Get the S’mores and Arts & Crafts Ready as Kids with Medical Needs Virtually Return to ‘Cabins’ for 2021’s Camp Independent Firefly!

THE NEVADA CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL HEMOPHILIA FOUNDATION TO HOST 18th ANNUAL CAMP INDEPENDENT FIREFLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH CANDLELIGHTERS CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION OF NEVADA

LAS VEGAS June 1, 2021 – Camp Independent Firefly is back! As a cornerstone service for the Nevada Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation, the premier camp program for youth affected by bleeding disorders will take place as a virtual experience June 15-18, 2021. The four day camp is designed to allow children with special medical needs the opportunity to experience a variety of traditional camp activities.

Camp Independent Firefly will feature activities such as at-home projects with supplies shipped to campers ahead of time, live video conferencing sessions with their ‘cabins,’ fun games and learning activities led by trained counselors. This camp gives children and siblings in Nevada ages 7 to 17 who are affected by inherited blood disorders, a chance to gain confidence, learn communication skills and experience joy among their peers. Held in conjunction with Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada, Camp Independent Firefly also serves children and siblings affected by cancer. Thanks to generous contributions and volunteers from the community, the camp is offered at no charge to families.

Camp Independent Firefly would not be possible without passionate donors and sponsors. The Nevada Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation kindly ask the community to get involved by donating to the camp or sponsoring a child to attend this year. Information about how to give the gift of confidence, belonging, and joy to a child affected by a blood disorder can be found at https://hfnv.org/get-involved/give.html

The Nevada Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation works year round to provide a camp experience that is safe, fun and educational. Because every child at camp will be affected by bleeding disorders or cancer in some way, they can easily feel accepted and part of a group. The supportive environment at camp becomes a perfect place to learn skills to navigate living with a major medical condition.
