 The UNLV softball team will honor its four graduating seniors this weekend as New Mexico will come to town for the final regular-season series beginning on Thursday, May 1 and concluding on Saturday May 3.

 

SCHEDULE:

Thursday, May 1 – New Mexico at UNLV at 6:00 p.m. PT

Friday, May 2 – New Mexico at UNLV at 3:00 p.m. PT

Saturday, May 3 – New Mexico at UNLV at 12:00 p.m. PT

 

UNLV vs. NEW MEXICO

All-time vs. NEW MEXICO: 63-34

Streak: Won 1

Last meeting: Last season, UNLV collected the three-game series against New Mexico 2-1. UNLV took the first game 7-5, New Mexico claimed game two 2-1 (8), and the Rebels closed out with an 8-2 victory in the series finale.

SERIES PROMOTIONS: Fans in attendance will receive a 2025 UNLV softball schedule poster all weekend and a red Rebels bucket hat, while supplies last. Following each game, fans in attendance have the opportunity to get autographs from their favorite Rebels. Additionally, on Saturday following the conclusion of the game, UNLV will hold its senior ceremony for seniors: Karmyna Becerra, Ariana Martinez, Sofia Morales and Destinee Noury.

 

TICKETS: Single-game tickets are $6 in advance and at the game $10 for adults and $8 for seniors, faculty and staff. Kids under 12, Nevada High School students with their high school ID, UNLV students are free at all home contests.

 

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD: The UNLV softball team earned a 2-1 series win against Utah State. The Rebels shut out the Aggies in game one, 5-0. In game two, Utah State run-ruled UNLV 12-4 in five innings, but in game three, the Rebels bounced back and run-ruled the Aggies, 10-2, in five innings. For the weekend, Jesse Farrell batted a combined .667 (6-for-9) with one double and two home runs. She also had five RBI and scored six runs. For the weekend, Karmyna Becerra led the Rebels at the plate hitting a combined .727 (8-for-11). She had two doubles, a triple and a home run to go with five RBI and scored two runs. In Yanina Sherwood’s two appearances, she went 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA including two complete games, one of seven innings and one of five innings. She moved to an overall record of 11-7. Sherwood held the Aggies to a .233 batting average.

 

SCOUTING NEW MEXICO: New Mexico heads into the final weekend of MW play  with a 20-28-1 overall record and a 5-14 MW record. The Lobos are coming off a three-game series loss to UNR. Ashley Archuleta leads the New Mexico offense with a .418 batting average and a .624 slugging percentage. Jessica DeLeon is the RBI leader for the Lobos with 33, while Miracle McKenzie is the home run leader with five. In the circle, McKenna Guest leads the staff with a 3.31 ERA and a 14-10 overall record. Guest has made 34 appearances and pitched 135.1 innings.

 

WEEKLY HONORS: Pitcher Yanina Sherwood was named MW Freshman of the Week on April 28. The 5-foot-11 freshman pitcher went 2-0 for the Rebels in the circle against Utah State en route to a 2-1 series win against the Aggies. The Mill Creek, Washington native had an ERA of 1.17 through 12.0 innings pitched and struck out eight Aggies through the weekend. Sherwood only allowed two earned runs, which happened in the series final run-rule victory. She held the Aggies to only a .233 batting average.

 

QUEEN OF RBI: Senior infielder Ariana Martinez became the new program leader for career RBI with 199 and counting. As she headed into the UCSB Tournament, she was only three RBI away from the top and in just the second game of opening day of the tournament, she hit a two-run home run against Creighton to take over as the career RBI leader.

 

350 CAREER WINS: Head coach Kristie Fox collected her 350th career win on Feb. 14, 2025 in the 4-3 victory over Idaho State in the opening game of the UNLV Rebel Classic. Fox currently has an overall head coaching record of 368-276 and an UNLV head coach recording of 234-139. Fox collected her 200th win at the helm of the Rebels last season on March 28, 2024 in the 7-3 victory over Utah State.

 

REBELS’ SQUAD: UNLV returns 6 letterwinners, including three position starters. All-Mountain West and NFCA All-West selection Ariana Martinez returns along with NFCA All-West recipient Jesse Farrell and Sofia Morales. Charelle Aki, Kailani Olivas and Bri Willams also return to the Rebels this season. 

UNLV welcomes 15 newcomers to the squad which include: freshmen Gwyn Burnett, Jazmine Chavez, Mantha Hatzenbeller, Kamryn Messick and Yanina Sherwood; sophomores: Ellie Bostedt, Bri Hamilton, Brooke Pisciotta and Sage Vandemark; juniors: Maddie Scott, Diamond Sefe, Maggie Vasa and Amelia Weber; senior Karmyna Becerra and graduate student Destinee Noury.

The Rebels bring back three of the top-five hitters from last season which includes Martinez, Farrell and Morales. Martinez led the squad with a .396 batting average, and posted team-highs in doubles (15), RBI (51), slugging percentage (.708) and on-base percentage (503). Farrell hit .359 with 12 doubles and a team-high 11 home runs. Farrell also had 46 RBI and the second-highest slugging percentage with a .683. Morales started all 50 games last season and batted a .350 with three doubles and two triples. Morales also had 19 RBI.
