After opening Mountain West play Wednesday with a thrilling 81-80 double-overtime win at Fresno State, the UNLV men’s basketball team will resume non-conference action on Saturday, Dec. 7, by traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah, to face former Mountain West rival BYU at 1 p.m. MT/12 p.m. PT in a neutral-site game at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

Forty percent of UNLV’s games have gone into overtime this season (4 of 10) with Wednesday’s win being the first Runnin’ Rebel overtime victory this year. UNLV (4-6) opened the 2019-20 season with an 86-71 win over Purdue Fort Wayne then dropped three straight games vs. Power 5 conference teams (vs. Kansas State in OT, at Cal in OT and at UCLA). UNLV has now won two of its last three contests.

Junior guard Amauri Hardy leads four Runnin’ Rebels averaging in double-figure scoring with 17.7 points per game (4th in MW), while junior forward Mbacke Diong is the team’s leading rebounder with 10.1 per contest (2nd in MW, 25th in nation). UNLV is under new leadership this year in head coach T.J. Otzelberger.

BYU (6-4) also has a first-year coach in Mark Pope. The Cougars have also won two of their last three games, but are coming off a 102-95 overtime loss at Utah on Wednesday. BYU has four players averaging in double figures, including Yoeli Childs, who just regained eligibility and scored 29 on Wednesday in his season debut.

Saturday’s game will be televised by BYUtv with Dave McCann and Blaine Fowler calling the action. Jon Sandler, former Runnin’ Rebel Curtis Terry and Steve Cofield (sideline reporter) will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 in Las Vegas and online via the UNLVGameday App and TuneIn.
