Walker Furniture’s 20th Annual “Home for the Holidays” Program
Now through Dec. 1
HELP of Southern Nevada reminds members of the community that know of a local family in need of new furniture to submit a letter to Walker Furniture’s “Home for the Holidays” program before the Dec. 1 deadline. Now in its 20th year, the “Home for the Holidays” program pairs 28 local families with new furniture in time for the holiday season.  HELP of Southern Nevada contributes their services to the program by using expertly trained staff to identify which nominated families display the most genuine need for the furnishings.

Anyone with a family or individual in mind should submit their story to company president, Larry Alterwitz for consideration. Furniture deliveries will begin on Dec. 13.


97.1 The Point Turkey-Thon
Nov. 21 to 23
Each Thanksgiving, HELP of Southern Nevada teams up with 97.1 The Point and 8 News Now to provide more than 1,200 families with a Thanksgiving meal. Donations of frozen turkeys and fixings will be accepted from Nov. 21 to 23 at three Smith’s Food & Drug Store locations: 7130 N. Durango Drive on Thursday, Nov. 21 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.; 10616 S. Eastern Avenue on Friday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and 9851 W. Charleston Boulevard on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those wishing to donate money online can do so by visiting and writing “Thanksgiving” in the subject line on the donation page. A family of four can be fed with just $35.


Holiday Closures

HELP of Southern Nevada’s offices on East Flamingo Rd. will be closed intermittently as the holidays approach. Upcoming closures are Nov. 28; Dec. 2; Dec. 4; Dec. 24 to Jan. 6. Normal office hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday will resume on Monday, Jan. 6. 15th Annual 98.5 KLUC Chet Buchanan & The Morning Zoo Toy Drive
Dec. 5 to 16
Now in its 15th year, Chet Buchanan & The Morning Zoo will host a toy drive at 6226 W. Sahara Avenue with Chet living on the 30-foot scaffolding throughout the entire drive. After the drive, HELP of Southern Nevada will distribute the toys to more than 3,000 families in need.


Volunteers are needed Wednesday through Sunday evenings during the drive, with each shift running from midnight to 6 a.m. Those interested in volunteering or in need of more information should contact Joan Lima at

Volunteers are needed to assist clients with their applications for holiday programs at HELP of Southern Nevada’s main campus (1640 E. Flamingo) to ensure that all areas of the form are completed. $10 on the 10th Donor Program
Become a recurring donor with HELP of Southern Nevada’s $10 on the 10th, a program that encourages Southern Nevada residents to help make a difference in their community by donating $10 on the 10th of every month. Round It Up At Yard House
Support HELP of Southern Nevada by visiting Yard House at Town Square Las Vegas all year long and participating in Round It Up America®, a program that gives diners around the country the opportunity to make a difference in their communities by donating pocket change to local nonprofits. Each check at Yard House at Town Square Las Vegas contains a line where patrons can donate to HELP of Southern Nevada by simply rounding up their purchases to the nearest dollar. While the individual donations may be nominal, their collective sum is powerful in assisting HELP of Southern Nevada serve the community through its various programs.


Winder Farms Grocery Home Delivery
Sign up for Winder Farms Grocery Home Delivery and the grocer will donate $25 to HELP of Southern Nevada as well as give each registrant a $25 Winder Farms credit. Las Vegas Review-Journal Gives
Donate $10 to HELP of Southern Nevada by signing up for a new, pre-paid subscription for the Las Vegas Review-Journal through the RJ Gives program.
