THREE REBELS COLLECT ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS
Three UNLV softball players have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Jesse Farrell, Sofia Morales and Amelia Weber were recognized for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot, which first-, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 17
Farrell, a sophomore biological science major, earned All-Mountain West second team honors this season after she batted a .313 which includes 46 hits, 12 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 28 RBI. Farrell split time behind the dish and at shortstop for the Rebels, having played and started all 49 games. She had a .585 slugging percentage, which was second on the squad. Farrell finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.70 and is on the UNLV’s Dean’s List.
Morales, a senior business major, earned her third straight CSC Academic All-District honor. She batted a .290 for the Rebels which included 45 hits, three doubles, a triple and 16 RBI. Morales led the squad this season in sacrifice bunts and was 1-for-1 on stolen bases. She played and started all 49 games this season for the Scarlet & Gray. Morales closed out her senior campaign with a cumulative GPA of 3.80 and is on the UNLV’s Dean’s List.
Weber, a junior business marketing major, made 32 appearances for UNLV this season and started 19 games in the circle. Weber pitched three complete games this season during her 111.2 innings pitched. She had eight victories for the Rebels and struck out 55 hitters. Weber closed out the year with a 3.66 cumulative GPA and is on the UNLV’s Dean’s List.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have a 3.5 minimum grade point average, have participated in at least 90 percent of the season’s events or must start in at least 66 percent of the season’s events and have at least a sophomore standing both academically and athletically. Pitchers must have at least 35.0 innings pitched this season or 17 appearances.
