UNLV’S MARVIN COLEMAN NAMED MOUNTAIN WEST MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

UNLV’S MARVIN COLEMAN NAMED MOUNTAIN WEST MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sophomore guard honored by conference after recording first triple-double by a Runnin’ Rebel in 20 years and career highs in points, rebounds, assists and steals in wins over San Jose State and New Mexico

UNLV sophomore Marvin Coleman was named Mountain West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. It is his first career weekly honor and the second for a Runnin’ Rebel player this season.

Originally from Las Vegas, the 6-foot-2-inch guard averaged 14.0 points, 9.5 assists, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game last week in home wins over San Jose State (98-87) and New Mexico (99-78). He also shot 91 percent from the free-throw line (11 of 12), while playing an average of 35.5 minutes per contest.

After scoring a career-high 17 points against San Jose State on Wednesday with a then-career-high eight assists, he recorded UNLV’s first triple-double in more than 20 years as he scored 11 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 11 assists (with only two turnovers) against New Mexico on Saturday. It marked just the fifth triple-double in Mountain West history and first since 2016.

Coleman’s 12 rebounds and 11 assists were both career highs, as were his six steals against the Lobos. UNLV’s last triple-double occurred on Nov. 19, 1999 as Mark Dickel had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists vs. Mississippi Valley State.

UNLV’s two wins last week were its fifth- and sixth-straight at home and improved its Mountain West record to 6-1, which is its best league start in 12 years. The home win streak is its longest in five years, and overall, UNLV has won three straight games and seven of its last eight.

NEXT FOR UNLV: The Runnin’ Rebels (11-9, 6-1) will travel to Reno, Nevada, to play at UNR on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The 8 p.m. game will be televised by CBS Sports Network. UNLV’s next home game will take place Sunday, Jan. 26, vs. No. 7/6 San Diego State at 1 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at UNLVtickets.com, by calling 702-739-FANS (3267) or by visiting the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office.

About Earth, Wind & Fire
In 1969, music legend Maurice White birthed the music force named after the elements from his very own astrological charts. With soul as deep as the plant, Earth, Wind & Fire charted a history that will live on forever.

In 2019 their contributions to arts and culture was acknowledged in Washington DC with the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors. The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery also awarded Earth, Wind & Fire with its Portrait of a Nation Prize. For their record-breaking success, they’ve also been awarded with Lifetime Achievement honors from ASCAP, NAACP, BET, and have star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Their reach extends to heads-of-state. They have been invited to perform for Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, who said in an interview with Rolling Stone that Earth, Wind & Fire was a “rhythm and blues and pop staple.”

With timeless songs and commitment to spreading positivity, Earth, Wind & Fire has consistently made music that has bridged the gap among all generations and nationalities. With a sound that blends funk, jazz, pop, soul, and R&B, Earth, Wind & Fire launched a musical genre that can’t be confined to a specific label except their own. From the funky and infectious “Let’s Groove” to the timeless dance classic “September” to the heartfelt “Reasons,” Earth, Wind & Fire’s catalog of hits has become the soundtrack to many lives; now, then and forever.

They continue to influence musicians from all generations and genres. Music giants Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Prince have studied and hailed their artistry. While many of today’s chart-topping artists including Lenny Kravitz, Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, and Solange have declared themselves super fans. Alicia Keys has called Earth, Wind & Fire “the best band ever” and Mary J. Blige showed her love by recording their song “Imagination.” And the band shared the stage with Black Eyed Peas performing on the half-time show at Super Bowl XX1X.

Their achievements are equally matched by their generosity. Over the years the band has supported various charity organizations including the Make a Wish Foundation, Race to Erase MS, the American Cancer Society, and the Human Society. In 2007, leader Philip Bailey founded Music Is Unity, which helps youth in foster care successfully transition into adulthood and provides music instruments to youth with musical aspirations but lacking the resources. Co- founder, Verdine White has led important initiatives with the Girls & Boys Club of America and opened The Verdine White Foundation in Los Angeles as a mecca to serve youth with music scholarships and other programs. Ralph Johnson also continues to be an advocate for the arts in school systems.

In 2016, Maurice passed and his memoir, My Life with Earth, Wind & Fire was released posthumously. In 2014, Philip Bailey released a memoir Shining Star: Braving the Elements of Earth, Wind & Fire.

Rock legends REO Speedwagon to perform at Red Rock Resort

Rock legends REO Speedwagon to perform at Red Rock Resort

Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 8 p.m.

