HUYNH MAKES REBEL HISTORY AT U.S. WOMEN’S AMATEUR
The rising sophomore becomes the first UNLV golfer to reach the event’s quarterfinals
UNLV women’s golf rising sophomore Thienna Huynh made program history this week when she became the first Rebel to advance to the U.S. Women’s Amateur quarterfinals at Bel-Air Country Club.
With the feat, Huynh receives an exemption into the 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
After advancing to match play as the No. 53 seed, Huynh bested the No. 12 seed in Oregon’s Kiara Romero in Wednesday’s round of 64. She then went on to claim victories Thursday over No. 21 seed Lauren Kim from Texas in the round of 32 and 37th-seeded Taylor Riley from LSU in the round of 16.
Huynh’s run didn’t come to a close until Friday’s quarterfinals when she went up against 45th-seeded Latanna Stone from LSU, who is a six-year veteran of the event.
Originally from Lilburn, Georgia, Huynh adds to her list of success in USGA events that also includes the 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship title.
