Bullying can have devastating effects on the lives of those who experience it. That’s why PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center has created Together Against Bullying (TAG), inspired by comedian Carrot Top.

TAG is a campaign to help prevent bullying and support the more than 13 million American students who are bullied each year. After making a donation at togetheragainst.org, a person will receive real or virtual stickers which they can use to TAG their friends and share on social media using the hashtags #TogetherAgainst and #TagItForward. The funds raised through the campaign will be used to create bullying prevention programs, materials, and resources for students, parents, and educators.

“Your support of this campaign will make a significant difference in the lives of the many students who are bullied each day,” said Julie Hertzog, executive director of PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. “By donating and tagging your friends, you’re showing students who are bullied that they are not alone and that someone cares about them.”

Carrot Top will help kick off the Together Against Bullying campaign by tagging his celebrity friends and posting videos on social media encouraging others to get involved, donate, and join the cause.

“I have made a career out of being different, but it hasn’t always been easy. I have had to deal with bullying throughout my entire life,” said Carrot Top. “This is an incredibly personal cause and something that affects almost every one of us. I want to encourage everyone to get involved, make a donation, spread awareness, and help ban together against bullying.”

In regards to how this partnership came about Carrot Top explained, “I decided to approach PACER because they are at the forefront of this cause. They are an amazing organization that has done so much already in the bullying prevention movement. We decided to create this campaign together in order to call even more attention to the challenge that so many have experienced. If we can draw even more attention to bullying prevention, then this will all have been more than worth it.”

Together Against Bullying is the first of many activities that will take place during National Bullying Prevention Month in October, which PACER developed in 2006. On Unity Day, Wednesday, Oct. 21, communities across the world will join together against bullying and unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion by wearing orange, planning events, and sharing information about the movement on social media.

“National Bullying Prevention Month has become a major international event,” said Paula Goldberg, PACER’s executive director. “We are proud to partner with Chegg, Facebook, Instagram, and Adobe, and hope that together, we can bring an end to this painful issue that affects far too many students and others.”
