LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com)The UNLV men’s basketball team (12-3, 1-1 MW), winner of six of its last seven games, will be looking for its second straight Mountain West victory as it hosts Utah State (9-7, 2-1 MW) on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
It will be Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Night with live music and activities outside of the arena pregame as well as family fun games on the concourse. Plus, the first 300 fans through the door will receive a voucher for a free popcorn.
The Family Fun Pack is available for Saturday: four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for only $56 (a savings of $40). Single-game tickets and mini plans may be purchased at UNLVtickets.com or (702) 739-FANS.
The Runnin’ Rebels are coming off an 82-76 overtime victory at San Jose State on Wednesday night. It was just their third true road game of the season and first in league play. UNLV went 11-2 during non-conference play this season with their only two losses coming in overtime – at Northern Iowa and vs. Arizona (now ranked No. 14/16) at home.
The Runnin’ Rebels are seventh in the country in scoring (89.4 ppg), ninth in rebounding (42.27 rpg) and 10th in field-goal percentage (51.2). Individually, junior forward Shakur Juiston and freshman forward Brandon McCoy rank in the top 16 in the country in rebounding. Juiston is 13th with 10.4 rpg, while McCoy is 16th with 10.3 rpg. UNLV is the only team in the nation with two top-16 rebounders. McCoy ranks fifth in double-doubles with 10, while Juiston is 24th with seven. Senior guard Jordan Johnson is 18th in the nation in assists with 6.5 apg.
The 2017-18 season marks the second under head coach Marvin Menzies for the Runnin’ Rebels. Menzies and his staff brought in a recruiting class for this year that has been ranked as high as No. 12 in the country and features McCoy, who was a McDonald’s High School All-American, and Juiston, last year’s National Junior College Player of the Year. The Runnin’ Rebels also returned their leading scorer from last season – senior guard Jovan Mooring. Four Runnin’ Rebels are averaging double figures, led by McCoy’s 19.0 ppg, which ranks first in the Mountain West.
Saturday’s game will be broadcast by AT&T SportsNet with Conor McGahey and Dave Bollwinkel calling the action. Jon Sandler and former Runnin’ Rebel Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online via the UNLV Gameday App and TuneIn (link at UNLVRebels.com).
