Las Vegas Natural History Museum Celebrates Seasonal Traditions
Across the Globe with A December to Remember Holiday Exhibition
and Event Series Launching Friday, December 1
Special showcase reception invites families to preview annual collection of unique cultural exhibits and performances by local community groups and civic organizations
The Las Vegas Natural History Museum invites locals to embark on a cultural holiday journey at its annual museum-curated, community-created exhibition, A December to Remember.
The exhibition, which immerses museum visitors in the rich tapestry of global holiday traditions and celebrations, launches Friday, December 1 with a special opening showcase reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Open to the public, the family-friendly evening will feature culturally diverse exhibits on display with Q&A sessions from the creators, sneak previews of upcoming workshops, a silent auction of holiday trees, musical entertainment from El Dorado High School, and a special performance by local nonprofit, Broadway in the Hood. Tickets to the reception start at $15 and can be purchased online via the ‘tickets’ button and at the door. Museum members can attend for free by reserving their tickets online.
“A December to Remember holds a profound significance for us at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum,” explained Kate Porter, the museum’s co-executive director. “Adding the showcase reception not only expresses our sincere gratitude to our supporters and contributors but gives the community the opportunity to see what’s in store for the month. It sets the stage for an unforgettable celebration that showcases seasonal traditions from around the world.”
A December to Remember features a unique collection of cultural exhibits, workshops, and performances by notable community groups and civic organizations. During the six-week event, visitors can learn about holiday customs from various ethnic and religious cultures including African American, Hawaiian, Filipino, Japanese, El Salvadoran, Scandinavian, Cuban, Mexican, Muslim, Italian, Christianity, Judaism and Wiccan.
Workshops and performances will be held in various exhibit halls throughout the month. Community group partners include Ellis Rice, Kika Shibata and the Japanese Kizuna Society, Inner Circle Sanctuary, the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas, the Castro Family, UNLV, and more. A December to Remember exhibition is included with Museum Admission or Membership, and will be on display until Sunday, January 7, 2024. Located north of Cashman Center at 900 Las Vegas Blvd N., the museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas). General admission tickets are priced at $14 per adult and $7 for children ages 3-11 and can be purchased online at www.lvnhm.org or at the door.
