CALL FOR ENTRIES:

Meow Wolf Partnering with SaveArtSpace to Feature Local Artists’ Work on Las Vegas-Area Billboards

Submission deadline for all-ages and skill levels entry call is August 2, 2021

Calling all artists! This summer, Meow Wolf Las Vegas is partnering with SaveArtSpace to bring more art to public spaces through an open call for submissions of artwork to be featured on billboards across the valley. Open to artists of all ages, skill levels and backgrounds, the public art project will accept submissions through Monday, August 2, and is asking for works incorporating the theme of “Portals & Pathways.” For more information, including submission instructions and requirements, visit SaveArtSpace.org/MeowWolf.

The first of its kind for the Las Vegas community, this partnership between Meow Wolf Las Vegas, creators of the new immersive art attraction Omega Mart, and non-profit organization SaveArtSpace will increase public accessibility to art while simultaneously creating opportunities for artists’ work to be viewed by thousands of people in a public setting, likely for the first time. Those interested in submitting their work for consideration can access the call summary by visiting SaveArtSpace.org/MeowWolf. There is a $10 tax-deductible donation requirement per image submission to participate and artists are encouraged to submit up to 10 images. Each donation goes toward producing the public art and will be supplemented by a contribution from Meow Wolf that will secure a minimum of three billboards.

Starting Sept. 13, the selected artists’ works will be exhibited for one month on dedicated billboards throughout the city. Submissions will be reviewed and selected by a team of curators affiliated with Meow Wolf including Las Vegas native and Omega Mart Art Director, Spencer Olsen; Cultural Engagement Specialist, Fawn Douglas; Programming & Outreach Manager, Christy Sakamoto; and Artist Liaison, Robin Slonina.

Since 2015, SaveArtSpace has installed the artwork of 315 artists on 600 advertising spaces in more than 35 cities across the country. Beyond transforming advertisement space into public art, SaveArtSpace works with a variety of community groups including schools, senior residencies, shelters, youth groups, special needs programs, art collectives, galleries, and museums. In partnership, SaveArtSpace aims to foster community and cultural enrichment through the arts while supporting underprivileged and emerging artists by providing them the opportunity to display work in the public space.

Meow Wolf’s commitment to its original mission of fostering community and supporting emerging artists remains even as the art collective grows, with strong efforts to support local artists and the arts community through community outreach and engagement. While immersive exhibition experiences and interactive storytelling remain the flagship of Meow Wolf’s collective goals, the organization also prioritizes community engagement, ethical investment, environmental stewardship and strengthening the local economy as key and sustained efforts in engaging a wider circle of talented people and organizations.

The Meow Wolf Las Vegas x SaveArtSpace public art project is currently accepting submissions through midnight on Monday, August 2, 2021. To submit your work and for more information, visit SaveArtSpace.org/MeowWolf.
