hand-crafted cocktails in a high-energy environment

 

The Palazzo® Las Vegas introduces Electra Cocktail Club. A collision of energy and style, Electra embodies a dynamic scene where cocktail creations challenge the limits of tradition in an atmosphere that exudes an escapist, kinetic vibe. Electra completes The Venetian Cocktail Collective, comprised of the sophisticated Dorsey, The romantic Rosina and now the inventive Electra. The Collective represents the evolution of nightlife in Las Vegas.

“From the beginning we set out to fill a void in the Las Vegas market and Electra Cocktail Club will do just that” said Patrick Lang, Vice President, global restaurant and nightlife development. “The visuals of the room will be stunning. Electra will be a bold, super high energy and forward focused bar. It was designed to be open with clear sightlines across the space so that guests can interact on opposite sides of the room. The integration of technology is unique and will be a defining takeaway for all our guests.”

Electra’s backbar features a diverse selection of spirits with a focus on rums, agricoles, and mezcals. Like the menus at The Dorsey and Rosina, Electra’s offerings were conceived by noted barman Sam Ross and feature cocktails that are both imaginative and playful with a bend toward the tropical.

Highlights from the list include:

  • Penichillin, a frozen play on The Dorsey’s popular Penicillin with lemon, ginger, honey and smoky Scotch
  • Peach Daiquiri, also frozen, with white rum, rhum agricole, peach and lime
  • Trouble Maker, a combination of vodka, sweet vermouth, cucumber, lemon and strawberry
  • Pina Verde, a mix of Green Chartreuse, fresh pineapple, lime, coconut and a dash of cream
  • Age of Aquarius, with mezcal, passionfruit, lime, honey and Campari.

A digital display spanning 40 feet serves as a focal point for Electra’s guests, featuring original art in a mind-blowing 70 million pixels and more than one billion colors. This visual canvas, the highest resolution video display in Las Vegas, features a curated selection of art providing story lines that unfold throughout the evening.

Designed by award-winning Simeone Deary Design Group under a consulting agreement with Gensler, the 127-seat bar incorporates an intoxicating use of luxurious materials such as brass, granite, etched metals, custom wall coverings and a chandelier with more than 1,200 points of light, offset by deep teal accents throughout the space.

Large plush sofas provide seating in the center of the room while custom lounge chairs with contrasting leathers and metallic trim line the perimeter. Brass high top tables run parallel to the 40-foot-long Carrara stone mosaic and black absolute stone bar.

The most coveted seat in the house, the VIP corner banquette, is surrounded by a stack of ten “bracelets,” each fourteen feet in diameter with metal finishes ranging from brilliant brass to rose gold. Each with a unique design, several of the bracelets sparkle inside and out. On the ceiling, a concave mirror is suspended with gold bands with faceted backlit crystals running around the entire parameter.

The music at Electra is a celebration of all genres of rock from old and modern to indie and synth mixed with current hip hop. The playlist includes tracks from artists such as David Bowie, N.E.R.D., Cardi B, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, G-Eazy, The Talking Heads, Drake, Cage The Elephant, Portugal. THE VENETIAN LAS VEGAS PRESENTS LOVE, A NEW ART INSTALLATION BY LAURA KIMPTON

 The Venetian® Las Vegas presents LOVE, a larger than life installation in the Waterfall Atrium. Created by celebrated artist Laura Kimpton as part of her Monumental Word Series, the installation, perforated with bird-shaped stamps, spells LOVE in steel Ruby red letters that rise 12 feet tall and collectively span 36 feet across, creating a memorable experience.

“The LOVE installation is a perfect fit for our resort, larger than life, celebratory and optimistic in spirit and scale,” said Lisa Marchese, chief marketing officer of The Venetian Las Vegas. “Laura’s installation embodies beauty, power and simplicity in its meaning and presentation. We know guests will interact with the piece, share it with one another and hopefully, leave with a bit of awe and joy remembering that infectious Italian spirit that is the Venetian.”

Kimpton, who is known for her mixed media installations and sculpture, rose to distinction thanks to her large-scale art that first debuted at the 2009 Burning Man festival in Black Rock, Nevada. She draws from her desire to question traditional views on social interaction, invoking through her art a reaction and discussion which ultimately completes her projects. “LOVE” is one piece from Kimpton’s Monumental Word Series.

LOVE is about being free to love who you want, the way you want,” said artist Laura Kimpton. “The bird stamps in the letters represent being able to follow your dreams, which is the message that I hope will inspire people as they interact with the piece. Las Vegas is the city where people pursue their dreams, and this sculpture will act as a touchstone for this pursuit.”

