After the UNLV baseball Team’s (13-9, 3-5 MW) thrilling extra-inning win on Friday night against UNR (9-11, 5-3 MW), the Rebels took the field up north once again on Saturday for the second game of the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union. The contest featured a high volume of scoring with six different home runs hit between the two problems, but the Scarlet & Gray couldn’t come out on top in the 9-4 loss.

The Rebels struggled to contain UNR early, their opponent posting five runs within the game’s first three innings of play. UNLV wouldn’t get on the board until the top of the fourth inning, Isaac Rodriguez kicking off the scoring with a ground ball to push Rylan Charles across home plate. The Scarlet & Gray wouldn’t waste any more time, Kade Higgins pushing his second home run of the year in the next at bat to bring UNR’s lead down to three.

After UNR replied with a solo home run of their own in the fourth, Bailey Seeger slapped the game’s third-straight home run into the left side of the field for UNLV’s third run of the contest. The team would spark a third-straight inning with a homer in the top of the sixth inning, Austin Kryszczuk blasting his fifth home run of the season to bring the gap within two runs. Their opponent would soon extend the lead though, UNR scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Kade Higgins ended the contest as the only hitter in the Rebel lineup with more than one hit in the contest, the junior aiming for another ninth-inning rally with a double into left-center field. Reese Lueck entered the contest on the mound in the ninth inning to perform his third-straight scoreless outing, facing five batters and striking out one during his time at the helm.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
– UNLV’s three home runs in the contest is the fourth time this season that the team has hit three or more in a game, the 11th game this season with at least one.
– The Scarlet & Gray’s pitching staff hasn’t allowed many free trips to first base as of late, only allowing two walks in a single contest for the third game in a row.
