities before kickoff and during halftime where fans will have the chance to win great prizes. Additionally, each game will have a designated theme to enhance the fan experience from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. Coaches and players will be available after all home games for autographs and pictures.

This September, Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino will collect donations in its fountain for Shriners Hospitals for Children in honor of the 2011 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Despite some promising discoveries, the cause of autism is unknown and a cure does not exist. Research is crucial. Every 15 minutes another child is diagnosed with autism. Not only must we find ways to improve the quality of life for children and adults with autism, but we also must fin a cure, and soon.

Last year’s participants included FIRST Food & Bar, B & B Ristorante, Country Club, Carnevino, Mon Ami Gabi, Tenaya Creek, Gallaghers and the winner with 117 oysters, Mastro’s. This year’s participants will be announced closer to the event and Santa Monica Seafood will be donating all the oysters and appetizers to raise money for charity. Blue Moon, Oyster Bay, Drifter Pale Ale and Ultimat Vodka are also pitching in to make this fundraising event a success.

The event will see the return of X1075’s Dave and Mahoney as emcees and the Las Vegas Locos cheerleaders will lend their pompoms to judging this fun, culinary themed event.

WHAT:  Kicking off Labor Day weekend and restaurant week…FIRST is hosting the third annual Shuck & Swallow event – a charity event that finds Vegas’ top chefs in a battle to see who can shuck and swallow the most oysters within 8 minutes. The winner will receive a Shuck & Swallow trophy…and of course bragging rights.

High School Students Take Center Stage this Fall

 

IHOBF OFFERS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS A CHANCE TO COMPETE ON STAGE AT HOUSE OF BLUES LAS VEGAS

This fall, high school students can take the stage and bring down the house as part of the International House of Blues Foundation (IHOBF) Bringin’ Down the House musical competition. Offered as part of IHOBF’s Action for the Arts initiative, this event creates opportunities for youth to perform onstage at House of Blues, to pay tribute to blues and blues-inspired music, and to support local youth arts programs.

“This competition is an outstanding opportunity for youth from our community to showcase their talent,” said IHOBF Program Manager Laura Clark.  Bands, musical groups and solo performers selected to perform will compete on stage at House of Blues Las Vegas in October.

Open to high school students enrolled in grades 9-12, Bringin’ Down the House will link today’s young performers with their musical roots.

 

“This is more than a competition – we’re really paying tribute to some of the great musical innovators and innovations that have contributed to the development of blues and blues-inspired music,” said IHOBF Program Manager Laura Clark. “Blues has influenced so many genres, from jazz to gospel, soul, funk, rhythm and blues, rock, rap, and hip hop.”

BOULDER CITY HOSPITAL FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES FEATURED ARTIST FOR ITS
49TH ANNUAL ART IN THE PARK EVENT – October 1 & 2, 2011

Jennifer Main has been named Featured Artist for the Boulder City Hospital Foundation’s 49th Annual Art in the Park event. Main’s unique style is instantly recognizable for her whimsy and fearless use of vibrant color. “My favorite subjects to paint are my own characters which I create in my mind,” Main says. “I often use them to express a positive message about an aspect of life’s complex journey.”

As a young girl Main discovered she had a strong passion for painting. She began selling her work in galleries at the age of 17 and quickly became one of the top selling artists within the galleries. With growing confidence, hard work, and determination she experienced 13 years as a successful full-time artist. Main’s work is shown in galleries nationally and is available locally at her Las Vegas gallery. Main’s popularity continues to grow worldwide as collectors and fans are drawn to her vibrant art. You can view Jennifer’s work in booth #179 at this year’s Art in the Park event taking place October 1st and 2nd, 2011.

Art in the Park is one of the largest outdoor juried art festivals in the Southwest. The event features more than 320 original artists in the fine art, fine/contemporary craft and traditional craft categories. The festival is Boulder City Hospital Foundation’s signature fundraising event. Proceeds from the event benefit the Boulder City Hospital.

Art in the Park is free to the public, and although Boulder City’s population is just over 16,800, the event draws over 100,000 visitors. The event takes place in beautiful downtown Boulder City, free parking is available throughout the city. Paid parking is available in the old Boulder City Airport parking lot with complimentary shuttle service taking visitors to the event.