Prior to being on display at The Venetian, LOVE was installed at the Life is Beautiful festival in downtown Las Vegas from Sept. 23-25, 2016. The piece will return to Life is Beautiful in 2017.

After performing to sold-out crowds throughout the country, the original and unruly comedy production “Puppet Up! – Uncensored” will debut at its new home this spring at the Sands Showroom located inside The Venetian® Las Vegas. Created by award-winning director, producer, and writer Brian Henson and actor, director, and improvisational guru Patrick Bristow (“Ellen,” “Seinfeld,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”), the newest entertainment residency to hit The Strip will be a completely unique experience, expertly combining dynamic and spontaneous off-the-cuff comedy and outrageous scripted story lines with the unmatched talent and creativity of Henson puppeteers.

 

“Going back to the earliest appearances on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show,’ ‘The Tonight Show’ and many others, the Henson style of puppetry has always involved improvisation,” said Creator and Producer, Brian Henson, “It was quite often true that the funniest moments on set happened after the director yelled ‘cut,’ which is one of the reasons I was inspired to create the show.”
 

Unpredictable and irreverent, this laugh-out-loud production is never the same show twice. With six expert puppeteers utilizing more than 60 different puppets, all working together to bring to life twisted scenes and songs on the fly, the crowd prompts the improvised narrative unfolding on stage. Audiences are able and encouraged to interact with the show, shaping the storyline nightly while adding energy and humor, rather than simply watching.

 
The production’s originality extends beyond the content of each performance into how the show is seen by each audience member. Delivering two-shows-in-one, audiences will view the hilarious action projected live on large screens flanking the stage while simultaneously peeking behind the curtain to witness the iconic Henson style. Pop powerhouse quintet R5 kicked off their New Year’s concerts at The Venetian Las Vegas on Tuesday, Dec. 29. “Dancing with the Stars” fan favorite Mark Ballas opened the show with his newly formed band Alexander Jean, followed by an electrifying DJ set by R5 brother Ryland Lynch, which geared up the fans for a night of energizing hits from the pop rock sensations.

R5 performed in front of an enthusiastic crowd who sang along to their chart-topping hits such as “Smile,” “Cali Girls,” and “I Want You Bad.” The concert was extra joyous because lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Ross Lynch celebrated his 20th birthday in front of an audience of his most loyal fans.

“Welcome to my birthday party” exclaimed the heartthrob, before taking fans through a spirited set list which also included homages to Las Vegas favorites Frank Sinatra and The Killers.

Ross ended the show with some words of wisdom, “Life goes by so fast and you have to appreciate every single second of it.”

Sands® Cares, the global corporate citizenship program from Las Vegas Sands® recently donated $32,000 to Kershaw’s Challenge, the charitable foundation of All-Star pitcher Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw’s Challenge encourages people to make an impact in the lives of at-risk children and communities in need. For the second year in a row, The Venetian and The Palazzo accepted the pitcher’s “Challenge” and pledged $100 per Kershaw strikeout during the 2015 baseball season. Kershaw’s 320 strikeouts (301 in the regular season and 19 in the postseason) garnered $32,000 for the foundation.

“Our partnership between Kershaw’s Challenge and The Palazzo started a few years ago. They came alongside of us with the thought of striking out to serve just like we did, so they started donating per strikeout,” said Clayton Kershaw. “It’s been an amazing partnership and now they’re one of our sponsors in our ping pong event we do in LA every year. Really at the end of the day, we’re just all trying to help some kids out. It’s a really cool partnership.”

As part of the partnership, Clayton Kershaw attended a game at The Miracle League of Las Vegas, an organization that offers individuals with cognitive and/or physical challenges the opportunity to play baseball. Kershaw pitched for both of the teams that were in attendance.

“We went over to the Miracle League field, and we got to watch a game. I got to pitch to these kids,” Kershaw said. “All of the kids had disabilities so this field was made just for them to play baseball. It was really cool for me to see these kids get the chance to play baseball which otherwise they couldn’t if they didn’t have this field.”

Multi-platinum GRAMMY®-nominated singer and songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen will ring in the New Year at Venetian Las Vegas during three concert performances: Dec. 30, and 31, 2015 and Jan. 2, 2016. Jepsen will perform her headline shows inside The Venetian Theatre.

Carly Rae Jepsen released her critically acclaimed new album E·MO·TION on Aug. 21, earning a host of positive reviews from such outlets as Rolling Stone, Stereogum, People, NPR, and TIME magazine, which deemed E·MO·TION, “the current frontrunner for pop album of the year.” The first single released from the album, “I Really Like You,” became a global Top 40 hit, while the video is Vevo Certified with more than 100 million views. Jepsen’s new single “Run Away with Me” is out now.

