After competing in the Mt. SAC Relays meet last weekend in Walnut, Calif., the UNLV track & field team will travel the opposite direction in the upcoming weekend for the Arizona Desert Heat Classic. The meet will be hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz., returning for the second time this season on Saturday, April 27.

The Scarlet & Gray are set with 18 student-athletes with accepted entries into the meet along with three different relays. 11 of those competitors will be in track events with seven being part of the field events, 10 athletes in total set for two individual events each. Among those with a pair of events are Delaysia Allen and Jaydea Carter, both competing in the 100m hurdles while Carter is set for the 400m hurdles and Allen opts for the 100m dash. Kennedi Porter, Shakeira Bowra and AnnaKay Maitland are each set for a 100m and 200m event combo heading into the Desert Heat Classic. The distance crew will send three student-athletes across two events, Jaida Lyles and Isabella Schrader each running in the 800m and 1500m events.

The field events will feature a pair student-athletes with two events through the weekend, Roxene Simpson and Krishna Jayasankar aiming to follow-up a strong last weekend with an even better upcoming meet. The duo will throw in the discus and shot put events, the Rebels entering competitors in the high jump (Grace Cunningham, Erin Thompson), triple jump (Camryn Harris, Mackenzie Okonta) and javelin (Emili Osula Liis).

UNLV’s performance at the Mt. SAC Relays meet last weekend featured several noteworthy results, Simpson (second) and Jayasankar (third) both breaking into the program’s top-five all-time performances in the shot put. A handful of other personal-best results appeared in the track events, Kennedi Porter and AnnaKay Maitland setting new best times in the women’s 100m. The team’s 4x100m relay also tacked on a season-best mark in the event, tying their top time at 44.29.

The one-day meet on Saturday, April 27 will first feature Rebels at 2:30 p.m. PT with the women’s discus, the final field event for UNLV taking place at 7 p.m. with the women’s triple jump. Running events will start at 5:10 p.m. PT with the 100m hurdles, competing until the meet’s final women’s event at around 9:45 p.m. with the 4x400m relays.