EPICUREAN CHARITABLE FOUNDATION CONTINUES CLOTHING AND LAPTOP DRIVE FOR STUDENTS THROUGH AUGUST

Epicurean Charitable Foundation Las Vegas (ECFLV) is continuing to accept donations of new and gently used laptops and new professional business attire for students the entire month of August before the 2011 fall semester begins.

While ECFLV offers financial assistance through scholarships, many of these students do not have the resources to purchase laptops and other necessities, such as appropriate attire for professional networking functions.

“The majority of students within our scholarship program do not have their own computer, or even professional attire to wear to a job interview,” said Kevin Dimond, president of the Epicurean Charitable Foundation. “While our program provides funding for tuition, books and fees; there is still much more that our students need to be successful. Plus, this is an opportunity for our community to come together to help benefit the education of these bright, young students.

Sting Systems, a local leading provider of advanced security and monitoring systems, is donating services to repair and uncover any operating system issues, remove viruses and spyware, and optimize all student laptops for improved performance.

ECFLV will collect laptops and new professional business attire donations for the month of July at the following locations in the Las Vegas Valley. Any remaining clothing and laptops will be re-donated to other children’s and educational foundations by the Epicurean Charitable Foundation.

Yesterday, donned in scarves made by Opportunity Village, the “Official Elvis of Las Vegas” Jesse Garon and MobileMinister.com Elvis Roland August kicked off the ‘For the Love of Art’ fundraiser at Fremont Street Experience put on by Flightlinez zipline ride, benefitting Opportunity Village. The event featured the beautiful scarves made by citizens of Opportunity Village, along with baked goods from their culinary program that were all for sale. Emergency Arts also provided artwork for sale and had demonstrations by live artists throughout the day.

The connection to Elvis? Many people don’t know that Opportunity Village made every scarf that Elvis gave away from the stage as well as other items for the King of Rock and Roll. Full story below!

The event hosted more than a thousand riders and raised just under $20,000 for the charity. Flightlinez has been doing monthly charitable events since February, giving back more than $125,000 to local charities.

WHAT:
Flightlinez and the Fremont Street Experience will hold an event to fund arts programs at Las Vegas’ own Opportunity Village where 100% of proceeds from a day of zipline rides will be donated to the charity. For the Love of Art will be a daylong event feature an art fair by citizens of Opportunity Village and local artists with Emergency Arts. All proceeds from zipline rides and a portion of proceeds from the art work sold will benefit the Art Enrichment Program of Opportunity Village. The art program includes Fine Art, Music, Dance, and Theater. The charity’s signature cookies will also be for sale, freshly made by the campus’ Culinary Training Program.
In addition to traditional artwork, scarves made by the Art Enrichment Program will also be on display. There is a great Opportunity Village connection with Elvis Presley that many people don’t know…In the late ’60s Elvis Presley’s manager, Colonel Parker, came to Opportunity Village for a tour and noticed that the citizens in the Employment Resource Center were working on sewing contracts. Colonel Parker then contracted the charity to sew all of Elvis’ scarves that he would kiss and throw out to his audience. Opportunity Village soon became the “official manufacturer of the Elvis Presley Scarves.”Every scarf that Elvis gave away from stage came from Opportunity Village and were shipped to Elvis across the world. Elvis himself even visited the charity. Additionally, Opportunity Village made all of the “Elvis Live at the Hilton” promotional buttons and the ribbons that were on the hound dogs sold at the Elvis performances and in his gift shop at the Las Vegas Hilton. The Art Enrichment Program at Opportunity Village, makes scarves using silk as a medium for artistic expression and their many special artists have created beautiful scarves at Opportunity Village ever since.
Scarves range from $15 to $300 and will also be part of the art display during the event.

Flightlinez and Fremont Street Experience are committed to serving the Las Vegas community by hosting charitable fundraisers throughout the year. In June, Flightlinez and the Fremont Street Experience donated nearly $18,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas and have donated more than $100,000 to local charities and community groups since launching the new charitable initiative in February.
