UNITED WAY OF SOUTHERN NEVADA SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
FOR “EARN IT KEEP IT SAVE IT” FREE TAX PREPARATION
United Way in need of volunteers for free tax service now – April 17, 2012

United Way of Southern Nevada is in search of more than 400 volunteers for the “Earn It Keep It Save It” collaborative, which provides complimentary tax preparation to low-to-moderate income families, individuals and seniors.

Volunteers are needed now through April 17, 2012, to serve as tax preparers, greeters, quality reviewers and site coordinators. Those donating their time will receive tax law and e-file training, IRS certification at convenient training locations throughout Southern Nevada.

In the 2011 tax season, more than 200 volunteers helped 6,000 families claim nearly $8 million in tax refunds, including more than $3.1 million in federal tax credits. The preparation service helped return money to the pockets of local residents and the local economy. With the help of the community, United Way hopes to reach even more Southern Nevadans in 2012.

Through a generous grant from the IRS and matched funding from local partners, United Way, along with AARP, supports more than 30 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites across the Las Vegas Valley. The VITA sites are staffed by IRS trained and certified volunteers who prepare tax returns at no cost to qualifying individuals and families.
