LADY REBELS ON THE ROAD AT OKLAHOMA

UNLV and the Sooners will tip-off on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 12 p.m. PT/2 p.m. CT at the Lloyd Noble Center

-he UNLV women’s basketball will play the next three games on the road with the first stop at Oklahoma on Saturday, Dec. 9. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. PT/2 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+ with a subscription required. Both squads are currently receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches’ and Associated Press Top 25 Polls.

 

ABOUT THE OPPONENT: The Lady Rebels and Sooners have only met twice, prior to Saturday’s game, with the teams splitting the series 1-1 so far. UNLV dropped the most recent meeting, 95-85, in Las Vegas back in 1980. The Lady Rebels collected a 71-51 victory in the first meeting between the two squads in 1979 in Norman. The Sooners have five different players in double-digits and are led by Aubrey Joens who is averaging 13.5 points per game.

 

HALFWAY THROUGH NON-CONFERENCE LADY REBEL LEADERS

Through eight games, three Lady Rebels are currently averaging double-figures in scoring. Desi-Rae Young leads the squad with 17.4 points per game. Kiara Jackson is averaging 13.5 points per game and Alyssa Durazo-Frescas is averaging 13.0 points per game, respectively. Young also leads the team in rebounds (9.9 per game) and Jackson is the assist leader (5.5 per game).

 

LAST TIME ON THE COURT: The UNLV women’s basketball team dominated Arizona 72-53 on December 2 at the Thomas & Mack Center, marking its first Power 5 opponent win under head Coach Lindy La Rocque. Kiara Jackson and Desi-Rae Young each scored a team-high 21 points. Jackson’s 21 points tied her career-high and she shot 9-for-16 from the field. Jackson led the squad in assists with seven. Young was 8-for-16 from the field and brought down nine rebounds. Alyssa Brown was the squad’s leading rebounder with 10 and contributed two steals and a block.

 

SQUAD UP: UNLV returns nine of the 12 players from its 2023 championship squad including three starters and Mountain West Sixth Player of the Year, Kiara Jackson and MVP of the Mountain West Championship, Desi-Rae Young. New to the squad this season are four freshmen, forward McKinna Brackens, point guard Amarachi Kimpson, guard Macy Spencer and forward Meadow Roland, and junior transfer Macie James, a forward from Oklahoma State.

 

LAST SEASON: The Lady Rebels are coming off another highly successful season that culminated with the second consecutive Mountain West Regular season title and Tournament title. UNLV received its second straight automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Rebels had one of their best program records since the 1989-90 season, finishing the regular season with a 28-2 record. UNLV’s undefeated MW season (18-0) was also its best since the 1992-92 season. Head Coach Lindy La Rocque was named Mountain West Coach of the Year for the second time in just three seasons. Four Lady Rebels earned All-Mountain West accolades last season: Kiara Jackson (Sixth Player of the Year), Essence Booker (All-Mountain West team), Justice Ethridge (All-Mountain West team & All-Defensive team), Desi-Rae Young (All-Mountain West team & All-Defensive team).
