Legendary Comedian Don Rickles Returns to The Orleans Showroom April 9-10

Returning for his 57th consecutive year as a Las Vegas headliner, internationally distinguished comedian, actor and entertainer Don Rickles will perform at The Orleans Showroom on April 9 and 10.

Frequently known by the nicknames “The Merchant of Venom” and “Mr. Warmth,” Rickles’ style of comedy is never mean-spirited and all part of his act. It has been said that being “zinged” by Rickles is like “wearing a badge of honor.”

Rickles took his first step toward national fame in 1957, when he spotted Frank Sinatra in the audience at a nightclub in Miami Beach. The still-unknown Rickles eyed Sinatra and said, “I just saw your movie, ‘The Pride and the Passion,’ and I want to tell you, the cannon was great. Make yourself at home, Frank. Hit somebody.” Sinatra, whose pet name for Rickles was “bullet-head,” enjoyed Rickles so much that he returned to see him when he was performing in Los Angeles, and encouraged other celebrities to see his act. Rickles soon became the “in” comic among Hollywood stars, who flocked to see him to become a target of his insults. Sinatra’s continuing support helped Rickles become a popular performer in Las Vegas, where he first started in 1959, and has been a headliner ever since.

Shortly after being discovered by Sinatra, Rickles made his acting debut in 1958’s “Run Silent Run Deep.”  The movie was a hit, launching Rickles’ career as a movie, television and stage actor.  His still-growing television and film resume includes roles in “Casino,” “Kelly’s Heroes,” “The Rat Race,” all three “Toy Story” films, HBO’s “Tales From the Crypt,” and Bravo’s “My Life on the D-List” with Kathy Griffin. In 2011, he made a surprise appearance in a “cliff-hanger” episode as the “thought-to-be-dead” husband of Betty White’s character on the TV Land comedy “Hot In Cleveland,” with a follow-up appearance later in the season. In 2000, Rickles received one of the highest honors in the entertainment business when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Rickles has received two Primetime Emmy Awards, including Best Individual Performance in a Variety or Musical for the 2008 HBO special “Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project.” In 2009, TV Land honored Rickles with the “Legend Award.” Rickles’ best-selling memoir “Rickles’ Book” was released in 2007, followed by the 2008 title, “Rickles’ Letters.”

In spring 2012, Rickles joined David Letterman as one of the only two performers to receive the prestigious “Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence” at The Comedy Awards, aired on Comedy Central. The award was presented to Rickles by Jon Stewart and Robert DeNiro. In June 2013, Rickles was honored with the Friars Club’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Comedy at a star-studded awards gala at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. Among those participating in honoring Rickles through their songs or words were Lewis Black, Louis C.K., Natalie Cole, Bob Costas, Tony Danza, Robert DeNiro, Kathy Griffin, Diana Krall, John Mayer, Bob Newhart, Regis Philbin, Joan Rivers, Bob Saget and John Stamos.

The honors continued when a star-studded cast honored Rickles on SPIKE TV’s “One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles” in May 2014. The two-hour special was taped in New York City, Rickles’ hometown, and includes stand-up performances, short films, pre-taped tributes and personal stories as told by Rickles’ closest friends, his co-stars and other comedians he has influenced. The event featured celebrities from the world of comedy, television and the silver screen including Robert DeNiro, Johnny Depp, Tina Fey, Brad Garrett, Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman, Tracy Morgan, Eddie Murphy, Bob Newhart, Regis Philbin, Amy Poehler, Ray Romano, Martin Scorsese, Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Stewart and Brian Williams.

In addition to recurring dates in Las Vegas at The Orleans, Rickles continues to be a popular performer in venues throughout the country.

Showtime each evening is 8 p.m. Tickets start at $69.95, plus tax and convenience fees, and can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming Box Office, by calling 702.284.7777, or visiting www.orleanscasino.com.

Renowned Australian Soft-Rock Duo Air Supply Returns For Memorial Day Weekend Performances at The Orleans Showroom May 22-24

Australian soft-rock group Air Supply returns to The Orleans Showroom for three shows over Memorial Day Weekend, May 22, 23 and 24.

Englishman Graham Russell and Australian Russell Hitchcock met in 1975 while performing in the Australian production of the celebrated musical, “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Later that year, the duo formed Air Supply and released their first hit and self-titled debut album, reaching gold in Australia. After opening for Rod Stewart’s tour in the U.S. in the late ‘70s, Air Supply had an international breakthrough and signed a distribution deal with Arista Records in 1980.

Air Supply’s album, “Lost in Love,” featured three U.S. top five singles, including the title track, which was the fastest-selling single in the world; “Every Woman in the World,” and “All Out of Love.” Over the next three years, Air Supply produced hit after hit, including “Just Another Woman,” “The One That You Love,” “Here I Am,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Even The Nights Are Better” and “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All,” which reached #2 on the Billboard charts in 1983. They released “Mumbo Jumbo” in May 2010, and the single “Sanctuary” was released in December 2011.