E·MO·TION is the follow-up to Jepsen’s U.S. debut album Kiss, which featured her blockbuster break-out hit “Call Me Maybe.” The single climbed to No. 1 on the iTunes Singles charts in more than 47 countries and has sold more than 18 million singles worldwide to date. Ferraro’s Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar announces its new executive chef, Francesco Di Caudo. He comes to Ferraro’s with more than 20 years of experience cooking in kitchens around the world.

In his current role, Chef Di Caudo works closely with family patriarch Gino Ferraro to oversee not only the staff and operations, but also the award-winning menu featuring Las Vegas’ finest authentic Italian cuisine. While staying true to Ferraro’s well-established brand and its most beloved dishes, such as restaurant’s legendary Osso Buco and homemade pastas, he has been given the liberty to incorporate his own touches to the menu. New signature dishes from Chef Di Caudo include Tagliarini Aragosta, featuring 1-pound Maine lobster, seared to perfection, served with forest mushrooms and lobster sauce; Raviolini del Plin, housemade pasta pockets stuffed with veal and served with Parmigiano cheese reduction and veal truffle sauce and Angello in Crosta, Colorado rack of lamb with a Pecorino cheese and thyme crust, peperonata and pickle yellow mustard seed sauce.

He was born near Mt. Aetna in Sicily, where he began working in kitchens when he was just 14. He worked as a dishwasher, observing and learning everything he could not only about cooking but also how to efficiently run a kitchen. By 14, he attended Istituto Alberghiero to officially study cooking. Internships would eventually bring him to Rome, Italy and Paris, France. In 2003, he met Chef Gianpaolo Belloni and immediately recognized his talent and brought him from Italy to Las Vegas. That is when he secured his first position at Zeffirino at The Venetian Las Vegas. Two years later, he became assistant executive chef at Terra Rossa at Red Rock Resort Las Vegas. After that, he went to work at not just one but two resorts simultaneously as master cook at Osteria at Bellagio Hotel and Casino and Sinatra at Wynn Las Vegas as the chef de partie, pasta. By 2010, The Venetian called once more, this time bringing Di Caudo to Canaletto as assistant executive chef. Three years later, he took a break from Las Vegas and moved to Temecula, California to serve as executive chef at Paisano’s Italian inside the Pechanga Resort & Casino.

Earlier this year, he returned to Las Vegas and met with Gino and Mimmo Ferraro. It was during this time the Ferraro family was expanding into fast casual with their new concept, Pizza Forte.

“We opened two Pizza Forte locations this year – Sunset Station and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. While I’m still at Ferraro’s on a daily basis, we are planning nine more locations within the next 18 to 24 months. We knew to continue offering the quality and service our guests expect, our family needed to find a chef whose bar for excellence was set just as high. We have found that in Francesco,” says Mimmo Ferraro.

Partnership provides scholarships for seniors and college students

Sands® Cares, the global corporate citizenship program for Las Vegas Sands® and the Quiet Storm Foundation, C.J. Watson’s initiative to provide a positive impact on underprivileged youth, have formed a partnership that will see 10 individual scholarships donated over a period of two years.

 

As part of the partnership Sands Cares will provide two separate scholarship funds for seniors and college students with 100% of the sponsorship being used for providing financial assistance for students seeking to pursue higher education. The $10,000 commitment – 10, $1,000 scholarships – also has a community service requirement for eligibility, to concentrate on the foundation’s goals of empowering youth and fostering leadership.

 

“The Sands Cares partnership with the Quiet Storm Foundation is great for the youth of the program,” said Quiet Storm Foundation founder C.J Watson. “Our areas of focus include education, health and wellness, and leadership and the mentorship program of this partnership will enhance those focus areas, giving our youth a look into what it takes to be a leader in a major company and within the local community.”

 

The partnership not only provides a financial component, but also a mentorship program, to assist in career exploration for the Quiet Storm Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC). Through the mentorship program, senior leaders from The Venetian®, The Palazzo®, and Sands Expo will participate in YAC meetings, providing information and exposure to the hospitality industry. Sands Cares will also provide a hiring workshop, giving YAC members the opportunity to work on interview skills, resume writing, and professional development; a property tour of The Venetian and The Palazzo, and the inclusion of the YAC in a service project, with the goal of working side by side with professionals of the community, to build leadership skills.

