Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum Unveils August Events, Inviting
Community to Explore Art, Movement, and Mindful Experiences
The Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum has announced a creative lineup of August events designed to celebrate art and foster well-being, including a healing movement series; a gentle yet invigorating yoga class; and an immersive sound bath.
Saturday, Aug. 16, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Nicola Lea Kilyushik will lead an expanded foundational movement class: Moving Meditation: Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and Yoga Nidra Foundations. Experience 90 minutes of mindful movement, breath awareness, and deep relaxation, integrating the healing foundations of Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and Yoga Nidra. This immersive session invites guests to reconnect with their bodies and minds through gentle, intentional practices. Qi Gong cultivates and circulates vital life energy (qi) through slow, flowing movements and breathwork to support balance, vitality, and calm. Tai Chi builds on this foundation with graceful, choreographed sequences known as “forms” that promote coordination, focus, and inner strength. Yoga Nidra, or “yogic sleep,” is a guided meditation designed to bring the body into deep rest while keeping the mind alert, enhancing self-awareness, stress relief, and emotional clarity. Together, these complementary practices support physical well-being, reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, and foster greater creativity and intuition. Guests are encouraged to dress comfortably and bring water, a yoga mat, and any supports (like a blanket or cushion) they may need. All experience levels are welcome, and tickets are priced at $30 per session.
Sunday, Aug. 24, from 11 a.m. to noon
Nicole Scheerer, owner and founder of The Sunshine Den, will lead Sweet Flow Yoga. Sweet flow yoga is a gentle, breath-centered practice designed to soothe the body, calm the mind, and uplift the spirit. This class blends slow-flowing movements with mindful pauses, creating space for deep release and inner stillness. Designed for all levels, it’s an ideal way to increase flexibility, unwind, reconnect, and restore balance from the inside out. Scheerer, a certified yoga instructor, reiki master, and theta practitioner with over 20 years of experience, finds immense joy in sharing the transformative power of yoga with others. Guests should bring a yoga mat, blanket, water bottle, and any other blocks or supports they may need. Tickets are priced at $30 per session.
Sunday, Aug. 24, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Terry Mahoney will facilitate a healing Sound Bath. A Sound Bath is a deeply immersive, full body listening experience that intentionally uses sound to nurture the spirit and help to heal the mind and body. This month’s sound bath experience will center on cultivating presence and mindful awareness. Participants will be guided in grounding techniques to deepen concentration and fully embrace the present moment. The museum invites guests to bring a water bottle, a yoga mat and/or blanket, as well as any pillows, blocks and bolster they may need to reach a comfortable and meditative plane. Guests are welcome to bring water, however no other beverages or food are permitted in the museum. Tickets are priced at $30 per session.
Tickets to all events are available here.
