THE MOB MUSEUM ANNOUNCES AUGUST EVENTS
The Mob Museum, The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces its roster of public programs for August.
“Mob on the Run” Screening and Discussion, Monday, Aug. 6, 6 p.m. Produced in 1987, this documentary reveals how organized crime played a key role in the rise and expansion of Las Vegas. Following the screening, Museum Senior Director of Content Geoff Schumacher will moderate a discussion between two individuals who lived through Mob-era Las Vegas. The documentary’s producer, Bob Stoldal, and KLAS Investigative Journalist George Knapp, will share their own compelling personal stories about the Mob in Las Vegas.
Science of Crime Program – Toxicology, Saturday, Aug. 11, 2 to 3 p.m. in Forensic science is a complex discipline encompassing more than a dozen distinct fields. Each month, The Mob Museum and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Forensic Laboratory will present an in-depth look at disciplines and sciences that encompass forensic analysis. This Science of Crime series program explores how Toxicology Detail provides alcohol and toxicological analysis, as well as the management of the breath alcohol program in Southern Nevada. Forensic Scientist Nicole Van Aken will host the presentation.
Community Safety Forum – Child/Youth Safety, Sunday, Aug. 19, 2 to 3 p.m. Each month, the Museum partners with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to host a free Community Safety Forum that addresses pertinent issues in Southern Nevada. August’s forum focuses on what parents and members of the community can do to keep children safe. Attendees will learn tips and gain resources on how to ensure children are kept unharmed in their homes, on their way to school and in public spaces. These events are sponsored by NV Energy and include free Museum admission to guests after the forum. Live streaming of this presentation will also be available on the Museum’s website.
