The UNLV men’s basketball team (19-7, 8-5 MW), winner of three straight games and five of its last six, will head back out on the road and play at San Diego State (14-10, 6-7) on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. at Viejas Arena.
The Runnin’ Rebels, who won at then-No. 23 UNR (86-78) on Feb. 7 then won home games against Wyoming (85-70, Feb. 10) and Air Force (81-73, Wednesday), are in third place in the Mountain West. Their only loss over their last six games was at Boise State by two in overtime. The win in Reno was UNLV’s first over a ranked opponent since 2015, snapped the Wolf Pack’s 16-game home win streak and knocked them out of first place in the Mountain West at the time.
UNLV has won three straight Mountain West games for the first time since 2016 and five of six in conference play for the first time since 2014.
UNLV is sixth in the nation in scoring (85.8 ppg), seventh in field-goal percentage (50.6), 10th in rebounding (40.88 rpg) and 30th in assists per game (16.7). Additionally, the Runnin’ Rebels are No. 1 in the nation in free-throw attempts (686). Individually, Brandon McCoy and Shakur Juiston rank in the top 22 in the country in rebounding. McCoy is 18th (10.2 rpg), while Juiston is 22nd (10.0). UNLV is the only team in the nation with two top-22 rebounders. McCoy ranks 11th in double-doubles with 14, while Juiston is 28th with 11. Senior guard Jordan Johnson is 24th in the nation in assists with 5.9 apg. UNLV leads the Mountain West in scoring, field-goal percentage, field-goal percentage defense, rebounding, blocks and assists.
