Get ready to lace up for a cause and join Shoes for Scholars this Sept. 20 at Town Square Las Vegas (6605 S. Las Vegas Blvd.) for its Inaugural Smarts’N Strides 5K Run & Walk. Community members will join together to support the nonprofit in its mission to educate and empower middle school students at Title 1 and low-income schools through incentive programs that lead to students being awarded with new, brand-name shoes.

“We’re beyond excited for our upcoming walk as community members, students and parents can all join and walk to help raise vital funds for our students,” said May Kane, founder of Shoes for Scholars. “It’s amazing what a new pair of shoes can do and with each stride we take, we move closer to ensuring every student begins their journey with dignity and confidence. Every step helps to put a brand new pair of shoes on a student ready to chase their dream.”

The inaugural Smarts’N Strides 5K Run & Walk is presented by The 702 Firm Injury Attorneys. It’s at one’s own speed, whether running, walking or even walking the dog, and is a great way to take a step towards the finish line while raising crucial funds for the organization. Whether a participant, donor or just there to cheer, all are welcome to come and support for a fun morning at Town Square. Participants are encouraged to sign up early and start their own team or join one already established and start fundraising. The run/walk is two laps around Town Square. All participants are encouraged to register in advance by Sept. 7:

  • 7:00 AM: Registration and Family Resource Fair
    • Includes orange juice, candied bacon and a $10 dining card courtesy of Lazy Dog Town Square

  • 10:00 AM: Event Ends – all participants are encouraged to dine at or get to-go from Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar Town Square after and mention Shoes for Scholars and the restaurant will donate 15% back to the nonprofit.
