Jon Secada Performs at the Suncoast Showroom Oct. 14-15

Grammy Award-winning entertainer Jon Secada will bring his Latin-influenced hits to the Suncoast Showroom Oct. 14 and 15.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Secada got his start in the late 1980’s as a background singer for Gloria Estefan. In 1991, he co-wrote her smash hit “Coming Out of the Dark” and released his self-titled debut album the following year. The album, which sold more than 6 million copies and earned triple-Platinum status, featured the chart-topping singles “Angel,” “Just Another Day,” “Do You Believe in Us” and “I’m Free.” Secada’s album was recognized with his first Grammy Award for “Best Latin Pop Album” in 1992.

Secada released three more albums throughout the early 90’s and earned his second Grammy Award for “Best Latin Pop Performance” in 1995. In addition to his own hit songs, Secada wrote songs for artists Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez and Mandy Moore, in addition to providing backup vocals on Enrique Iglesias’s 2001 album, “Escape.” Throughout his career, Secada has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.

Secada also brought his music talents to the stage, appearing on Broadway in productions of “Grease,” “Cabaret” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

lena

Lena Prima, the youngest daughter of music legend Louis Prima, will bring her musical celebration “Old Vegas & New Orleans!” to the Suncoast Showroom Aug. 20.

“Old Vegas & New Orleans!” honors Lena Prima’s musical roots, with a set list that includes her own songs and ballads; jazz and New Orleans classics; and her father’s timeless hits.

Born in Las Vegas to the famous singer-songwriter and classically trained singer Gia Maione Prima, Lena Prima grew up on stage singing, dancing and touring with her parents during her summer vacations. She graduated from Clark High School in Las Vegas and continued her education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she studied art, music and dance. Singing became her full-time career in 1991 when she began touring with two bands.

In 2000, she began a two-year engagement of “Louis Prima, That’s My Dad!” at the Sahara Hotel and Casino where her father performed in the early 1950s. With five albums to her name, Lena Prima has performed on stages throughout the country and was praised by the Chicago Tribune, “A standing ovation…Lena has the panache of her father.”

An avid supporter of Italian-American causes, she recently served as the Grand Marshal of the St. Joseph’s Day Italian Parade in New Orleans and has headlined more than 50 Italian-American festivals around the country.

Legendary Diner Du-Par’s Now Open at Suncoast Signature Pancakes, Pies and More Coming to Northwest Valley Location

Southern California’s most established and legendary diner brand – Du-par’s Restaurant and Bakery – has arrived at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino.

Located just south of the Summerlin area, the newest location provides Du-par’s fans in the northwest Valley a convenient new location to enjoy what Esquire magazine called “the best pancakes in the country,” as well as made-from-scratch pies and more fresh, authentic favorites.

“We are excited to bring the Du-par’s experience to the Summerlin area,” said Kerrie Burke, Vice President and General Manager at Suncoast. “Du-par’s is the perfect addition to Suncoast’s great dining options, offering high-quality, hand-crafted meals that satisfy, any hour of the day.”

For more than 75 years, Du-par’s has been serving up world-famous old-fashioned buttermilk hotcakes, fresh-ground hamburgers, award-winning fresh fruit pies and more. The restaurant uses the freshest ingredients to provide wonderful taste, meaning that pastries are hand-made from scratch each day; potatoes are hand-peeled and cut; juices are fresh-squeezed and all soups, gravies and salad dressings are house-made.

“At the heart of every great casino is a great 24-hour restaurant,” said Biff Naylor, President and Chief Executive Officer of Du-par’s Restaurants. “The Boyd and Naylor families have long shared a commitment to delivering authentic, memorable experiences for our guests, and we are excited to build upon our rich history with the Boyd family.”

The relationship between the Boyd and Naylor families goes back to the late 1950s, when “Tiny” Naylor, Biff’s father, worked with Sam Boyd at The Mint Casino in downtown Las Vegas. Naylor oversaw the property’s food and beverage operations for several years, while Boyd served as Vice President and General Manager of the property until the late 1960s.