Tickets on sale – Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 at 10 a.m.

Rock legends REO Speedwagon are returning to Las Vegas for a special performance at the Sandbar Stage at Red Rock Resort on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 8 p.m. Located poolside at Red Rock Resort, the Sandbar poolside stage is the perfect destination for a concert experience under the stars. Tickets start at $35 plus applicable fees and go on sale Friday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m.

Formed in 1967, signed in 1971 and fronted by iconic vocalist Kevin Cronin since 1972, REO Speedwagon is a band where the main constant over the decades is a never-ending desire to give their all to their fans, year in and year out. Formed loosely in the late 1960s at college in Champaign, IL, REO (named after the precursor to the light truck) rode to gigs in station wagons, hopping from small gigs to even tinier gigs, just to get their name out. It worked, as fans quickly realized there was much more going on here than your average college party band.

By the early 1970s, the band’s unrelenting drive, as well as non-stop touring and recording, jump-started the burgeoning rock movement in the Midwest. It carved a path that was eventually followed by STYX, Kansas, Cheap Trick and more. Platinum albums and freeform FM radio staples such as “Ridin’ The Storm Out” followed, set the stage for 1980’s explosive Hi Infidelity. REO rode the top of the charts with a RIAA-certified 22 million albums sold in the United States and 40 million around the globe, with a string of gold and platinum records and international hit singles, including “Take It on the Run,” “Can’t Fight This Feeling” and the platinum-certified “Keep On Loving You.”

Tickets for the REO Speedwagon are $35 plus applicable fees for standing room only and $50 plus applicable fees for VIP standing near the stage. All tickets go on sale Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 at 10 a.m. Guests under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult 21 years or older. Tickets can be purchased at any Station Casinos Reward Center and The Fiestas, by logging onto www.stationcasinoslive.com or through Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or www.ticketmaster.com. For exclusive ticket pre-sale information connect with Red Rock Resort on Twitter @RedRockCasino and Facebook.

Delmonico Steakhouse Celebrates 20 Years of Distinguished Dining

Delmonico Steakhouse Celebrates 20 Years of
Distinguished Dining

Throwback Menu Specials Offered May 3-12

Delmonico Steakhouse will commemorate the 20th anniversary of its opening at The Venetian with menu specials from May 3-12 and other surprises throughout the year.

The anniversary specials will highlight some of the restaurant’s most beloved dishes throughout the years, including house cured tasso and smoked mushroom cream over angel hair pasta with fresh chives; crab mirliton stuffed Gulf oysters with bearnaise sauce; BBQ salmon with andouille potato hash homemade Worcestershire sauce and fried onion crust; bananas foster ice cream pie; and lemon icebox pie with strawberry coulis.

Delmonico Steakhouse has also designed a special commemorative logo which will appear on menus throughout the rest of the year, as well as on the lapels of all service staff.

“I opened Delmonico Steakhouse 20 years ago with the hopes of sharing the flavors of New Orleans with Las Vegas and to celebrate the art of dining,” said Chef Emeril Lagasse. “I’m grateful for the ongoing support of our customers, the Las Vegas community and The Venetian, who share and support these intentions. We look forward to continuing to share our traditions, cuisine and service with all our guests for many years to come.”

Delmonico Steakhouse is Chef Emeril Lagasse’s take on the classic American steakhouse with Creole influences. The restaurant brings back a time when cocktail hour was not to be missed and dinner with friends was a celebration. Located in Restaurant Row at The Venetian, Delmonico Steakhouse takes its name from the legendary, century-old New Orleans institution, Delmonico Restaurant and Bar. The restaurant has been a “Grand Award” recipient of Wine Spectator magazine since 2004, and named a “four-star restaurant” by Forbes Travel and a “Top 5 Steakhouse in the Nation” by National CitySearch. Chef de Cuisine Ronnie Rainwater has also been with the restaurant since shortly after its debut in 1999.

The anniversary celebrations will augment Delmonico Steakhouse’s current popular offerings, including Creekstone Farms steak selections, a rotating weekly chef’s menu with original inspirations from the kitchen, the one-of-a-kind Kitchen Table experience, an award-winning wine list and the unparalleled whiskey library featuring over 700 whiskey bottlings from countries, including Scotland, Ireland, USA, Canada, Japan, Taiwan and India.

For reservations, call (702) 414-3737 and keep up with restaurant news and events on Twitter and Instagram at @DelmonicoSteak and Facebook at facebook.com/DelmonicoSteak.
