THE MOB MUSEUM, THE UNDERGROUND SPEAKEASY AND DISTILLERY ANNOUNCE NEW EVENTS, OFFERS IN SEPTEMBER 

 

 The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces its roster of September happenings, including a rare meet and greet opportunity with “Inside the Life” podcast hosts and undercover agents Giovanni Rocco and Dutch McAlpin. Additionally, the Museum will host “Voices of Change: Escaping the Gang Culture.” This September in The Underground, guests can sip and savor a specialty cocktail and bourbon flight in celebration of National Bourbon Heritage Month.

Inside the Life: Meet and Greet with Giovanni Rocco and Dutch McAlpin
Date: Friday, Sept. 19
Time: Discussion and Q&A from 1 to 2:15 p.m.; meet & greet and book signing from 2:15 to 3 p.m.
Location: Inside the historic courtroom.
Cost: Free with Museum admission. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.

Join “Inside the Life” hosts Giovanni Rocco and Dutch McAlpin for an exclusive live event, including candid conversation, behind-the-scenes insights and raw, unfiltered storytelling. The voices behind The Mob Museum’s award-winning podcast will reflect on Season 2, sharing the real-life experiences and relationships that shaped their most powerful interviews and investigative moments. They’ll be joined by Scott “Big Country” Payne, a retired FBI agent and former undercover operative featured in the forthcoming third season, who brings his own gripping experiences to the conversation. Whether you’re a longtime listener or new to the series, this is your chance to meet the people behind the mic, explore the realities behind the headlines and capture the moment with photos and conversation that go far beyond the studio.
Speakers:

  • ​​​Elite deep cover agent Giovanni Rocco was responsible for taking down the American Mob organization now recognized as “The Real Sopranos.” During his decades-long career as an undercover for the federal government, he successfully infiltrated outlaw motorcycle gangs, domestic and international terror organizations and the Mafia.
  • ​​​Often working in extremely dangerous, life-threatening scenarios, Dutch McAlpin left his more than 20-year career in law enforcement with an endless number of stories. Working his way from a beat cop in the Midwest to an undercover task force agent for numerous federal agencies, McAlpin infiltrated outlaw motorcycle gangs, domestic terrorist organizations, weapons trafficking networks, Latin American cartels, international human trafficking rings and even the Mafia, sometimes operating with three different undercover identities at the same time.

Voices of Change: Escaping the Gang Culture
Date: Thursday, Sept. 25
Time: 7 to 8 p.m. followed by a book signing.

Description: Two men from opposite sides of gang culture come together for an unfiltered conversation on the realities of life in the streets, the fight for redemption and the power of transformation. Former Los Angeles gang member turned celebrated poet Luis J. Rodriguez sits down beside gang specialist and retired Department of Homeland Services Lieutenant Gabe Morales to share their personal stories — one of escape through art and the other through decades of mentoring at-risk youth. In this special event, Rodriguez and Morales will dive into the systemic challenges and resilience it takes to overcome the grip of gang culture. A book signing will follow the program.​
Speakers:

  • Gabe Morales spent more than 30 years in criminal justice, retiring as a lieutenant with ICE after a career that included service in the Marine Corps, corrections roles in California and Washington and more than 20 years in inmate classification and rehabilitation at King County Jail. He is also a longtime instructor, founder of the International Latino Gang Investigators Association, author of numerous books and articles on crime and gang violence and a mentor to at-risk youth.
  • Luis Rodriguez, a former gang member now 32 years sober, has spent more than 50 years helping troubled youth while building a career as the award-winning author of 17 books, including the bestselling memoir “Always Running.”
  • Geoff Schumacher, vice president of exhibits and programs at The Mob Museum.

National Bourbon Heritage Month: American Influence Flight

Description: Guests are invited to celebrate National Bourbon Heritage Month with The Underground’s American Influence flight comprising four distinctive bourbons. Bourbon is an American spirit. Influenced by immigrant groups’ cultural traditions, experience the complexity and diversity of this corn-based whiskey known for its sweet and oaky flavor notes.

Description: Although the bourbon industry faced major challenges during Prohibition, it rebounded by the 1950s and by 1963 it had become the best-selling spirit in the United States. The Underground celebrates National Bourbon Heritage Month by replacing vodka with bourbon for a classic Kentucky Mule. The Underground’s Kentucky Mule is crafted with bourbon, ginger beer, lime and mint.

The Underground is an immersive Prohibition history exhibition featuring a speakeasy, distillery and private VIP room in the basement of The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement. Artifacts from the 1920s and 1930s tell the intriguing story of the Prohibition era, which not only saw a proliferation of bootlegged booze and the meteoric growth of organized crime outfits but also had a profound, lasting impact on society, specifically making way for modern cocktail culture. A seasonal cocktail menu gives guests the opportunity to try contemporary takes on classic Prohibition-era cocktails.
