LA ROCQUE’S CONTRACT EXTENDED THROUGH 2026-27
UNLV women’s basketball head coach agrees to new five-year deal
UNLV head women’s basketball coach Lindy La Rocque has signed a new five-year contract, President Keith E. Whitfield and Director of Athletics Erick Harper announced Thursday.
La Rocque, who guided the Rebels to the NCAA women’s basketball tournament for the first time in 20 seasons, agreed to terms through the 2026-27 season.
“Coach La Rocque has been tremendously successful developing a program that has overwhelmed expectations both on the court and in the classroom,” Harper said. “Her commitment to her hometown and the university cannot be overstated. We’re incredibly excited to have her continue to build on the foundation laid over the past two years.”
The Las Vegas native and Durango High School graduate was named the Mountain West Coach of the Year in her rookie season. The past year, she guided the Lady Rebels to a sweep of the conference’s regular-season and tournament championships and their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2002.
“To enjoy the success we’ve been able to achieve, there had to be great buy-in and participation from the players, staff and the community,” La Rocque said. “I’m very thankful to President Whitfield and Erick Harper for their support and recognizing our commitment to raising the bar for women’s basketball at UNLV and in Las Vegas.”
Under La Rocque, the Lady Rebels achieved their best overall record (26-7) since the 1990 season. The team ranked in the top 25 of all Division I teams in scoring offense, field-goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage while setting team records for 3-pointers made and free-throw percentage.
The Lady Rebels also set a program-record 3.44 team GPA during the fall 2021 semester and placed six undergraduates on the Dean’s List.
La Rocque is 41-16 as a head coach and her .719 winning percentage is the highest by a UNLV head coach since the women’s basketball program began participating as an NCAA Division I member.
