Sarah Tiana has been in the standup scene in Los Angeles since 2003. Originally from Calhoun, GA, Tiana’s act emphasizes the ups and downs of a Southern childhood while peppering in her opinions of dating and sports…or the sport of dating. Her breakout reoccurring performance as Carmen on Reno 911!’s seventh season continued to build buzz around the comedian. Date: Friday, May 25

Artist: A Silent Film

Time: 10 p.m.

Cost: $12 in advance; $15 day of show

Description: Acclaimed Oxford, England quartet A Silent Film recently announced the release of their sophomore album Sand & Snow. Set for a May 22, 2012 release, this exciting eleven-song collection continues to deliver the expansive pop rock that caught the attention of countless fans on the band’s debut album A City That Sleeps (2008).

Recorded in various studios in Arizona, Texas and London; there is a Beat Poetry-esque meter to Sand & Snow. Like a Brit-pop score to Jack Kerouac’s On The Road; the narrative flow coupled with propulsive bass lines and swooning symphonic melodies that dart in and out to punctuate the melodicism, is a snapshot of the creativity inspired by the band’s move from the UK. “In a way it feels like our story started when we got on a plane and came to America. We felt like it was somehow ready for us and we had something to offer.”

Sand & Snow documents this romance and self-discovery from a band with proven songwriting chops, and showcases a freshly confident depth in the songwriting.
