REBELS OPEN NCAA PRELIMS THURSDAY
The UNLV track & field team will have a total of six student-athletes competing in a combined seven events at the NCAA West Preliminaries at Texas A&M’s E.B. Cushing Stadium. The Rebels will open the second day of competition on Thursday at 4 p.m. PT with the shot put, while the 100m hurdles will take place at the same time.
Krishna Jayasankar will get things started in the shot put for the Scarlet & Gray. The junior is 38th in the West Region and 70th in the nation with a mark of 15.87m (52′ 1″).
Jaydea Carter will run in the 100m hurdles, where her time of 13.38 is tied for 31st in the West Region and tied for 74th in the nation.
Kennedi Porter will compete in the 100m (11.24) and 200m (22.95) and 5 p.m. PT and 6:45 p.m. PT, respectively. She posted season-best marks at the Mountain West Championships and her 100m time ranks 20th in the West Region and tied for 36th in the nation, while her 200m time sits 18th in the West Region and tied for 32nd in the nation.
Jayasankar will open the final day of competition in the discus throw at 11 a.m. PT where her season-best mark of 52.20m (171′ 3″) held at the MW Outdoor Championships sits 45th in the West Region and 75th in the nation. The field portion for the Rebels will conclude with Grace Cunningham in the high jump at 1:30 p.m. PT. The senior is tied at 29th in the West Region and tied at 42nd in the nation with a height of 1.79m (5′ 10.5″).
Carter and Porter will also represent the Scarlet & Gray Saturday in the 4x100m relay, which the duo along with Sadia Green and Jayda Bushay will take to the track Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. PT.
The four-day meet, May 28-31, will serve as the first and second rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Each individual event will have 48 participants, while the relays will consist of 24 teams, with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