With 30 albums and more than 15 hit singles, Air Supply is one of the best-known soft rock performers in the world. In 2008, Air Supply was named #83 on Billboard’s top 100 musical acts of all time, making them the only Australian band on the list.

Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets start at $39.95, plus tax and fees, and can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming Box Office, by calling 702.284.7777 or visiting www.orleanscasino.com.

Sinbad Keeps Them Laughing

Sinbad-Feb2015

There is one comedian who every person seems to know by name and that name is Sinbad. I don’t think I have ever come across anyone who did not know who Sinbad is. He’s the ADHD funny guy that is loved by everyone and he gave his public what they wanted once again at the Orleans Showroom in Las Vegas over this past weekend.

Sinbad’s Humor

Sinbad is known for his clean act. This doesn’t mean that he’s never going to say “damn” or only uses humor a child can understand. He will find the humor in some pretty tough subjects from time to time. He talks about being ADHD as a kid (and as a grown up) and gives some hilarious suggestions to teachers in the audience on how they can get along with these kids. He has also been known to get his audience laughing about difficult subjects like sexual harassment and others difficult subjects. He’s sharp and he never misses the mark when a member of the audience leaves him an opening to make everyone laugh. And he always does it in a family friendly way.

Sinbad’s performance is heavy on audience participation. Often his regular routine will involve asking the crowd a question. People will call out answers to him from their seats and he’ll always turn the resulting conversation into a sidesplitting, laugh until you cry experience.

Sinbad in Las Vegas

This weekend’s performance was light on storytelling and heavy on audience participation. He played at my favorite spot, the Orleans Showroom, on both Friday and Saturday nights. The place was packed and looked to be sold out, but his shows are always nearly sold out. The audience laughed and laughed hard all throughout the show.

Everyone loves Sinbad. Even in Las Vegas, where most comedians are touting how their act is the dirtiest ever, Sinbad is still selling out the rooms he plays by keeping it pretty clean. If you are ever in the mood for an hour and a half of deep belly laughs, look for Sinbad at the Orleans Showroom at the Orleans Casino. He plays there a couple of times per year. Tell him Pam sent ya.

Rock and Roll Hitmaker Ted Nugent to Take the Stage at The Orleans Showroom July 12

Rock music legend and “Cat Scratch Fever”’ singer, Ted Nugent brings his impressive guitar skills and live show to the Orleans Showroom on July 12.

Nugent’s musical talents, ear shattering volume and over-the-top onstage antics quickly earned him the nickname “Motor City Madman.”

Nugent initially gained fame as the lead guitarist of the band “The Amboy Dukes” before embarking on a solo career. He was known throughout his early career for using Fender amps, which contributed to his signature sound, and for playing the hollow-body Gibson Byrdland guitar. Nugent began touring annually in 1967—averaging more than 300 shows per year.

Commonly recognized as the world’s leading guitar showman, Nugent’s no-holds-barred career spans five decades of multi-platinum hits. Throughout his career, Nugent has released more than 34 albums and has sold a total of 30 million records.

Nugent’s 1970s hits, including “Stranglehold,” “Cat Scratch Fever,” “Wango Tango,” and “Great White Buffalo,” as well as the 1960s “Amboy Dukes” hit titled “Journey to the Center of the Mind,” remain popular today and are played on classic rock and active rock radio stations across the globe.

Additionally, Nugent held numerous acting roles, and starred in a number of reality television programs. Nugent appeared in popular series including “Miami Vice,” “That ‘70s Show,” “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” “The Simpsons,” along with reality shows “Surviving Nugent,” and “Forever Wild.”

Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are available from $79.95 plus tax and convenience fees. Tickets can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming Box Office, by calling 702.365.7075, or by visiting www.orleanscasino.com.

Sinbad Brings His Brand of Comedic Storytelling Back to The Orleans Showroom May 16-17

Following a successful engagement earlier this year, comedian Sinbad returns to The Orleans Showroom with his unique comedic storytelling and wit May 16 and 17.

Sinbad is best known for various television and movie appearances throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including several HBO comedy specials.

Sinbad’s comedy is built more on stories than jokes, based on everyone he meets, everything he’s seen and everything he does. As the son of a preacher man, he is committed to making his comedy proud but not profane. He also takes the trials and tribulations of audience members and throws it back in their faces, creating a unique comedy experience.

Sinbad began his career as a seven-time contestant on “Star Search.” He spent four years on the television show “A Different World” and starred in his own series “The Sinbad Show.” Sinbad made his film debut in “Necessary Roughness” and also had leading roles in “Jingle All the Way,” “Houseguest” and “First Kid.” He recently appeared on the series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” receiving critical acclaim for his guest spot.

Sinbad was named one of Comedy Central’s top 100 comedians and was featured in a special program on the network in 2010. He received a NCAAP Image Award two years in a row for his annual HBO special “Sinbad’s ‘70s Soul Music Festival.” Sinbad has also participated in several USO tours.

Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets start at $49.95, plus tax and convenience fees, and can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming Box Office, by calling 702.365.7075, or visiting www.orleanscasino.com.