Du-par’s is the latest new dining concept to debut at Suncoast, following the November 2015 opening of Brigg’s Oyster Co. The restaurant is part of Boyd Gaming’s nationwide campaign to enhance its properties’ amenities. With 16 studio albums and numerous compilations to their name, April Wine’s imprint on the rock music scene began in 1969 in Nova Scotia. The group enjoyed initial mainstream success with their second album “On Record,” which received Gold status in 1972. The album’s first single “You Could Have Been a Lady” topped the Canadian charts at #1 and remained on the U.S charts for 11 straight weeks, cracking the Top 30. The band continued to record hits throughout the ‘70s, including “Tonight is a Wonderful Time to Fall in Love” and “The Whole World’s Goin’ Crazy,” both of which reached #5 on the Canadian charts.

April Wine continued to rock well into the ‘80s with the release of 1981’s “The Nature Of The Beast,” the group’s ninth and most successful album to date. Their hit single “Just Between You and Me” broke the Top 20 in the U.S. and remained on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 16 weeks. “Nature Of The Beast” went on to become an international success, selling more than 1 million copies and going Platinum in the U.S. and double-Platinum in Canada.

April Wine consists of original member Myles Goodwin on guitar, piano and vocals, plus Brian Greenway on guitar and vocals, Roy “Nip” Nichol on drums and vocals and Richard Lanthier on bass and vocals.

English New-Wave Band A Flock of Seagulls Lands at the Suncoast Showroom Jan. 9

Legendary 1980s synth-pop rock group, A Flock of Seagulls, with original frontman Mike Score, will perform at the Suncoast Showroom Jan. 9.

Score, a former hairdresser, started A Flock of Seagulls with his brother Ali in Liverpool in 1979. They took the band’s name from a lyric in “Toiler on the Sea,” a song written by the popular ‘70s English punk-rock band The Stranglers.

In 1981, A Flock of Seagulls released its debut EP that featured the single “Telecommunication,” which became an underground hit on the European new-age club scene. In 1982, the band found success in the United States with its Billboard Hot 100 hit “I Ran (So Far Away).” The music video contributed to the band’s popularity, featuring Mike Score and what is now known as one of the most iconic hairstyles of the 1980s.

Following its Billboard debut, A Flock of Seagulls returned with its sophomore album “Listen” in 1983, which contained another Billboard Hot 100 hit “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You).” In the same year, the band charted once again with the single “Space Age Love Song.”

Mike Score is pursuing a solo career in addition to touring as lead vocals and keyboardist for A Flock of Seagulls. He released the singles “All I Wanna Do” and “Somebody Like You,” from “Zeebratta,” his debut solo album that was released in March 2014.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20 plus taxes and fees and can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming box office by calling 702.284.7777 or by visiting www.suncoastcasino.com.

Country Trio Trick Pony Rides into the Suncoast Showroom Dec. 5

Country Trio Trick Pony Rides into the Suncoast Showroom Dec. 5

Trick Pony
Nashville-based country band Trick Pony brings its 1970s-influenced outlaw country-rock performance to the Suncoast Showroom Dec. 5.

Trick Pony was formed in 1996 by guitarist Keith Burns and bassist Ira Dean. The two crossed paths five years prior while working as backing musicians for country music stars Joe Diffie and Tanya Tucker. Burns and Dean decided to form a group that was comprised of two men and a woman. Soon after, Burns and Dean welcomed singer, guitarist and harmonica player Heidi Newfield to the group.

The group spent several years perfecting its sound by playing in clubs across the southern United States. In 2000, the group signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records and released its self-titled debut album. The album’s first single, “Pour Me,” peaked at #12 on Billboard’s Hot Country chart. The group’s first album also yielded two additional charting singles, “On a Night Like This” and “Just What I Do,” and was certified gold within a year of its release.

On the heels of its initial success, the trio released “On a Mission” in 2002, and found itself in the top-20 on the “Billboard 200” with the album’s title track. The group went on to release its third album, “R.I.D.E. (Rebellious Individuals Delivering Entertainment)” in 2005, four months before Newfield left the band to pursue a solo career.

Newfield was replaced by Aubrey Collins, a singer-songwriter who had previously appeared on ABC’s “The One: Making a Music Star.” The group disbanded in 2008 after Collins’ departure.
