The UNLV men’s basketball team will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for its first Mountain West road game of the season as it will face New Mexico on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 9 p.m. MT/8 p.m. PT at The Pit.
UNLV (8-6, 2-0) is off to its first 2-0 start in conference play in 13 years after home wins against Colorado State last Wednesday (78-76) and Wyoming on Saturday (68-56). Against the Cowboys, freshman forward Joel Ntambwe scored a career-high 31 points and tallied 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.
UNLV has been led in scoring this year by senior guard Kris Clyburn, who is averaging 12.5 ppg. Ntambwe is close behind at 12.4 ppg, while sophomore guard Amauri Hardy is third at 11.7 ppg. Senior forward Shakur Juiston, who will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, averaged 10.8 ppg and 8.8 rpg over eight games played. Among active players, sophomore forward Mbacke Diong is the team’s leading rebounder (6.6 rpg) and he also leads the team in blocks (second in the MW) with 1.9 bpg. Senior guard Noah Robotham is the Runnin’ Rebel assist leader (3.6 apg).
New Mexico (8-6, 2-0) is coming off an 85-58 upset of then-No. 6/5 UNR on Saturday at The Pit. The Lobos opened MW play 65-58 victory at Air Force last Wednesday. UNM is led in scoring by Anthony Mathis’ 16.4 ppg. Mathis earned this week’s MW Player of the Week award.
Tuesday’s game will be televised on ESPN2 with Sam Farber and Richie Schueler calling the action.