THE VENETIAN LAS VEGAS REVEAL THE SECRETS 
BEHIND THE GONDOLIER UNIVERSITY PROGRAM 

On Friday, April 3, The Venetian Las Vegas began the annual process of selecting gondoliers to be a part of the resort’s celebrated Grand Canal Gondola guest experience. Out of 100 applications, 12 made the cut to advance to the certification Jump Test at the Outdoor Grand Canal, testing their ability to swim. Candidates had to jump into the canal waters, swim back to the gondola, and regain control of the boat in specific amount of time.

Candidates whom successfully completed the initial test will continue into a three-week training period entitled Gondolier University that involves learning how to effectively maneuver the gondola through the canals, creating a unique gondolier persona, performing authentic Italian ballads and becoming a master of all facts regarding The Venetian Las Vegas. The gondoliers train in bright red shirts, and do not “earn their stripes,” in reference to the gondoliers signature striped shirts, until they have completed vocal evaluations, spent a minimum of 40 hours navigating the gondola through the canals and mastering the safety test. Final evaluations are conducted during a ride along with a senior member of the team, after which the candidate becomes a graduate of Gondolier University.

The gondola ride at The Venetian provides guests with a romantic and relaxing experience, transporting them from the hustle and bustle of the casinos to the ambiance of Venice, the most romantic city in the world. Guests can take in the beautiful Venetian architecture and enjoy a true one-of-a-kind experience in Vegas floating down the Venetian’s Grand Canal in an Italian gondola. The indoor quarter-mile-long Canal winding through the Grand Canal Shoppes also features a separate outdoor, open-air ride that offers breathtaking views of the Las Vegas Strip.

On Monday, March 9, Madame Tussauds Las Vegas premiered its wildest wax figure yet: Miley Cyrus on a wrecking ball, suspended from a 130-foot-high, 90-ton crane in front of The Venetian® Las Vegas. The attraction’s newest figure made its world debut on the Doge’s Palace canal bridge, in front of the hotel property.

WHO:
Miley Cyrus’ figure was a unique creation for Madame Tussauds’ studio team as this project included not only her figure, but also the wrecking ball itself. Together, the figure and the ball weigh more than 200 pounds. Along with a 30 foot long chain, the top of Miley’s head to the bottom of the wrecking ball will stand at more than 10 feet. The figure and the ball took more than six months to create with a team of 20 dedicated artists. Based on more than 300 precise body measurements, the figure was first sculpted in clay by hand then covered in a plaster cast. Once the clay was removed from the cast, the wax was poured in and allowed to cool. Finally, the figure was fitted with acrylic eyes and teeth; hairs on the head were inserted individually by hand and countless layers of paints and tints were applied to build up skin tones – all to achieve an astonishingly lifelike figure.

Miley’s figure will be permanently installed into the attraction’s Music Room.

Nintendo’s “The Legend of Zelda” symphony concert series will come to Las Vegas, on its latest tour “Master Quest.”  The show, which celebrates the beloved 28-year-old video game franchise, will make this world tour stop on June 10, at The Venetian Theatre.

The Las Vegas Philharmonic will perform orchestral arrangements of music from the games of “The Legend of Zelda” universe, accompanied by video content from the games themselves.

The Las Vegas concert will be taped for a national music special scheduled to air at a later date on Public Television and AXS TV.

This new concert series will tour across the United States, Asia and Europe in 2015 as The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddess – Master Quest, and will feature music and images from Nintendo’s “The Legend of Zelda’s” most recent game releases.

“How beautiful to see an art form revived,” said a review in the Vancouver Observer.  “The symphony is not a dying venue for aging minds but a potent way to communicate emotions via technology.”

Nintendo has teamed up with Jason Michael Paul Productions, Inc. to provide video game fans with the ultimate musical experience for “The Legend of Zelda.” The highlight of this new musical program is a full four-movement symphony that will guide fans through a musical retelling of key chapters from “The Legend of Zelda” franchise. The multimedia show will pair iconic music and gorgeous visuals from classic Zelda titles, as well as the newest game in the series, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the Nintendo 3DS.

“We realize that ‘The Legend of Zelda’ fans are all over the world, and we want to bring this multimedia experience to them, too,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Game music, especially game music as iconic as Zelda, is wonderful because no matter what language or country, it’s familiar for everyone to enjoy.”

“Master Quest will surprise and delight ‘The Legend of Zelda’ concert newcomers as well as faithful followers,” said Jason Michael Paul- President Jason Michael Paul Productions, Inc. “It features the same quintessential images and songs best known from The Legend of Zelda franchise, but with the addition of never before seen or heard performances.”
