24-Hour Donation Center to Accommodate End of Year Giving Rush

Sahara Location Open Overnight on Thursday, December 27

In a 24-hour city like Las Vegas, it only makes sense to have a 24-hour Goodwill Donation Center that makes it easy to donate and receive a tax-deductible receipt before 2012 officially comes to a close.

Goodwill of Southern Nevada will keep its Drive-Thru Donation Center at the Sahara Goodwill Store (4580 W. Sahara, at Decatur) open all-day and all-night starting on Thursday, December 27 at 7am thru Friday, December 28 at 9pm.

That’s a full 38-hours of non-stop donating to help accommodate even the most hectic of schedules. Donating is especially convenient at the Drive-Thru Donation Center, as donors wishing to drop off gently-used items don’t even have to get out of their cars.

As a special thank you, everyone who donates at the Sahara location during the extended hours will receive a $5 off coupon to shop at the Sahara Goodwill store.

The last week in December is historically Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s busiest week of the year, with more than 20,000 people expected to drop off gently used goods at Goodwill donation centers by December 31, 2012.

Goodwill of Southern Nevada offers more than forty donation sites across the Las Vegas Valley. Each Goodwill donation location is staffed by a donation ambassador who can provide receipts to donors and also validate itemized lists, when presented. For general donation guidelines, please visit www.irs.gov.

The sales of donated gently used goods in Goodwill retail stores and on-line support Goodwill’s mission of providing job training, education and job placement services to people in Southern Nevada.

Thanks to the community’s support, Goodwill of Southern Nevada has helped place more than 1,750 people into jobs so far in 2012.

Dine at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza to support HELP of Southern Nevada

HELP of Southern Nevada is teaming up with Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza for a special event benefitting the Las Vegas-based nonprofit.  On Thursday, July 19, Sammy’s on West Sahara will donate 20% of all proceeds from every patron who brings in the designated flyer (below and attached).  The offer is only valid at the Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza location on 6500 W. Sahara Ave. during the times of 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 6 – 9 p.m.  As an added bonus for supporting HELP of Southern Nevada, Sammy’s will give a free gift bag to those who participate.

Given that many of HELP of Southern Nevada’s programs operate entirely off donations, this is a fantastic way for locals to help support one of our community’s most vital nonprofit organizations.  HELP of Southern Nevada assists over 100,000 unduplicated clients every year and promotions like this – with the generosity of places like Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza – make a very measurable and positive difference in all programming and activations.  Please feel free to share and post this flyer.  It can also be accessed and printed off at www.helpsonv.org.

Hash House A Go Go celebrates National Pancake Week by teaming up with Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars, Joey Fatone and George Wallace

Hash House A Go Go celebrates National Pancake Week by teaming up with Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars, Joey Fatone and
George Wallace
Celebrities create special pancakes for favorite charities

Hash House A Go Go is working with Rick Harrison from HISTORY Channel’s Pawn Stars, N’Sync member and current host of The Price Is Right Live! at Bally’s Joey Fatone and Flamingo headliner and comedian George Wallace to make National Pancake Week bigger and better than ever. Each celebrity is designing their own pancake to be listed on the Hash House A Go Go menu from Feb. 19 – 25.

The pancake that sells the most at the end of the week will be declared the winner with $1 from each of the three celebrity pancakes sold to be donated to the charity of the celebrity’s choice. Rick Harrison has chosen Child Focus, Joey Fatone has chosen the Fatone Family Foundation and George Wallace has chosen Smile Train.

Harrison’s sweet tooth gets the best of him with the combination of chocolate and peanut butter for his pancake while Fatone’s pancake features Reese’s pieces designed with the pieces as eyes and chopped bacon as the mouth of a smiley face. Meanwhile, Wallace keeps it exciting with his Hot Cake Special pancake, coated with strawberry frosted flakes served with a hint of cinnamon and maple syrup with bacon on the side. Any one of these is the perfect delight for any breakfast lover.

Visit any of the four Hash House A Go Go locations in town and try these pancakes to decide which one will go on to be the winner.

El Cortez Hotel & Casino Introduces Vintage Dining and Cocktail Menus in Honor of 70th Anniversary

El Cortez Hotel & Casino Introduces Vintage

Dining and Cocktail Menus in Honor of 70th Anniversary

El Cortez Hotel & Casino continues the celebration of its storied past by introducing vintage dining and cocktail menus in honor of its 70th anniversary.

Throughout 70 years, El Cortez has gone through several menu overhauls at its dining establishments. To fuel guests’ excitement for the anniversary, the historic hotel-casino has decided to dust off some of Las Vegas’ old recipe books and reintroduce a few classic favorites. The dishes selected were some of the premier dining options featured at the town’s best restaurants in years past, including dishes from Sultan’s Table at the Dunes, Delmonico’s at the Riviera, The House of Lords at the Sahara, La Vie en Rose at the Desert Inn and Saver Room at the Aladdin.

The cocktail menu will celebrate the history of mixology by educating guests on the origins of classic cocktails while offering a chance for them to enjoy their favorites. The menu will include cocktails such as the side car, which originated in the 1920s during World War I; the mint julep, which originated in the 1700s and is one of the country’s oldest cocktails; the blood and sand, a drink from the 1930 premiere of a Rudolph Valentino film; and the aviation, a drink created in the 1910s by the head bartender at the Hotel Wallick in New York.

After spending a few weeks to once again perfect the iconic dishes, El Cortez’s chefs are proud to present the vintage dining menu:

Appetizers

Oysters Rockefeller
Fresh shucked Kusshi oysters baked with fresh spinach, hollandaise sauce and Pernod

Escargot a’la bourguignon
Petit-Gris Escargot with garlic butter

Salads

Hearts of palm
Tender hearts of palm with lemon vinaigrette

Asparagus salad
Chilled asparagus, caper pimento vinaigrette

Entrees

Tournedos of beef Rossini
Twin Filet Mignonettes, pan fried in butter, topped with pate Foie Gras and Madeira demi-glace

Chicken Kiev
Herb butter filled boneless breast of chicken, panko crusted and deep-fried

Desserts

Strawberries Romanoff
Fresh hulled strawberries macerated in Cointreau and orange juice, served with fresh whipped cream and ice cream

Peach Melba
Peach halves over vanilla ice cream topped with fresh raspberry puree
